Nor Cal Final Four Teams

Serra
Sacred Heart Cathedral
Riordan
Mitty
Bellarmine

League Champ Saint Francis only team that lost in Open. Show me a league in California with 5 teams still playing? Top to bottom hands down best League in Nor Cal.

Pretty down year though in terms of a supreme team but St. Francis was legit. Mitty got really lucky winning that game last night. Nobody thought Whitney would be that good.
WCAL has always been a top league in norcal if not state. A lot of dog fights.

Which of these teams would have had the best chance of beating any Open Division Team.

Agree no great team, but top to bottom show me a better league? Had Sabastian Much not transferred and a healthy Kone, Mitty would have been interesting this post season.

That is a good call Queso. I thought Much was a borderline Pac12 type guy. Not sure he has the foot speed but the skills at 6"8 were there. Any news on how he did or where he's going? Would be a great WCC type player.
You gotta figure they were an open team contender with those guys. I watched them with Kone nearly beat MC up at Jesuit. I think they lost by 2.

You saw our best team SF lose to Modesto Christian by 3. Not the point. Show me a league that's better in NorCal top to bottom? You can't!

Not questioning strength of your league this year, was merely wondering if any other team would have been competitive in Open. I think Serra qualified, but was not put in over Sheldon who lost in the SJS semi finals to Modesto Christian.

Played for JSerra in Orange County same league as Mater Dei I believe

Id put Serra next.

BTW unless you're nationally ranked why would you want to play in NorCal open? SoCal depending on ranking services usually has at least 2 nationally ranked teams going to Open.
Id put Serra next.
Funny you mention Sheldon as both Serra and Sheldon knocked out MC. Sheldon looks impressive.

Btw Serra Blasted Ayala a highly ranked SoCal team in preseason. I expect Serra will be NorCal champs in division this year.

nope cheese. I'm eating a late breakfast. A little screwed up because daylight savings. No cheese in the omlet though

It helps to have only 1 team selected to go to the Open, and have teams from a lot of different divisions. The WCAL definitely has a lot of very competitive teams and has to be the best league from top to bottom. But most other good leagues have teams in only 1 or 2 divisions and even if they were all better than the WCAL teams (hypothetical) they wouldn't be able to have 5 teams in the NorCal semis. It is impressive to have all these teams still playing, but the WCAL has a unique set up and they had a lot of successful teams in different divisions long before the Open was taking away the top teams from those divisions.

There is a culture of competition that goes back generations in the WCAL. For some families that is part of the attraction. It's impressive when public schools like half moon bay or san ramon valley achieve similar excellence. It's a virtuous cycle.

Had San Bruno's Eddie Stansberry not been asked to remove himself from the venerable academic institution on West 20th Avenue in San Mateo a couple of years ago, his presence in the Serra lineup this season would have been HUGE. Going small would have been absolutely lethal. Ah, yes, what might have been.

Correct. The WCAL is unique in NorCal. Nothing else like it north of the Grapevine.

Never mind Serra...He made Riordans' team successful and rallied every player on the team to play better and win, the mark of true great leader.

He could have gone anywhere and probably could have played his soph year if he didn't choose 175 Phelan Ave. Learned a valuable life lesson and now has brothers for life.
