Week 14 Scoreboard

Watched a little bit of the Clovis West and San Joaquin Memorial game. Display of mixed football acumen.

Game was tied 14-14 for a long while, with neither team really gaining the advantage over the other, other than the ball being mostly in the CW side of the field.

Eagles get a stop, but the punt puts them inside their own 10. They run to the right side where the SJM defenders stop the runner... but don't bring him down. Instead, they sort of swing him backwards. This is where you sort of have to fight your instinct to stay up. The runner didn't... he regained his balance 7 yards deep into the end zone with two defenders closing on him. He's swiftly brought down for a safety. Had he fallen after being thrown back, it would have been a 'forward progress' call. Instead, it's 16-14, SJM.

Panthers get the ball on the ensuing kickoff and drive for a score (after a SJM player showing some smarts by taking a drop at about the 7 to take more time off the clock). Here's where it gets even more crazy... SJM scores a TD to go up 22-14, but the player celebrates with a ball spin and a pose. This draws a flag... Panthers now have to try a tough PAT from the 35 to make it a 2-score game? No, because a CW player walks up to the ball and kicks it out of bounds, drawing an offsetting penalty. SJM gets to try the PAT from the 10 and makes it. 23-14 late in the 4th.

Same CW player gets a second unsportsmanlike call and is ejected. What was once a tight defensive battle ends with SJM winning 30-20.

From Max Preps:

DLS 30
Pitt 23
Final

Folsom 62
CC 27
Final

OR 24
Tur 0
Final

Rocklin 28
Manteca 34
Final

GB 21
DO 16
Final

DLS does what DLS usually does. Play better as the season goes a long.

Folsom annihilated a pretty decent CC. Looks like they are playing better as the season goes on too.

OR shutting out a hot Turlock squad is an impressive accomplishment.

Manteca scored their lowest point total of the season yet still won.

GB flipped the script on DO.

What a tremendous Friday night it was!

Yeah there was some great games. Amazing really.

To me Casey Taylor deserves an amazing amount of credit at OR. This team was 3-7 last year and is 9-3 now playing for SJS d1 champ. The same OR Team the sac bee barely had in the top 20 preseason.

Rancho going for the win against 11-0 campo and coming up 42-41 short.
Newman kicking FG 35 sec left lifting them over 10-1 Acalanes.

We’ve seen for 20 years now that CT is a helluva coach. Arguably the best in the SAC area.
So the level of his team’s success shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Agree TR. For me it happened a little sooner than I thought it would. The future looks bright in EDH. Solid underclassman group at all levels with lots of returning kid next year.
OR has there hands full with Folsom but who doesn’t right? Both teams are playing really well but Folsom looked especially dominant last night. Mack was unstoppable hitting multiple Folsom WR all game.
Your Thunder had a great season btw. One of my favorite teams to watch this year. Not the most talented but they bring it hard. I had them in finals against GB.

Casey also has the groceries. One of the things I noticed as soon as I got down to field level with OR was how big they were across the whole team. They’re a stout bunch of athletes. No freaks but just big solid good athletes. That kind of stout size will wear you down over the course of a game not to mention make it hard early as well.

GB is similar. They’re big across the line and in their backers ranks and even in their secondary. I’m used to watching DO give up size to nearly every team they play but OR and GB were really noticeable.

I hope that serves them well in the next round. I’m ready for a new league champion and think GB’s defense is going to give Manteca some challenges.

Man some fun/heartbreaking football last night. Congrats to Manteca for wearing down the thunder. Also congrats to Folsom, Granite Bay, Oak Ridge and Grant. Time to put my SFL cap on and pull for GB, the winner of Folsom v. OR. They got the job done, superb season for the SFL.

Ridge, agree. A lot of these OR kids are 6”3-6”5 on line and 250-280 range. There LBS are 6”2-6”3 210 range. Edwards who I think will absolutely blow up recruiting wise is 6”7 225 and he’s a true Soph. Not these marble valley Folsom holdbacks. (If you know you know).

OR returns a ton of kids and I’m willing to bet a QB will move into the area and want to play for this program. It’s only piece missing next year.

When I watched OR squeak by GB i said that’s the best 1-4 team I’ve ever seen. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them beat a very good Manteca team.

Don’t get me started on holdbacks!

GB is not a great offensive team but they get off the ball and create holes to run in and are clever enough to create some passing opportunities. I saw more than once, kids get wide open and GB QB missed it, but a couple times he didn’t. Just enough production to win because the D was going to keep the score low.

I’m still smarting over losing that game last night as there was a chance to win it but that’s high school football. Cheers to GB in the championship they deserve it and hope OR and GB are holding up a banners next weekend.

Marin Catholic looks awful on offense, 2 penalties , a fumble, a snap over the punters head…….MC doesn’t have the patience to run the ball so Del Norte is playing a a soft 335 and letting MC make mistakes

4 offensive penalties and Williams fumbles it on the goaline unbelievable, Marin Catholic is so sloppy

6-0 MC at halftime 5 offensive penalties, 2 fumbles, missed PAT and snapped over the punters head…….luckily their defense is legit, but the offense is pretty weak……MC would get drilled by any elite team easily wouldn’t even be close

MC Charles Williams fumbled the kickoff and the Cook throws a pick 6 to start the half, incredible how poor they are playing

That was closer than I thought it would be.

Yeah 7 fumbles, 3 lost one at the goal line, 1 pick 6, missed PAT, and punt snapped over their head the offense and special teams didn’t show up………..this won’t fly much longer, their defense didn’t allow a point and was dominant

The play that killed DO last night was the GB TD right before halftime. If they don’t score there, it’s 14-10 @ halftime. DO made some good defensive adjustments at halftime and shut out GB in the second half. It’s hard for them to make those adjustments during the game because they have so many players going both ways that the coaches don’t get the chance to talk to them very much.

I had heard there were quite a few sick kids on the team as well. GB provably contended with the same but I’m sure it made a difference in different ways.

I was checking the stream during the game while watching the Serra Salinas game. I missed the turnovers except the goal line one. Didn't realize there were so many turnovers. Score now makes sense.
