De La Salle 2026 DB Jaden Jefferson has committed to North Carolina

North Carolina has shown its national reach under Bill Belichik and now they are bringing in one of the top rising seniors from NorCal
Agree, but you have to wonder how much longer is Belichek going to coach. I’m sure that the recruiting grind is going to take its toll on a man his age at some point, though the Belichek name is worth tons on the recruiting trail

NCS post-season bracketing: What I understand

As well as, cut the number of teams that qualify per-division to 8, currently 16 per division qualify. The the total number of schools who qualify represents over 65% of all NCS schools. Why try so hard to build equity in post season brackets, with way to many teams and rules. The process seems like it can be simpler and more transparent.
First; cut the number of teams who qualify to 8.
Second: Open - 6 teams, D1 through D6 - 8 teams per division
Third; Top 6 teams - Open , take 1 through 48 and seed top to bottom (use MaxPreps rankings to start and adjust where it makes sense) break each division at 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48.

10th Annual Elite Showcase

Yep!

D4 private* Justin-Siena having the 2nd best season in school history...

25-2 regular season. (potentially)
2 loses in NCS Open?
1st round loss in D1 Norcals?
3 straight losses to end season?
25-5...REALLY crappy way to end a GREAT season by JS potentially.

And the team sitting in the cat-bird seat?

Marin Catholic...

D4 teams...
CN, Pied, JS to Open
Salesian (#75 MP) moved up to D2..

MC (#137 MP) sitting there in D4 and gifted another watered down D4 section as the top teams get pulled AGAIN!

Competitive equity is awesome! (Eye roll)
What year was their best season? I know they were really good about 15 years ago?

10th Annual Elite Showcase

Justin-Siena has 5 games left vs teams they already played (in league) and beaten EASILY.

They are going to be 23-2 before league playoffs. They've dominated their league so 25-2 after league playoffs? CVC is right behind them in the MaxPreps rankings but still has a game vs Acalanes (and an assumed loss). Sooooo....I think we are going to have a 1st time NCS Open participant this season. Let's all welcome Justin-Siena to the NCS Open!

BOD (if they run the table) still may have a shot to sneak in but its going to be difficult to gain ground on JS when JS isnt going to lose. BOD has Piedmont 1 more time also...

BOD only has 23 games scheduled which means that's 3 potential wins that could be added to their record if they fill the openings.

Riordan's trump card

The combination of a coed boarding component and the closure of all-female Mercy-SF pushing Riordan to admit girls has lifted the one-time all-male school toward financial viability. The formula seems to be working, although we don't have access to the school's financial records, including its endowment stash. Twenty miles to the south in San Mateo, Serra remains an all-boys school. Its enrollment (now in the range of 900 students) has been greatly enhanced by its huge football program _ at least 225 boys on three teams. Football players represent about one-quarter of the entire student body today. Riordan, too, is using its athletic program (football and basketball) to bolster enrollment and project a positive PR image for the region. Kudos to the authorities there. They have finally found a formula to keep their school afloat.

10th Annual Crush in the Valley Basketball Showcase Jan. 24-26, 2025

It was pretty filled up for the Prolific and Salesian games.

St Joseph’s really impressed me, as they essentially led from start to finish against Salesian.

Had a chance to talk to their bookperson, and he told me that they are 90% sure they will end up on the Norcal side of CIF, just like last season.

Tounde, is actually smaller than I thought, but boy oh boy is he a special talent. Was a lot of fun to watch him play in person tonight.
St Joe's was in South last year, lost to Roosevelt to end season

NCS open-division 3 seedings

SRV will be in the NCS Open. Let’s see how they do there before making decisions on NorCal seeding. They are a senior laden team that has played a lot of big games over the years.
They'll get overwhelmed / bounced by Riordan or St Joes by 20+ points but we'll see won't we . I still tend to underestimate the top teams from the EBL so I probably am biased.

10th Annual Elite Showcase

Carondelet was down five at half, and then turned on the switch in the second half. Evelini Smith played maybe eight minutes before fouling out, several on illegal screens.

Clovis West just wore down Pinewood with its depth. Pinewood is as athletic as I've ever seen them.

SMS is at an interesting point. Its JVs are good (beat Carondelet 58-55) but there are only eight or nine on the roster. And there is no frosh team. So the total program participation is around 20, it appears, which is not a good sign, one would think.

10th Annual Elite Showcase

Some Final Scores:
Carondelet beat St. Mary's of Stockton, 78-50
Surprisingly large final score spread. SMS now is 10-11 overall--when is the last time SMS had a losing record after 20 games played? Any historians?

Clovis West beat Pinewood, 54-50
CW will probably be in the NorCal Open Division.

California beat Woodcreek, 57-49
McClatchy beat Caruthers, 65-49
St. Ignatius beat Christian Brothers, 55-52
Chico vs Alameda - no score posted

Lick-Wilmerding beat Dublin, 39-38
Closest game finish of the tournament saved for last

Other Games outside Tournament:
Antelope beat Piedmont, 53-51

Justin-Siena beat Marin Catholic, 78-59
Justin -Siena is now 18-2 in the NCS Div. 4

Bishop O'Dowd beat Salesian, 67-47
San Ramon Valley beat Pinole Valley, 61-41
