Looking like Jayden Machado won the quarterback competition for Elk Grove in beating out incumbant starter Tyler Vander Waal. Heard through a friend last night that Vander Waal, a junior, is transferring out of Elk Grove.

Can anyone confirm?

Saw this blurb in SacBee under:
Sacramento-area prep football season opens with plenty of memorable moments

Over and out – No. 4 Elk Grove lost a quarterback last week when promising junior Tyler Vander Waal left the program. He said he isn’t sure where he will enroll next, adding, “I wish nothing but the best for that program, players and coaches.” Jayden Machado emerged as the starter and was solid in the Thundering Herd’s 38-7 rout of visiting Reno, throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Reinwald.

Kind of wonder how his athletically motivated transfer will be handled. Some sections he will forfeit a year and he might lose this and next season in some sections. This article could be used against him playing this and next season.

Seems athletically motivated to me. I think he is a good quarterback, but doesn't really fit what Elk Grove does (similar situation Carta-Samuels had with Bellarmine). Hopefully this doesn't derail his eligibility.

Well he quit because he was not named starter. Entitlement and the worst of parental involvement at its finest. Not fitting into the system is an absurd excuse as they shopped programs before high school and already spent 2 years there so they knew the system well. Machado shut his mouth and went to work to legitimately win the starting job. We should be talking about the emergence of Machado and not the underachieving Vander Waal.
