Tuesday's WCAL Final Games - Riordan Repeats as Undefeated WCAL Champs! ☔️

HMMM.....I think Riordan would like Buchanan to take down St. Joe. Central Section has teams that will show us how if they deserve #1 over Riordan or North Coast Champion, or the Sac-Joaquin Champion. it comes down to how you finish towards the meeting to determine seedings. Of course, Pro flic Prep will not enjoy this run. Then after the Section Commissioner's meet at the end of the month. We will know. I say Riordan has a chance at Number 1, no doubt.

I like our Team, we added new players at the new year and have Gavin Sykes!! Who stops Him, not even Tou can!! Watchout!! MC Strong is gelling at the right time. GAVIN SYKES IS 6' 5 240 STRONG

Congrats to Riordan on back to back undefeated WCAL campaigns. Smallest margin of victory through the 14 games was 25. Just simply dominating.

Excellent run through a tough league!!
Riordan Crusaders Great job!!

But this year, it's not just talent. Their defense is suffocating!! On ball, off ball denial, shot blockers, defensive rotations. The other team can hardly even breathe....

The only question left is who is WCAL POY? Is it going to be Rencher? or will it be as WCAL as it gets and they will do the shared POY with Rencher and Hilman?

Only problem with all those WCAL blowouts is Riordan hasn't really been tested for a while so they might get tight down the stretch in the NorCal Open against DLS, Salesian, MC or St Joes. I think they have the firepower to hang with any of these teams but it'll be tough in the NorCal Open. It's going to be a tough ticket for a number of these games so I kinda wished they played the semis / finals at larger neutral sites but that's no longer the case. Imagine the ticket demand for a DLS vs Riordan final for example - it would be unreal.

Salesian and St. Joseph blew through their league schedule as well. CCS Open Championship is @ Santa Clara University.

I was referring to NorCal Open not CCS - DLS is one example of a tougher league in the EBAL than WCAL or Salesian but Salesian schedules a tough non-conference schedule - tougher than Riordan this year I would wager.

Whoever gets the NorCal #1 seed will have homecourt advantage throughout. CIF may be placing St. Joe’s in the North this year so will be interesting who gets the #1 seed. If St. Joe’s is placed in SoCal, Riordan should get the #1 seed if it wins out through the CCS Open. The Crusader Forum would be a huge homecourt advantage for Riordan. Sellout last night with many turned away - and that included additional floor seating and a SRO Student section on the home bench baseline. The WCAL was pretty competitive if you were not playing Riordan. Their out of area losses were not blowouts to the other top teams in NorCal. But that was back in December.

Imagine if Carr decided to stay instead of flip flopping.
Carr might have made them better offensively, but the starting trio of Hillman, Rencher and Bush is better defensively + plus more continuity from last year. During this WCAL season and upcoming CCS, Carr wouldn't have made a difference. It would have probably taken longer to adjust playing with Carr versus Bush running point. But we'll see come Norcal playoffs.

Riordan has been so good throughout the season from players 1-10 that it was rare for them to even play in a close game which an "x" factor is if the coach can draw up plays. Suffice to say Curtin hasnt had to do that very much this season because he's got the whole team to play press defense for 32 minutes and only a couple teams have kept it close. They are on a collision course for either Salesian or St. Joseph.

Rencher. His attitudes/presense sets the example for the entire team and hopefully program
Agreed. I think it should be all Rencher. Been a real leader of such a talented group. Honestly not even sure why Sensley last year was not like how Rencher was this year. Can argue Sensley has more upside than Rencher.

I have been staying away from this site for a while and here is why. Not one person mentions Dr. Peter Pollat. He is a defensive genius and just what Riordan needed. Give the veteran who has a state title at Riordan his damn props. He has been very vital in everyone who says the defense is suffocating. If defense wins titles and Riordan wins the state make sure to mention Coach Pollat. One of the best gentlemen one could ever meet.

Okay... He's not listed on the staff at MaxPreps, of course that doesn't mean much...

Never heard the name before. I probably would have if I lived in the Westbay.

He was with Rich Forslund at Burlingame, Half Moon Bay, and Lowell and Riordan. He is now back with Riordan and has transformed the defense to what it is. He is also the uncle to the great Roxie Bernstein who used to call many Cal games with the legend Bill Walton. My point is the man deserves alot of credit and I hope he can incorporate what he knows against Salesian and the So Cal power houses. Many give credit to head coaches, the support staff is never heard of in most cases.

You are the Guru!!

Coach Pollat is on the Riordan bench. Pretty much says it all. Coach Curtin played under Coach Forslund and Pollat.
That is Dr/Coach Pollard,…from the Forslund-Riordan State Title team staff.

Maybe that is the most AMAZING ASPECT to Coach Curtin is his assembly of assistant coaches, can I say, “players want to play for Coach Curtin and coaches want to coach with Coach Curtin”. It’s not God Plan, it’s TheR’s way because,…”Not like Us”

To me Coach Curtin channeling Kendrick,…”I see OLD banners”😱😱😱

I noticed him on the bench yesterday and I was asking myself who is that guy because he used to sit on the Burlingame bench when my son was playing in the PAL years ago. Didn't know he is a defensive guru. Thanks for the info...learned something today.

How would you know he is responsible for the improved defense? Who told you this?

Because defense is about heart and effort, not necessarily about skill. Of course, a good game plan is beneficial. But it appears curtain was lacking in this part of the game the past few seasons. I think Chuck Rap and Brian Carson at SARAH are a perfect example of exactly what tenacious defense will get you

In closing good luck to poor MA. The other coach Carson has his hands full.

@LaMission,

You often ask question that make the most sense over & over,.. But please know that @HZwizard has NO INSIGHT to the Synergy & Energy of TheR and the SUCCESS of this year or Any Undefeated Seasons listed by @ARHS Stats ( now you see why the question was asked)

To quote a person VERY CLOSE to the coaching staff from last night,…Steve Richie is:

#NotLikeUs
#NotOneOfUs
#NotMissed
#DontGoAway/StayAway,…

***But let me ask Or Poise a Probing Question that answers many enquiring minds. “Do people think of Tex Winters or Peter Pollat when they think of a successful offense or the coach who Had The INSIGHT to implemented it”? To me Coach Curtin assembled a pretty successful staff from “Top to Bottom” that is worthy of flowers to acknowledge his leadership.

Ans:
a) Phil Jackson
b) Joey Curtin
c) Both a & b
d) None of the above
e) @HZWIZARD, @iamgearyblvd or @Irish_Cheers aka (SHC brain trust-insights)😱😱😱🤫🫣🤬

I don’t believe this HSWizz wannabe has talked to any coach or any player on the Riordan team. He just spits out bs and hopes it sticks. Did this Wizz guy really play and coach at sacred heart?

Welcome to the board LaMission. You remind me of another poster, but I can’t think who that is? 🤔
