Possible the Head Coach is a germaphobe. Thats acceptable.
What the heck is going on with SHC basketball? The Jv's look just ok but the frosh A and B are basically winless.......The girls and boys team have not attracted any buzz recently. The boys varsity has no one over 6'5, even Valley Christian has a couple?....I think they really have to put the word out next year, we are interested in basketball players...SI and Riordan are attracting a lot more talent recently, makes you wonder.

Have you seen who the lower level coaches from Riordan and SI are? Having a challenging non-league schedule and playing in marquee tournaments also helps attract kids. SHC varsity has been competitive during league. Backs are up against the wall for making the postseason. I still wouldn’t bet against this gritty team.

What's the read on Bellarmine? Started off strong with the win over Sacred Heart Prep, but have struggled in the WCAL

COVID and injuries have plagued the Bells entering early league play. Not sure if they have fielded a full team at all this season...

VC's Jacob Bannarbie missed last Saturday's game against St. Francis. Second game he's missed this season after sitting against SHC following the Campolindo loss on MLK day. Warriors trot out the tallest roster in the WCAL with some good talent, surprised of their record so far.

2 Games played Mon Night 1/31
  • St. Francis 78 @ Valley Christian 54
    • Jacob Bannarbie did not play
  • SHC 64 @ Riordan 80
    • King Wilhite drops 41 points on the Irish. Irish’s Jerry Mixon torches the Crusaders with 25pts.

He missed tonight's game as well.

King-Njhsanni Wilhite scored 41 points for Archbishop Riordan, tonight. As Riordan beat Sacred Heart Cathedral, 80 - 64.

The 41 points is tied for 3rd most points scored by Riordan player and is the most points scored in a League Game.

In 1989, Dwayne Fontana scored 41 points, which at that time was the school record, vs. Balboa in the first round game of the the 1st James Logan Shootout Tournament. Riordan beat Balboa 89 - 76. Riordan won the tournament by beating Bishop O'Dowd.

In 2013, Chiefy Ugbaja scored 41 points vs. Bullard in the Consolation Semi Final in the Gridley Invitational Basketball Tournament (GIBT), Riordan beat Bullard 86 - 84. Riordan beat Salesian in the Consolation Championship game.

In 1969, Kevin Restani scored 38 points, which tied the school record at that time, vs. Archbishop Mitty in a League Game. This is tied for the 5th most points scored in Riordan History.

Loved those Dwayne Fontana teams. Good history their. Thx

Nothing is wrong. Just kids playing trying to have fun. We just happen to play in the toughest league with some real top heavy programs. This is the outlook you should have and who knows one of these days you might happen to have a state football championship appear at your feet. Go Irish!

The whole basketball program needs a complete revamp on both sides, from top to bottom. Needless to say, they made a bad hire for the men's coach. Irish hit paydirt with the women's hire of Demetrius Jackson.

Ok, I hear you...I'm just saying we haven't attracted any bigs in the last 5 years? Mixon played well with the bigger boys but he is an anomaly.

6'5 and up guys are nice to have. Its not absolutely necessary. If you have 5-7 6'0-6'2 guys that have high basketball IQ, unselfish, play hard on defense, dont always need the ball, always moving, sets screens, etc Im pretty sure that team will win more than lose. Mixon is one of those dudes.

Isn’t that what the Irish have this season?

Yes....Need a little help rebounding...small guys are working harder to do the same things..It can be done tho, but bigger teams just wear out the small teams. If SHC even had one more BIG or small dude that can rebound consistently with Mixon and McCarty and take up space it sure would help what they need to do.. Its been quite awhile there has been anyone tall for SHC that has been truly impactful I would argue in the last 6 years? Granted they still managed to get some wins but just saying it is weird they haven't gotten anyone over 6'5.

The last player they had like that was Oscar Cheng. He was more tall than physically imposing. Amin Olgesby was their last real physical guy and he was only 6'3.

Like I said, height is nice to have, but better to have guys that play well together and move and play really hard on defense. Theres alot of standing around and waiting for Spears to save them isnt the best way to win a game.

He didn't stay...he would have helped that team too...Ended up back at HI...but came back to play at CCSF.

SI scored 52 points to SFHS 31 in the first half of that game — incredibly great shooting half, not sure what 3 pt percent was but they made 9, had to be very high. Starters for both teams were done for the night by the last few minutes of the 3rd q after SF didn’t make a quick run. So not a great game and no fun from the SF side, but one of the better team-wide three point shooting displays I can remember seeing lately.

Riordan 48 @ SI 51
Wildcats snap 6 game loss streak to the Crusaders and even the season series. Missed. FTs and several open and putback shots did not fall. A physical and defensive battle of 2 contending City rivals. SI’s Sean Quanico with a solid all around game.

It was a 3 point game with under a minute when that no-call out of bounds occurred. Film don't lie. Great game that was close throughout going against a senior laden Wildcat team. Riordan's lineup had 3 jrs, a soph and freshman for most of the game. The just announced CCS Open Pool play tournament is going to be a battle!

Real key adjustment down the stretch, SI immediately doubled KJW as soon as he touched the ball. This after he had back to back pull up Js from the free throw line. SI's starting 5 is as good as it gets. All 5 can score and passes very well. Not dependent on just 1 player. They might make some noise in NorCal's if they dont get slotted into Open Division.

Saturday Feb 5th's Roundup
  • SI 57 @ Mitty 70
    • Rested Mitty methodically takes down the 'Cats.
  • Valley Christian 48 @ Serra 60
    • Padres w/o its big man Keyhani. VC without its big man for the season. No problem for Serra.
  • St. Francis 66 @ SHC 58
    • SHC's postseason hopes are denied
  • Bellarmine 42 @ Riordan 49
    • Riordan guts out the win playing its 5th game in 8 days and going 4-1. Riordan D remains the constant and the Crusaders go 10 deep tonight. Players other than one named King step up. Big game in San Jose as Riordan looks to delay Mitty's WCAL title clinch Wednesday.

Another excellent summation. Nice work. Again.

Wednesday Feb 9th Results
  • Riordan 47 @ Mitty 50
    • Congrats to Mitty - WCAL Champs! Mitty storms back after trailing up to double digits for the win. Missed Crusader FTs allowed the Monarchs to make the final push for the title clinching victory.
  • Serra 47 @ St. Francis 52
    • Another WCAL comeback victory as the Lancers erase its HT deficit for the win.
  • Bellarmine 42 @ St. Ignatius 56
    • Wildcats with the double digit win on Senior night in the Sunset.
  • Valley Christian 75 @ Sacred Heart Cathedral 72
    • Warriors pick up the road win against the Irish.

It looks like all the games were exciting, close games, except for the SI vs Bells game. Although Mitty is the team to beat, I think the CCS Open will be the most competitive it has ever been. Mitty, SHP, Riordan and SI all have a good shot at winning it all. Serra was my dark horse until Keyhani got hurt-Just don't see them winning many games with their best player out and only real size.

We are always looking for more officials. Come join us! Unfortunately you won't get to use instant replay and slow motion in games to give you a second look...
