Folsom Rule?

I have heard the "Folsom Rule" mentioned many times. Help a SoCal brother out ... what is the Folsom Rule?
The bottom line of the “Folsom Rule” is that we no longer have a playoff to determine NorCal’s best team. The top ranked team automatically goes to the Open championship, while all other teams have to get through a NorCal playoff game for a shot at a bowl game.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

And that drive was in the 4th quarter of a one score game.

I sat in the shade on the Folsom side last year at Serra, I heard the Folsom coaches trying to sell their players on "We're the more physical team". When you're trying to convince your team of it, you know you're not.
I watched the game last year and was at the game this year. Last year no chance in hell Folsom was more physical or better than Serra. Serra was best in NorCal last season, no questions.

This season I didn’t walk away from the game thinking Serra was more physical. I thought both teams were about even on that front. Serra outplayed Folsom this season, plain and simple. Folsom has a better roster but Serra knew how to beat them. All props to Serra as they found a way to win the game late in the 4th when I thought Folsom was about to pull away.

If the two teams played again I think Folsom wins. They have some big time players that didn’t play in that game including maybe the best lineman in all of NorCal.

I hope Folsom gets to play the top team from the WCAL in the playoffs and not Pitt again….

Diaz-Infante (Bellarmine)

I know they had high hopes that Diaz-Infante could lead Bellarmine back into relevance but after the near completion of his 2nd season it looks like the Bells will have a combined record of either (2-18)/(3-17)/or(4-16). With the lower levels in absolute chaos also, how long does Diaz-Infante get (either by choice or getting fired) to turn the program around? It seems from an outsiders perspective that Bellarmine has conceded its football program for the forseeable future. And dont drop the programs ebb and flow argument because this is not ebbing, this is a complete crash.

Salinas vs Soquel at "The Pit"

I think Salinas would prefer a high-scoring game, while Soquel might want a defensive battle.

This will be the best defense Salinas has seen since Clovis, while this may be the most dynamic offense Soquel has seen.

Game could go either way.
Soquel plays a very aggressive secondary. They aren't afraid to leave their corners on an island. They do a very good job disguising. It will be interesting to see what Coach Lowery does to contain Turner. Salinas has a pretty straightforward offensive scheme. They like to grind you out with the run game and short quick passing game. Once you get sucked in they hit you over the top and run through you on the ground. Everyone knows the game plan but not many have stopped it or even slowed it down. The Soquel D plays chess while Salinas O plays checkers. Its going to be a fun match up.

PCAL Week 10

PCAL Week 10

Last week 11-2 Overall 108-31

Gabilan (Aptos bye)- Palma’s big win over Hollister probably gets them into the playoffs, again. I wonder if Palma fans ever gets bored of going to the playoffs every year. It is pretty cool for the division that 6 of the 7 teams are going (probably). Of course this week is about the matchup between perennial champion Salinas and up and comer Soquel. Can Salina’s high-power offense get past Soquel’s defense? Will Soquel’s ball control offense be able to not slip up against Salinas’s big play defense? In other action Palma and Monterey look to battle for third place, while Hollister needs to beat Alvarez to secure a post season bid.

Fri 11/01 Hollister (CA) at Alvarez (Salinas, CA), 7:30pm -Alvarez beat Hollister last year, if they do it again then beat Palma next week, they would make the playoffs. I don’t think they have the team this year for that, plus Hollister will want revenge. Hollister 35-14

Fri 11/01 Palma (Salinas, CA) at Monterey (CA), 7:30pm-
This should be an entertaining game. Palam will try to keep Monterey’s offense on the sideline (or playing defense). If you can out physical Monterey, you can beat them. Palam needs a bit more consistency from the young QB1 to prevent teams from stacking the box to stop the run. They had that last week vs Hollister. If Monterey QB1 is playing, they win if he is out, Advantage Palma. Palma 21-17

Fri 11/01 Soquel (CA) at Salinas (CA), 7:30pm
- I have not seen either team live this year, but watching tape and seeing how each competes, I think Soquel might have a slight edge. Their defense is nasty, and they have this “west coast” ball control offense. Nothing fancy but very effective. That being said, Salinas is the champ until they get dethroned, plus QB1 is healthy and looks to have built a great connection with their dynamic WR1. Taking the champs until they get beat. Salinas 24-23

Mission North- (Scott’s Valley Bye)
Back to Chaos. With MVC’s upset win over North County you have 3 teams with 1 loss, plus MVC and their “air raid” offense sitting right their with 2 losses. St Francis and NMC play this weekend and that will help one of them gain separation. I still think Alisal and NMC emerge, but St. Francis and MVC are very much alive. Still not sure how Watsonville beat MVC but lost to Seaside??

Fri 11/01 Alisal (Salinas, CA) vs Watsonville (CA) at Cabrillo College (Aptos, CA), 7:30pm -Alisal probably has the “easiest” path towards the playoff, but they cannot overlook Watsonville who destroyed MVC a few weeks ago. Alisal 24-7

Sat 11/02 Monte Vista Christian (Watsonville, CA) at Seaside (CA), 7:30pm
-Seaside will keep battling and they may have the athletes in the secondary to slow doan MVC air attack. But after last weeks big win over NMC, Monte Vista has all the momentum. MVC 35-14

Sat 11/02 North Monterey County (Castroville, CA) at St. Francis (Watsonville, CA), 12:30pm-
Winner takes a huge step forward towards the playoffs, while the loser takes huge step back. I think that NMC rebounds from last weeks upset loss. NMC 21-20

Mission South (King City Bye)-
North Salinas got with in 2 scores in the third quarter last week but the game vs Carmel was never in doubt. This Carmel team is very good and will be the prohibitive favorite in the CCS DIII Playoffs. So now North Salinas will have to lick its wounds and make sure it secures 2nd place. Soledad played a good non-league schedule and will be a tough out for North Salinas. The rest of the teams in the Mission South are just looking to build for next year.

Fri 11/01 Carmel (CA) at Greenfield (CA), 7:30pm -Greenfield has been a little bit of a disappointment this year. I did not think they would win, just thought they would be more competitive. Still like what I ma seeing with the large turnout for the program. Carmel 48-14

Fri 11/01 Rancho San Juan (Salinas, CA) at Pacific Grove (CA), 7:30pm;
Rancho has really regressed this year. They will probably be regulated to the Santa Lucia and see if it can rebuild. PG has had a good year and will probably challenge in the next 2 years. PG 34-7

Soledad (CA) at North Salinas (Salinas, CA), 1:00pm
- A Saturday afternoon game on campus at North Salinas. I like it!! If North Salinas wins, they secure 2nd place and a playoff bid. If Soledad wins, they will have control of the playoff bid and need to beat KC next week to secure it. Upset special. Soledad 21-18

Santa Lucia (Pajaro Baye)-
Clash of the Titans this weekend in the Santa Cruz Mountains. SLV hosts RLS in a heavyweight battle. The Coveted Santa Lucia Division Championship is on the line! Forget Soquel V Salinas or Newman v Marin Catholic. Those guys are all going to the playoff win or lose. Neither SLV or RLS make the field as an at large, so this game is for all the marbles. Way more pressure and excitement.

Fri 11/01 Santa Cruz (CA) at Harbor (Santa Cruz, CA), 7:00pm -Harbor embarrassed a shorthanded Santa Cruz team last year. Look for the Cardinals to get some revenge. Santa Cruz 21-10

Fri 11/01 Gonzales (CA) vs Marina (CA) at Seaside (CA), 7:30pm-
Marina just playing out the season until they can start hosting games next year. Gonzales 34-7

Sat 11/02 Stevenson (Pebble Beach, CA) at San Lorenzo Valley (Felton, CA), 2:30pm
-RLS is at full strength, this roster probably beats PG and Greenfield earlier in the year. SLV is still undefeated and has the better wins over Scott’s Valley, Greenfield and South SF. It will come down to SLV’s Defense (allowing 5.7 Points Per SL game) Vs RLS offense (Scoring 43.7 Point per SL game). SLV has not faced an offense this good. RLS (duh) 31-28

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

Again I'm looking at film. Go back and look at that film and come back and say "Serra beat them up". Its objectionably false. I'll agree they definitely made stupid mistakes. The big plays Serra made to keep them in the game were pass plays and a couple of "trick" plays (role out pass hand off reverse). They had one drive which I would somewhat call smash mouth but that was it.
And that drive was in the 4th quarter of a one score game.

I sat in the shade on the Folsom side last year at Serra, I heard the Folsom coaches trying to sell their players on "We're the more physical team". When you're trying to convince your team of it, you know you're not.

Folsom Rule?

Speaking of the folsom rule.... It comes to bite them this year right?
Here is how I see the rest of year playing out.
Folsom will run the table the rest of the way winning league, SJS D1, and then end up playing maybe a Pitt in the Norcal champ? Folsom will then play in the everybody gets a trophy D1aa game which has been Folsom motto. The loss to Serra basically ruined their season.
DLS will run the table and win Open D1 NCS and get bid to OPEN State Champ in which MD will lay a punishment like never seen before.
D-1A

At this point, there is a strong chance that they'll play the CCS D-Open winner in D-1A. The NCS D-1 winner will probably play at the CS D-1 winner if it is Clovis East in D-1AA. Due to common opponent (Serra), Folsom would be behind either St. Francis or St. Ignatius from the CCS.

Despite the fact that Folsom holds rankings/ratings advantages over the CCS teams, it appears that both the NCS D-1/Open and CCS D-I/Open may be stronger brackets than SJS D-I. Cal-Hi probably won't switch them, but it could happen on Calpreps.

Folsom and Clovis East are about even on Calpreps, but I'm not really sure in which division the Timberwolves will be playing. They're listed as D-II, which means they could be moved up to D-I. However, the CS is hosting two D-I brackets. I looked on the CS website and it shows the divisions, but not how they'd be determined. D-IAA is the top 8, then D-IA is the next 8? Or is it the 8 largest, then the next 8 largest? Either way, the CS bracket for Clovis East could still be stronger than SJS D-I. Cal-Hi would not switch their rankings, but that may not matter, especially after last year with Clovis North.

San Diego State Aztecs host the Oregon Ducks, November 27th.... BJ Davis versus Jamari Phillips reunion.

Jamari coming out party was that State Champ game against a loaded Centennial Team. Believe it was tied late and Centennial ending up winning by 9 or so but he was amazing. That put him on radar big time. If he comes back for his entire Jr. year I think you guys are back in the state open finals but I don't think you beat Harvard West Lake. Who knows but nice to see them both playing major college hoops.

Former Modesto Christian Stars Bj Davis, Jamari Phillips, battle. It will be interesting to see these two match-up against each other as they have shared the castle on Sisk Road!! What would have happened if Jamari had stayed/ Would BJ been so dominate his senior year? Did Jamari pass on a possible Open title? We all have our thoughts, but now we can watch them at the collegiate level and perhaps the Pros.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

I just love how the Public Schhol fans come to the WCAL thread and crow about their team,..

Hmm, I guess if their team is mentioned on the WCAL season 2024, it makes that public legit🤫🤫🤣🤣

But the WCAL poster idiot did list this thread as “24-25 season,…must not be a SI grad🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Or related to @Irish_Cheers ( family rivalry within the city )
You obviously have never been on the MaxPreps football site to see how the current and previous seasons are categorized.

You should venture out more you might learn something.

Folsom Rule?

It should be noted that when it came to a vote, all 10 CIF sections voted to eliminate the Open regional games.

While there remains three top divisions in NorCal that could conceivably lay claim to having the NorCal Open rep, there rarely has been much question as to who that should be anyway, particularly in recent years where the top teams have been facing off in non-league action.

In the south, however, the Southern Section laid any question about the SoCal Open rep moot by its restructuring of its playoffs. The SS D-I champ is the king of the region (and lately the state overall) with no real challenges from any other regional section.

Despite some whimpering from some fans who can't just let it go (or have vendettas against Folsom), there is no real possibility of a Open regional game returning due to the SoCal structure and the fact that you can't have different rules for the two regions. Several teams/sections from both NorCal and SoCal have benefited from this rule change.

Folsom Rule?

Supposedly, Folsom complained some years that they couldn't get past DLS in the playoffs and lobbied for a rule change that might give them the chance to get to a state bowl without having to beat DLS in the NorCal playoffs.

This is heavily disputed, especially by Folsom fans. But there were changes made. IMHO, it was more about having more top NorCal teams get to State Bowls than giving Folsom a chance to "miss" DLS.

So, it's kinda murky.
