The WCAL This Year

Sacred Heart Cathedral is updating their athletic site. Seamus has the schedule on Twitter. The first game vs. Riordan is a non-league game at.

Also, SHC has an athletic app at the Google Play Store and at the Apple Store under "SHC Athletics".

Not sure what youve seen live, but notable omissions from roster posted. Branch-Haynes, Hester, and Dowling. I get Branch-Haynes already signed with Arizona and risking injury. Ivy on roster probably hoping for one last chance to get noticed. Reagans not sure if hes even at SH anymore but hes another notable not on the roster. Probably would not be a primary RB with Mixon likely the starter.

Where have you seen a roster?

Maxpreps. Doesnt look official but other than obviously Riordan no school really has someone that makes a concerted effort to enter in accurate info/rosters on MP.
True enough. If I post a question, I seldom get a timely response. I still want to know if the Riordan game will allow fans. The scrimmage didn't. This week's game will be on YouTube at SHC TV.

SH will be pretty solid in the middle of the field on defense. Mixon and Upressa at LB and Sanders at S are promising. Mixon's size is quite mind-boggling because SH doesnt normally have a guy like that at LB. It's kind of like when SH had Kevin Greene. Offenses will surely run plays away from Mixon.

Iā€™m hoping Dowling, Branch-Haynes and Hester return for the Irish this season. It wasn't pretty last year with these same players. I'm sure the Irish seniors want to finish strong. Looking forward to seeing Mixon on varsity. Not sure if fans will be allowed this weekend, most likely only parents. Last year's turnout for the opening of the Mayer Family Field was awesome!

It looks like this year in addition to Sacred Heart Riordan and Mitty are also not fielding JV teams. Is participation down at those schools? Maybe a varsity and Frosh/Soph is in the future for WCAL.

SH has had no JV for at least the last two seasons. Yes, not enough bodies to fill 3 teams. Get used to it. Lots of schools will follow with the decline of kids not wanting to risk their health. You'll see more participation in Lacrosse.

Cutting out JV teams for some will only strengthen those that retain them. The rich (so to speak) will simply get richer. That means, Serra, St. Francis, St. Ignatius, Valley Christian and Bellarmine.

All indications had Riordan fielding a JV team this year with the bolstering of its coaching staff for all levels. The short season with 2 games against SHC did not seem to make sense to field a JV team in this COVID year IMO. We shall see next Fall.

IC, is the SHCTV broadcast confirmed? Usually YouTube-Crusader Nation does the home streams. I don't see any mention of the game anywhere.

For winners, I'll go with these:

Central Catholic
Valley Christian
Sacred Heart Cathedral
St. Ignatius
St. Francis

Really interested to see Bellarmine tonight. Hard to remember a program undergoing a facelift like this in one off-season. Now we get to see how it plays out on the field

Reading Stephens' Chronicle article, appears SH will have Branch-Haynes, Hester, Ivy, and Dowling. Extremely proud of them to finish out their senior years together playing for BM and Stanfel.

It's not a surprise that Serra is strong again. That was predicted. But what's eye-opening this spring is that several freshmen (they will be sophomores in the fall) are playing key roles already on the varsity. They did so Friday night against Valley Christian, Mann and Bey in particular.

I'm watching the streaming. It's horrible. I expected much better from BAOSN.

But seriously...
SHC wasnt able to execute
SHC had questionable play calling 1st half in Redbone
Riordan came with defensive intensity
Riordanā€™s offense gelled the n 2nd half

If both teams improve Riordan vs. SHC ll, shouldnā€™t alter outcome?

Hats off to Mr. Reardan and Board of Directorā€™s...their field looks GOODšŸ™Œ

Riordanā€™s line on both sides were the difference in the game, particularly in the 2nd half. Pretty good sized linemen made up of juniors and sophs. Jr. Atu Kefu was a major disprupter at FB and DL with a forced fumble for a pick up TD by Aden Jackson and a pick 6.
