If you look at matchups and history of past state bowl games DLS and their run dominant offense does not matchup very well with MD. I understand DLS is undefeated but their 10-7 NCS championship win over Pitt has me thinking MD is gonna blow the doors off of them somewhere in the 56-14 range. My pick for the North Open representative would have to be Folsom with how they’re playing. Their 5 star QB, multiple 4 star receivers and playmakers at every level on defense, would be the north’s best shot. The fact MD and Folsom have never played before makes the game more intriguing also.

This is how I’d pair the Open and top Nor-Cal games.

Open - Folsom vs MD

1AA - DLS vs St. Ignatius

1A - Pittsburg vs Grant

Unfortunately Folsom lost to Serra…. 🤣

Folsom would get blasted by MD that’s a world that program doesn’t live in. DLS while they will lose I’m fairly sure they won’t quit no matter the score. Those kids and that program in Folsom aren’t built that way, they don’t embrace challenges. They need to schedule like a champ to really think they can compete with one.

I have thought De La Salle has played Mater Dei/Bosco reasonably well compared to Serra. A few of these games were 14 point games in the fourth quarter and DLS seems to pull out all the tricks in terms of schemes.

The three week break must be pretty hard though to stay sharp

De la salle hasn't made the open since 2019

The previous 3 years it was serra

And I believe this is de la salle 15 open since it started and they only played mater dei twice.

How are they playing each other every year?

Folsom a great team but they don't have the schedule or wins to be worthy

De la salle played every top team in nor cal but Folsom ( grant, serra, st Francis, st Mary, San Ramon valley, Pitt) and dominated 4 out of 6 and beat all of them.

Folsom needs to prove they can beat teams like servite, orange Lutheran, Santa margarita, j serra, cen10, mission Viejo, sierra canyon before they worthy of md or Bosco

It is what it is

Honestly I've been saying this all along. The Folsom vs MD game would draw more interest due to all the recruits and hype.
Folsom wouldn't beat MD but neither will DLS and right now Folsom is the best team in northern caifornia and would play MD as good as anybody. You guys realize almost all of Folsom starters are scholarship players as well? So they don't have 60 D1 guys but they probably have 20. They lost to Serra so it doesn't matter but I totally get the comment. Either way anybody in the north loses by 35+

The break really helps DLS here to prepare and put in wrinkles. MD the break gives those kids time to relax after winning the the south which many consider the title as it’s much harder to win. These are HS kids and can lose focus pretty easily especially when they are feeling themselves. I think the long break definitely helps DLS.

Stop your crying and be grateful that your team gets to play a extra game against a team similar level to you well DLS sits on the sidelines for 3 weeks and has to play a team that’s has player’s from all over the country.

de la salle is to nor cal what MD is to so cal.
Not even Close…. DLS has lost multiple games recently to Nor Cal Teams, and never has anywhere near the Stockpile D1 of players MD has…. And DLS doesn’t take transfers either…..

Yeah I would say 10-15 years ago I could buy that. Not today. Totally different world. DLS is a very good HS team that is now challenged year in and out by Folsom. The entire Trinity league would basically beat DLS.
MD is to S CAL what IMG Academy is too National Hoops.

Yup probably cen 10 and mission Viejo would probably beat de la salle too

De la salle a great California high school program they beat the best of the best in California at peak

They were never really great out of state, lost twice to don Bosco prep and twice to st Thomas Aquinas in the 2010's. They spilt with bishop Gorman and lost to st Frances academy and also Trinity in Texas

They biggest win out of state was Gorman in 2018 and st John in DC in 2017

Where mater dei beat Bosco 12 times, Gorman 4 times, st Frances 3 times, img and duncanville and many other out of state teams.

Obviously it helps that mater dei recruit all over so cal. They got 6 of the top 35 players in the state in 2025 recruiting

De la salle only has 1. So mater dei who recruit and take transfers is completely different comparison than de la salle.

Mater dei, img, st John Bosco, st Thomas Aquinas, chaminade Madonna, st Frances academy, and Gorman

Can't be compared to anyone else those are football academy

how many sections in a row has DLS won?
You said Nor Cal, Not the NCS…. Yes, the NCS has a problem with DLS but teams have come very close to beating them like SRV last year and PITT this year….

Unlike MD who only SJB has beat or come close to beating since like 2016….

Good point about those publics and maybe even a Lincoln SDG. Just apples and oranges now.
We will never see a run like DLS ever again. Anywhere.

Crazy how Folsom can have 20 D1 kids living in the area, just must be a great place to live. Oh, that's right most travel to get to practice and take online classes.
