Yes. CCS baseball is the one sport where public schools have annually succeeded. First round games are most vunerable, but true, this year WCAL took a hit like no other. St. Francis has done a good job of securing depth throughout the program, but they too have succumbed in early rounds. The old saying, you are as good as the opponents pitcher.
Yes, Cheers not a good time to disregard your rival, especially when your alma mater baseball program in the worst it has ever been. However, they did have a frosh class that many talked about for last couple years (on par with SI's Class of 13), and they DID exceed this reputation with a quality season. Question is will they secure enough depth to compliment this group over next two years. The class may be a shooting star.
I think finances, off season ball also play a part in success of baseball programs. A lot of South Bay campus can compete with infrastructure, and if your a baseball player who cannot gain admitance to a WCAL school (for a variety of reasons), with enough support players, baseball is one sport that can compete.
Baseball is a beautiful game, you cannot run out the clock like football and basketball.
