Predictions

Smith is the real deal, so is Mitty.

Without Quieroz, Newman drops back to a large pack trailing Mitty. SRV, O'Dowd (most likely). Carondelet, Salesian (maybe) in NCS; Folsom and SMS are the names I know from SJS. Los Gatos might be good, and some WCAL teams will be strong as well.

I saw that Taissa from CN committed to UNC, but she still has one more season left to play? Wouldn't that make CN a contender, still?

Folsom Rule?

Speaking of the folsom rule.... It comes to bite them this year right?
Here is how I see the rest of year playing out.
Folsom will run the table the rest of the way winning league, SJS D1, and then end up playing maybe a Pitt in the Norcal champ? Folsom will then play in the everybody gets a trophy D1aa game which has been Folsom motto. The loss to Serra basically ruined their season.
DLS will run the table and win Open D1 NCS and get bid to OPEN State Champ in which MD will lay a punishment like never seen before.
Never seen before? It’s seen every Open Championship game

Salinas vs Soquel at "The Pit"

Soquel practically bores you to death. Ball control offense and tough defense. After the first qtr your down 7-0. Maybe you hit big play but they score some points then your down 21-7 at half. You still have a chance. Then third qtr their defense clamps down (coaching staff is great at adjustments) and next thing you know your down 28-7 with 5 mins left in the 4th qtr.

Salinas has a great QB, WR1 and O line, with some threats at RB. They will match up well with Soquel on that side of the ball. They will be able to score. Salinas must get Soquel off the field on offense and not let them do these long methodical drives.

The unusual thing about this game is it means very little in the big picture, winner probably gets to hang a banner (and that is a cool thing), but as far as playoffs win or lose, both these teams end up in the open/DI bracket as a 5-8 team playing a WCAL team or Los Gatos. The good news is unlike years past, there is no superior/dominant team in the CCS. St Francis has established itself as the front runner )for now), but I think any and all DI/Open teams have a chance including both Soquel and Salinas.
Well, that is one thing...

If the winner gets the 5 seed and the loser gets the 7, you can then look at the potential playoff opponents. St. Ignatius at #2 for the #7 seed and probably Serra at #4 for the #5 seed. Frankly, I think I might want to take my chances against St. Iggy more than Serra. 😬

Sometimes you can win by losing and lose by winning.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

I watched the game last year and was at the game this year. Last year no chance in hell Folsom was more physical or better than Serra. Serra was best in NorCal last season, no questions.

This season I didn’t walk away from the game thinking Serra was more physical. I thought both teams were about even on that front. Serra outplayed Folsom this season, plain and simple. Folsom has a better roster but Serra knew how to beat them. All props to Serra as they found a way to win the game late in the 4th when I thought Folsom was about to pull away.

If the two teams played again I think Folsom wins. They have some big time players that didn’t play in that game including maybe the best lineman in all of NorCal.

I hope Folsom gets to play the top team from the WCAL in the playoffs and not Pitt again….
I would love to see a Folsom vs St. Francis matchup

Folsom Rule?

I would be shocked if Folsom has a game within 21 points the rest of the season including bowl games. (this assumes they are not going to open)
I'm not a Folsom lover but now that they have all their transfers eligible this is a team on a diff level.
... or maybe the rest of the teams they've been playing aren't as good as usual. I think most people agree that the SFAL is a little down this year.
Probably a bit of both.

Salinas vs Soquel at "The Pit"

One X-factor will be penalties. I think Soquel is going to try to grind it out on offense in order to control the ToP, but Salinas can't help them with countless holding penalties. I understand that RPOs can be tough on the o-lines if they don't know where their QB is going, but they have to remain disciplined.

One thing I've never understood about the Salinas offense is the fact that the QBs almost never carry out fakes. If they hand the ball off, that's the end of it. They don't fake like they're taking it themselves. Maybe that works to their favor when they do bolt (catches defenses sleeping), but it seems to me that causing one additional read for the D-ends can only be beneficial for the handoffs. They don't want to tire out the QBs with additional running? I don't know.

This could be a really emotional game. Both teams need to keep their tempers in check. We don't need to see anyone get hurt with late hits or anything like that.

Folsom Rule?

At least the rest of regular season and SJS DI playoffs. We will see who they are paired up with for RBG and, if successful, SBG
