I think MA could be in the top 3 -5 teams in CCS this year.
My Menlo Atherton Overview
Menlo-Atherton is stacked again with lots of talent (6 players with college offers, 4 D1 and more to come by season end). Even with the loss of QB Miles Conrad, and three top linemen, the bears will have among the most talent of any team in the CCS in both speed and a big physicality. Biggest replacement will be QB position with Jack Alexander, Jr, 5-10, 165, expected to take over the helm of the offense. Alexander while not the prototype QB is mobile and an accurate passer that sees the field well and throws well to spots most anywhere on the field with short windows. Not a strong armed QB but he will be able to get it downfield to his tall and athletic WRs. Bears have an opportunity to improve at the QB position over last season and reason the are believed to improve over last season including major talent on both sides of the ball. They will be a physical smashmouth team on both sides of the ball with pretty good playmakers (including Soph WR Troy Franklin who already has offers and will be a National recruit). They are expected to win the PAL Bay and go far in the playoffs if they perform as expected.
KEY PLAYERS:
- Noa Ngalu, Sr, 6-2, 285 DT/G/RB, committed to WA;
- Daniel Heimuli, Sr, ILB, 6-2,220, 4 star LB with 23+ offers including Alabama;
- Troy Franklin, Soph, WR/CB, 6-3, 170, super athletic with offers already from Oregon State, Arizona State, Hawaii, Utah, San Jose State and will be one of the highest recruited skill players to come out of CCS by the time he is a senior.
- Justin Anderson, Jr, 6-0, 170, CB/WR, 3 star recruit with offers from Iowa State, Washington State and Utah;
Others to watch (from film I viewed):
- De’Marshaun Payton, Sr, RB, 5-8, 160, 879 yards rushing 10 TDs;
- Moala Tautuaa, Sr, DT/C, 6-2, 315;
- Tyreke Jackson, Jr, 5-7, 155, RB/SS, shifty and quick runner;
- Atonio Tau, Jr, LB/RB, 5-10, 220, load on both sides of ball;
- Uate Uhila, Jr, G, 6-1, 260, physical lineman;
- Malik Johnson, Sr, SS, 6-1, 205, transferred from St Francis;
- Ben Tuipulotu, Sr, FS/WR, 6-0, 175, transfer from Kings Academy that is very good on both sides of the ball;
- David Tafuna, Sr, DE/C/G, 6-1, 265, very good on defense, quick and physical;
- Jack Alexander, Jr, QB, 5-10, 165, accurate passer and relatively mobile. Not big arm but throws to spots well especially slants and post. He is impressive as far as getting the ball in small windows and he is also mobile.
Results versus Bellarmine: Last season: Varsity lost last season 21-16 and Menlo Atherton JV won 42-0 against Bellarmine
Conclusion:
Defense: Menlo Atherton defense looks like it is going to be very strong and stout. Not sure Bells will have much success on ground. Not sure transfers from St Francis and Kings academy will have to sit out or play, but both are strong DBs, but line and LBs will be very strong. DBs will be strong as well even without the transfers. Lots of depth on this team. Defense could be special next season.
Offense will have some big play makers, including D1 recruits WRs Franklin and Anderson, and Tuipulotu and RB Payton. Tau is a load as a RB and they also use 280 lbs Ngalu at RB on short yardage. QB will be able to get the ball to very dangerous receivers and is mobile and they can pound the ball in smash mouth style on the ground. Menlo Atherton has potential to really have a strong season and could be one of their most talented teams ever. Bells will be the underdog in this game.
