Riordan's Big Moment

The time is now. Followers of the Crusaders' football program have been waiting for three years for this moment. The team is on the brink of a significant accomplishment. If it can defeat Los Gatos next weekend in the CCS Division I playoffs, it will then play for a section championship and a slot in the CIF NorCal playoffs. The Crusaders dismantled Soquel on Saturday. That followed big WCAL wins vs. Serra and St. Francis. Riordan is finally playing up to its talent level. That's a scary thought. The Riordan roster, though not especially deep, is bursting with big-time individual star power. Until now, it has clearly under-performed. But the outlook has turned brighter, mainly because the defense has been shored up and mistakes are being kept to a minimum. Crusader backers are on a high _ with fingers crossed.

Haha.. I say you in a few cardinal 4 life videos as well. LT played a great game. Good adj by coach sanchez to get the ball out of his hands quicker. SRV is tough. QB is a stud and LB Jones will be best player they've seen all year. But we aren't so shabby either.

Does anybody know if you have to get to the champ game of the open to get an "AT Large"? I want to say the loser of the open NCS will still be playing?

MC is a hell of a team. They did get super tight on offensive play calling and Newman figured out they could run consistently. I'm curious what total offense looked like for MC minus the 66 yard TD run early.
CN is actually not in The Open bracket, they are in the NCS D1 bracket so they are playing SRV in the D1 Semi Final….

The Winner of DLS vs PITT is the Open Champ, the loser of that game drops down into the D1 Final to play the winner of SRV vs CN….

Open Bracket = 1 vs 8 and 2 vs 7, the winners play for the open title….

D1 Bracket = seeds 3 Vs 6 and 4 vs 5, the winners of those games move on to D1 Semifinals and The Winner plays the Loser of the Open game for D1 title….

It’s a confusing and dumb set up in my opinion but designed so the NCS doesn’t send thier 2nd best team home….. The CCS is the same set up now as well….

Los Gatos 14, Serra 7

Maybe not. But Serra has had two strong frosh classes in a row, this year and last. There are playmakers on those two rosters. They will have a big impact in 2025, and 2026 for sure. But we shall see.

Sure but there is some context to that. Riordan and SHC have no freshmen teams and so you’d have to compare their freshmen team to Riordan and SHC’s JV team. At the same time, SI takes any experienced freshmen to JV or Varsity. None of the three schools were pulling like Serra so they decided to get a little innovative to help bridgen the gap.

I saw Serra’s Sophomore team play Riordan’s and it was more competitive than the score would suggest. Serra #1 playing a triple hold back (who w
Serra had lost one game in NorCal for four years, with 3 straight open appearances.

I think naturally people thought it would continue, it may of just been a great class.

Either way serra had a down year but they should be back to to they usual 9 or so wins they was before they run.

They got alot of good young players coming back, coach Walsh a great coach, they simply need to grow

Serra does it organically with just recruiting, they don't do the transfer thing really. So it's hard to build a dominant team yearly.

They should be better next year

Recruiting and Organically completely contradict each other.

Los Gatos 14, Serra 7

They dont do the transfer thing? What was Maealiuaki Smith? They have built such a good program that there is really no excuse to not have a starting QB every season who isnt a D1 prospect. Look at the list prior to this season. Smith, Lampkin, Nunn, Bottari...

True that was they Achilles heel they had 4 QB leave

I'm thinking they will have a better one next year

Los Gatos 14, Serra 7

Tough season for Serra. Idk if they’ll ever be back to what they were for those 3 years.

I don’t see it. When the schools around em have have gotten better. When Serra recruited that class they had to worry about Valley, St. Francis and Bellarmine pulling from their talent pool. Bellarmine is no longer a threat but suddenly the three San Francisco schools are awake and taking from them. Bellarmine may have fallen off but Los Gatos has proven to be a WCAL-caliber public school program with equal or better education.

The Padres as cooked.
