A long rivalry reverses

It began in 1946 during the Truman Administration. It became the oldest Peninsula/South Bay prep football rivalry in the earliest iteration of the region's embryonic Catholic league. Bellarmine vs. Serra was a much-anticipated contest well into the 1970s. It lost some luster as the Bells took charge. They dominated into the 1990s. That has changed. Markedly. Over the last eight seasons, the rivalry has tilted dramatically toward San Mateo. Serra hasn't lost since 2015, a string of eight straight wins by big margins. The difference has been striking. Serra has outscored Bellarmine, 340-40, during that span. When the two schools meet at San Jose City College Friday night, the Padres will be heavily favored again as the winless Bells flounder for the second year in a row in the WCAL. They were 2-8 last year. They are 0-7 now. The Bells, who began playing football well over a century ago as Santa Clara Preparatory, have not gone winless since 1936 when they went 0-6-1. They still lead the all-time series with Serra, 49-31-2. But the tide has turned so stunningly it's difficult for alumni of both schools to fathom how fortunes have been reversed so severely.

What is going on with Riordan?

It All Started With Brandon Huffman Writing and Hyping the Riordan Players , then the offers were flowing ! Brandon Huffman been pretty Quite lately l ! Did Riordan take Huffman off the PAYROLL? Really makes you think about the Legitimacy Of Brandon Huffman's endorsement!!
I’m calling 🐂💩. The offers came in after these players participated in the numerous off season college and invitational camps like Rivals, UnderArmour and Nike. Coach Ravipati also provided its spring camp schedule for all the schools’ scouts and coaches. Offers are made of a player’s potential/ceiling in addition to their performance in high school including academics. 80% are on the honor roll with several carry 4.0 GPAs. Amazing how some on this board throw shade at a program that is providing exposure for its players and the opportunity to get a free ride to College and to play at the next level. Btw - this attracts many college programs that never come out to NorCal and almost all of them visit the area’s HS spring camps. And Once again - show me a fake offer.

This is not quite accurate. Typically players already have offers before any stars come (which is the main thing Huffman does), not the other way around. For example I saw that Winn has over 40 offers yet hasn't been given stars yet (probably will come this year given he's a sophomore).
Huffman Does not issue Stars( rankings) that's Greg Biggins. Huffman does the stories ( hype) in some cases. Their are a Ton of D1 athletes in HS football that have Stats and Tape that Huffman does not subscribe too or report on. Huffman has a group of trainers and Coaches he subscribes too. It's unfortunately 💰 Game and these adults are screwing it up for the kids .

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

I think this is NorCal in general

St Francis
Serra did for a long time
And De la salle still does

Outside of Folsom, St Mary and a few others. It's more of a run the ball control the clock football game here.

Southern California
Texas
Florida
Georgia

More passing the ball and spread offense.

I mean at least that what it seems Folsom got a 5 star QB but I think most of NorCal doesn't have a 2 star or a highly touted QB

Down south and then other states are heavy on the QB and speed
Great points. I think DLS has the most dynamic run game of the three teams you listed (SF, DLS, Serra), and it's bolstered by their discipline, coaching & that beautiful explosive line snap technique. I love what Walsh has done by infusing some more pro-style packages. Even though Serra is having a bit of a down-year by their standards, they will be in just about any game because their offense is dynamic enough.

John Beam to step down as Laney HC after this season

He will stay on as the athletic director at Laney. He will have spent 45 years as a football coach

I remember he was Skyline Highs HC, after Tony Fardella stepped down. Back when Skyline ruled the OAL for decades

Week 9 Scores

Turlock shut down the Downey offense, and moved at will for the first three drives in the first half. Downey had a short field TD when they recovered a fumble inside the Turlock 10 and then they had a long pass for the second TD. That was the extent of their scoring, all in the first half. There were several unsportsmanlike penalties, including at least one on Turlock, maybe more. One of their (Turlock) initial drives was aided by a 30-yard total penalty, a roughing the passer and unsportsmanlike tacked on. I would not say the refs decided this game as Turlock repeatedly stopped Downey. Turlock also had some lost fumbles that stifled drives, and had an interception (of Downey) that also resulted in an unsportsmanlike penalty for excessive celebrating and taunting. (It should be noted that I am a Turlock fan). The Downey QB had pressure on him all night and was able to scramble for some gains, and it should also be noted that he had some good passes dropped. But the fact of the matter is (any bias on my side acknowledged) that Downey had not played anyone this season, even with a strengthened non-conference schedule, on the level of Turlock and could not run up the passing yards and scores. I can see from a Downey fan's perspective that the ref's calls were factors but that wasn't why they lost.
We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one. Also, although Turlock had a tough non-league schedule, they only beat Clovis West and Tracy (who also lost to Lincoln and Edison by a mile). All the other games, it lost. And, when the refs "miss" several holding calls (plain as day and I was up in the stands) and certain momentum-snuffing calls, of course it's going to take its toll on the visitors. And, at the end of the day, it is what it is, and a win is a win, so congratulations to the Bulldogs.

Turlock FR quarterabck Scout Silva is a gamer

He just turned 16 in September. Not sure how the 19 year old rule works but I would think his family took that into account. My understanding is that he was held back or held out of school entirely for a year after 8th grade and worked with a quarterback coach during that time, which would indicate to me that this decision was football related and not academic. Even being 16, going essentially from 8th grade to a starter on a large school varsity team is remarkable. In the very first game of the season against Rocklin he showed poise and confidence and Turlock actually led at halftime. He has done well in all the games although I did not see their game against Folsom so I assume he struggled as has every else in the section against them. Turlock has scheduled tough non-conference games for a number of years to get the team battle-hardened as the league they're in is very weak, so their chance of an undefeated regular season is essentially nil (they are 5-3 now). Since 2018, the first year of the CCAL league, Turlock has only lost 3 league games. Silva is listed as 5'9", but is probably closer to 5'8" or 5"7". Will he get any taller? I don't know. I reached my full height at 16, but some grow later in age. As for the playoffs, Turlock is Div. 1 (5th largest school in the section) and should certainly get a first round home game, if not a top 4 seeding, depending on what the committee thinks. They have not had a problem winning the first round but then run up against the SFL teams, especially Oak Ridge as they have played them at least 3 times in the recent years. In 2022 they had the big upset of St. Mary's in the second round but then got back down to earth the following week against Oak Ridge. Just getting past the second round would be a huge deal but of course Folsom is waiting at the end for any team that gets that far.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

I don’t think the WCAL is weak this year. I think de la Salle is better than they’ve been in over a decade. I think this DLS team could actually beat Bosco, not mater dei, but Bosco. Saint Francis has historically good running back and serra is good too, but young. They’re going to slay next year. I can’t wait to see what DLS does in state. Unfortunately, I think they’re going to be matched up with mater dei and they don’t have the guns for them
Serra won't slay without a quality QB.
