I been reading mixed predictions about Vacaville making or not making the playoffs in case of a loss to Wood. The Vacaville Reporter stated that the top two seeds of the MEL go to the playoffs and if Vacaville were to lose they would most likely miss the playoffs being a 5-5 team. So it looks like its "win or go home" for my Bulldogs. The one big concern for me is their passing defense, we've seen it in those last 2mins of the Napa game. Vacaville had totally shut down Napa's running game until they started to pass the ball at the end of that game and that's how they made the comeback, with their passing. Will C. Wood is having one heck of a year in the passing game, that's what I'm worried about and Vacaville has always been known to have trouble stopping pass heavy teams.

Vacaville tough season so far might be one advantage against Wood, they are very well battle tested and looks like Wood had trouble against a physical Napa team. Vacaville needs to come out as physical and defensive as they did against Napa to be able to keep their playoff hopes alive. Looks like we are in for a nice Black and Blue Bowl.

DEFENSE..DEFENSE..DEFENSE!!!
GO VACAVILLE BULLDOGS!!!

First stop their run game, which is pretty good. Second, take away their QBs first read on pass plays and make him go to his 2nd and 3rd options. Napa did it, can Vacaville???

Yes, it seems like Vacaville needs a win to advance. Really excited for this game on Friday. City rivalry featuring teams with different styles.

Well after attending both schools (Wood was Jr, High then and Vacaville was a 1 High School Town). It is very intense indeed. I was hoping Vacaville's win column had more W's. Always going for Vaca High and hoping the best for Wood too. I think Vacaville's D Line wud wear out Wood's O Line. But ya never know with City/League Rival Games. Will Vaca & Wood be in DII Playoffs?

Will Vaca & Wood be in DII Playoffs?

It all depends on if Vacaville wins for both teams to be in the playoffs. Wood wants to beat Vacaville for the first time in 17 or 18 years and in the process knock them out of the playoffs. It's going to be a tough rivalry game.

I would venture to guess Vacaville will try to emulate what Napa did defensively to slow Woods scoring machine. Vacaville will do what Vacaville does on offense and grind the D till they break one. Wood must have been self scouting their Napa game looking to find answers and fix problems. It is the black and blue bowl so no matter who wins I'd imagine both teams will be tapped come sat morning. Wood just has so many threats on offense and dispite points given up leads most stats in SJS on D so they may be able to corral all Vacas horses. Woods line on either side cannot match up to Vacaville in any category, size, strength,or speed but their QB is mobile and dangerous out of the pocket. Vacavilles DBs just can't match up with Wood however they do have a DB leading the INT stat sheet so that could come into play. My prediction is whoever wins the turn over battle will win the game. In a news report the Napa head coach did elude that their lackluster performance vs Vaca was due to not having recovered from the Wood game, that being said maybe Wood is more physical then most people think. The final score will be within 14 points I believe. It should be a good one. Can Wood break the curse of the Bulldog and overcome almost 2 decades of Bulldog beatings? Wood crumbled under the pressure of needing to beat Napa for their first MEL championship will the performance anxiety continue when faced with a "big game"? Only time will tell. Vacaville is on the clock to keep their post season dreams alive. This is a big game for both teams it should be one to remember!

There is NO DOUBTING that this is the biggest game between the two Vacaville High Schools in recent memory. Vacaville is playing for their playoff lives and Wood is playing for playoff seeding. Top it off that both schools are playing for pride and hometown bragging rights. Great week to watch football. I imagine this will truly be standing room only.

Vacaville's D Line will win it in the trenches...will shall see how Wood does...did they learn anything from the Napa Game? Will their O Line want it enough to win it in the trenches? Can Wood's Defense stop Vacaville's Vaunted Wing T Offense? How is Vacaville's secondary...they have played enough teams that run the "Spread Offense." Who wants to be the "Spoiler" of the Black & Blue Game?

Just got here, got very lucky to find a seat, literally standing room only on the Vacaville side Wood still has plenty of seats in their side

Wood has a really fast and good team, hopefully they surprise some teams in the playoffs. I actually saw that Wood played better than Napa, I just don't know what happened to Wood in the game against Napa. Vacaville too didn't play like they did against Napa it seemed like Vacaville players are more into beating Napa than Wood. Congrats to Wood on breaking that 17 year losing streak to Vacaville.

Looks like my bulldogs will be out of the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

I was surprised to see Wood win the line of scrimmage.

They were ready for my Bulldogs, they played the best defensive game of the season. They need to play like that in the playoffs, the speed of their running back and wide receiver is amazing.

The Dogs couldn't get out of their own way well over 100 yards in penalties on top of a gross lack of execution on offense. They did slow the passing machine but had no answer for the outside run, they just could not secure the edge. Most tackles were made by the secondary which is never good. Woods line stepped up on both sides and executed their zone blocking double to backer well. Wood's horses ran like it was race day at the track, Vaca's showed some sporadic life but not enough to keep them in the game. Vacas Wrs were WIDE OPEN several times but the QB struggled to deliver them the ball. All in all Vacas offense was just too one dimensional while Woods offense was balanced and potent. Wood draws an easy first round win with American Canyon who they blew out early in the season. The Dogs must head to the dog house and sit post season out, maybe their hunger will grow in the next 8 months. Wood won't see their first challenge till week 2 of the post season at the earliest.

Can you tell me why Mariposa is playing in the D1-D6 playoffs? Mariposa is the 4th seed from their league with 5 wins and 45 opponent wins while Vacaville has 5 wins and 58 opponent wins? What gives here?

I'm used to this, Vacaville always gets left out when it comes to decision time by commissioner/s. It happened in 2011 and now again, it's like they got reprimanded for playing a tough non-league schedule. What happened to the "unfair/mercy" rule they had in years past. Del Oro was put in the playoffs in past years when having a 4-6 or 5-5 record, I think even Grant got in because of that rule at one point when they had a 5-5 record. Looks like my Bulldogs just got punched in the mouth by the commissioner for scheduling one of the tougher nonleague schedules in the section.

The committee has always liked the "big SJS powers."

The Committee always favors the Sacramento Area Teams. Shud Wood win it sure is gonna be a doozy! Wood has never beaten the Mighty Grant Pacers (whom also have Size, Speed & Tradition). Be interesting if they face Granite Bay (a very physical team from the SFL-Super Football League). Will they win over Granite Bay for the City of Vacaville? Will Coach Pop bring in the "Spread" like former Head Football Coach Fred Jones brought in the "Wing T?" Just wondering

LOL Vacaville bring in the spread???? Did you bump your head ???? Vacaville isn't going to change anything offensively due to an off year with a team dominated by juniors a couple sophmores and a freshman. They will bring the same offense next seas with the same starters only 1 year older , bigger and stronger. They will loose some linemen but have a decent group coming up from JV at 8-2 record. Wood's JV went 1-9 I believe so they will try to replenish a Senior heavy team with a sub par JV squad. It may get ugly for the Wildcats in 2016. As for 2015 they are on a rampage and will certainly win playoff week one get a sure challenge week 2 and then face a giant in Grant if they can make week 3. As for Vacaville bringing in the spread, they can't complete routine passes as it is why would they go to a pass dominate offense when they couldn't get a QB to step up to take the starting role till like week 7. Vacaville has horses, they will continue to run the ball business as usual.

Vacaville has run the Wing T since the days of Zunino. Not going to change a thing.

Vacaville has an off year. No one is worries or wringing their hands with this seasons results.

This is the year Wood has been building for the last 4 years. No surprises.

Vaca had a young team. No excuses though. Next year will be better.

Good luck to the Wildcats and Indians in the playoffs. Represent the MEL!

Hopefully next year wud be a Section Banner for Vaca High. Hoping this year the Wildcats get it!

I have watched Vacaville for a few years now since moving to the area. They should have a pretty good team next year. I predict the League Championship and at least the second round of the playoffs. All of Woods skill positions are Seniors and their Freshman and JV teams struggled. Because it was a down year for Vacaville it seemed like they didn't open the playbook up as much as previous and I still don't get their passing plays. Although Vacaville is a running team, their passing plays are difficult on the QB. He always has to roll out and pass on the run with a single option. They use to run a slant play that worked very well. The line play should be much better and they will be able take a better advantage of the subtleties of the Wing-T.
They do need to straighten out their special teams. The last couple of years their special teams have looked pretty shaky. I would even say special teams play lost them the Napa game. While both teams used the pooch kick, Napa adjusted and put their punt return specialist as an up back to catch the ball. Napa ended up starting on the Vacaville side several times. It would have been better to do onside kicks at least they may have had a chance of recovering the ball. Vacaville did nothing, no adjustments at all. Their up backs who did receive the ball called for a fair catch with a 10 yard spacing between him and the kicking team.
