Honesty, I think there is a lot of kudos to make Open. It suggests that you are the NorCal best even if the end game is an incredibly and impossibly difficult one.I'm not insinuating SI is going to make that deep. But, for any and all Northern California schools.
Do they really want to be in the Open Division knowing what the prize is at the end?
And don't forget Mike Machado at Valley Christian, currently with 232 wins - 26 years including covid year.Other head coaches that coached in CCS All time. May have missed a few that retired in other section or state
Unofficial
300+ Randy Blankenship (2023 retired), Aptos (14 years), Clovis West (8), Fallbrook (2), Mira Loma (10 seasons), Nevada Union (7), Granberry TX (1), Capistrano Valley (1), and Madera (8). * More years coaching outside of section.

Lots of other great coaches under 200. e.g., Pete Lovorato, Sacred Heart Prep and The Kings Academy - 160-170 wins estimate; Golden Anderson (2009 to current) , Carmel High CA (my estimate 127+)
Andrew Heneghan has done a good job, and he wants to be there. This might be some sort of record. Five former Serra quarterbacks are starting for other schools in 2024. Those schools are: Capuchino, Menlo-Atherton, Jefferson, Mount Diablo and Bishop Manogue (Reno). All five left the San Mateo school for different reasons. All five are directing teams with winning records as playoffs loom. The end result on West 20th Avenue: A distinct lack of experienced QBs throughout the program which currently embraces about 230 boys.
Why hasn't C-Let been in the "top teams" conversation in Norcal? I thought that was Kelly's goal when he took over. Every year I hear about Mitty, BOD, SMS. I don't hear them dominate the conversation like they did when Margaret was there. Just curious to hear your thoughts even more so since there's the Cal Stars connection.Smith is the real deal, so is Mitty.
Without Quieroz, Newman drops back to a large pack trailing Mitty. SRV, O'Dowd (most likely). Carondelet, Salesian (maybe) in NCS; Folsom and SMS are the names I know from SJS. Los Gatos might be good, and some WCAL teams will be strong as well.
If we can get there as nothing is guaranteed. I'd take SI's chances against Folsom considering Serra beat them.

But Folsom would do them real bad in that championship game
Sicp wining on grit and heart
I actually want SI to make it and play MD. I want to see SI lose 77-0. Hummel gets PUMMELED. Hunkin is SUNKEN. Hogan for No Gain.
DLS will win out and get the open nod, Folsom vs. CCS open winner in the top norcal gameI actually want SI to make it and play MD. I want to see SI lose 77-0. Hummel gets PUMMELED. Hunkin is SUNKEN. Hogan for No Gain.
I actually want SI to make it and play MD. I want to see SI lose 77-0. Hummel gets PUMMELED. Hunkin is SUNKEN. Hogan for No Gain. Here's a question?
Does any North California team really want to make it to the State Championship game against Mater Dei?
I selfishly, would be okay with SI losing the Open Division round dropping down to D1A or D1AA and winning from there.
I'm not insinuating SI is going to make that deep. But, for any and all Northern California schools.Let us not jump the gun on any of the WCAL's playoff units. We haven't even finished the regular season. SI (and the other WCAL playoff teams) will have a difficult CCS road ahead. Nothing is guaranteed. Just remember 2023 when the league's best flamed out to a large extent as public schools rose up and dashed WCAL hopes (Serra being an obvious exception).
You really don’t think SRV will be in the mix? Time will tell…Open will be
Acalanes ( NCS winner)
Folsom ( SJS #2)
McClatchy (SJS Winner)
Mitty ( CCS Winner)
Pinewood (CCS #2)
O Dowd or CLET (NCS #2)
In the mix Oakland Tech has a few great players ( two high level D1 players) , Riordan should be on the verge this year and Clovis West will go Open if they get moved North . Piedmont will also surpise people this year despite losing their roster. Don't know what Cardinal Newman looks like without the big but they will obviously still be in the mix. Saint Mary's will scrap but won't hang with the elites this year. No one is close to Mitty again this year in Norcal and they won't play any competitve games against a team from Norcal in my opinion.
What about the small public schools that routinely get blasted by CN and MC?“Competitive Equity” is generally a lose lose for small enrollment schools. Enrollment still is a factor and correlated to computer rankings. With the exception of city schools a bigger enrollment provides a bigger pool of athletes. Small schools are either pulled up to play bigger schools or bigger schools are sent down. Thus a lose, lose. Also CE punishes success and rewards mediocrity. That being said small good schools should want to move up to challenge themselves but the system to move should be voluntary. I would also let schools that historically underachieve be allowed to petition to move down. What we are seeing now with CE is the Strong are getting stronger and the Weak are getting weaker. CN and MC will be driven by CE to get better and will probably accomplish it by attracting more players from weak public schools who will get worse. I like enrollment based divisions with a voluntary open to give the top teams the chance to compete to be #1. Right now the playoffs seem meaningless once you get below Open/D1 and perhaps D2. Attendance and interest in HS sports playoffs seems to be declining with this new system. League play is more interesting with its traditional league rivalries.
