Playoff Scoreboard (November 15-16)

Whatever the Open /D1 is called, it is essentially an Open playoff with 2 winners. Benefits the top 2 teams in NCS at the expense of the entire rest of the NCS.
The NCS cannibalizing their best teams is just stupid.

Meanwhile NCS teams that had half ass seasons still playing.

How about in the future if u win your 1st round games in the OPEN/D1 you automatically get a State play in game nomination.

Play the final 4 out so there is a 1-4 true seeding.

Then winner: NCS Open rep
2. D1 AA
3. D1 A
4. D2AA

Or maybe a level lower with each depending on who's coming out of the other Norcal sections.

But either way 4 should come out of the NCS Open.

Riordan's Big Moment

Los Gatos did an excellent job defensively against a Serra offense that sputtered and malfunctioned throughout much of Saturday's contest in San Mateo. The inefficient Padres have been limited all year by a very mediocre passing attack and by penalties and turnovers at key moments. All of that was on full display vs. LG. Riordan is a different kettle of fish. LG is a clear underdog next Saturday. It will take a monumental effort to subdue the Crusaders. It's possible but seems unlikely.
Agree!…. They both Lost to PITT by similar margins and both beat Serra by similar margins with Los Gatos giving up less points and scoring less points in those games and Riordan the opposite….

Soquel is the other common opponent I know of with LG winning a close one and Riordan Blowing their doors off in the playoffs….

It will be a matchup of the Los Gatos Defense vs Riordan offense, can LG make plays on defense and slow Riordan down?….

Riordan has the Talent advantage and will be the clear favorite…. Looking forward to the game!….

If I do the Pick’em this week my pick will be Riordan…. 🤣

Riordan's Big Moment

Riordan should beat los Gatos

If they show up

Riordan has scored at least 27 points in every game this year but one (vchs game)

Los Gatos or any other ccs team won't stop them from scoring

The reason they have won 5 in a row is because they defense

Points given up the last 5 games

7 versus bell
13 vs mitty
14 vs Serra
17 vs st frances
7 vs soquel

The first 6 games they gave up

34 to Mack
42 to st bon
56 to Pitt
34 to schp
31 to sicp
31 to vchs

Shout out to coach Mitchell and the staff for correcting the defense and turning around the season for ar

I mean they got 17 D1 prospects eventually talent was going to prevail once they got the ship going in the right direction

Riordan's Big Moment

With all that talent, Riordan is the last team I would want to play right now in the CCS playoffs…. They seem to have found their stride….

Should be a fantastic matchup with Los Gatos!….

Riordan's Big Moment

The time is now. Followers of the Crusaders' football program have been waiting for three years for this moment. The team is on the brink of a significant accomplishment. If it can defeat Los Gatos next weekend in the CCS Division I playoffs, it will then play for a section championship and a slot in the CIF NorCal playoffs. The Crusaders dismantled Soquel on Saturday. That followed big WCAL wins vs. Serra and St. Francis. Riordan is finally playing up to its talent level. That's a scary thought. The Riordan roster, though not especially deep, is bursting with big-time individual star power. Until now, it has clearly under-performed. But the outlook has turned brighter, mainly because the defense has been shored up and mistakes are being kept to a minimum. Crusader backers are on a high _ with fingers crossed.

I meant shouldn’t as they have WCAL schools plus a few publics who on a yearly basis are competitive with each other.
They do…. This year there was 5 WCAL teams in the Open/D1 and 3 public’s…. One of the Public’s Los Gatos, knocked off Serra in D1….

Soquel and Salinas were the other 2 public’s who lost, Salinas in the Open to SI and Soquel in D1 to Riordan….

Damn thats a name from the past. I forgot he died. Great player.
Great indeed. If he didn’t have his knee issues at Norte Dame, he would have been a nice NFL HB. Derrick Henry-esque.

They had a ceremony for him at Moreau and I gave his family a copy of the game film of our ‘85 Salesian vs Moreau game. He ran for a record 350+ yards against us and we still almost won. It was in the front page of USA Today the next morning.

Moreau had a great HB right before him too—Mike Salido (BMX stud/BYU).

Their Moreau teammate, Chad Nightengale (WR/Cal), is the HC/AD at Salesian now.

Playoff Scoreboard (November 15-16)

CN is actually not in The Open bracket, they are in the NCS D1 bracket so they are playing SRV in the D1 Semi Final….

The Winner of DLS vs PITT is the Open Champ, the loser of that game drops down into the D1 Final to play the winner of SRV vs CN….

Open Bracket = 1 vs 8 and 2 vs 7, the winners play for the open title….

D1 Bracket = seeds 3 Vs 6 and 4 vs 5, the winners of those games move on to D1 Semifinals and The Winner plays the Loser of the Open game for D1 title….

It’s a confusing and dumb set up in my opinion but designed so the NCS doesn’t send thier 2nd best team home….. The CCS is the same set up now as well….

CCS should have a system like that.
NCS D1/Open is weird but 35 straight years without DLS losing to an NCS team means you have to get creative. I’ll admit that. The drop off after Pitt to SRV and CN is probably a few scores as well.

We could see a rainy slate of games next week which could be interesting.
The CCS does have the same Open/D1 format…..

It’s SF vs SI for The Open Championship…. The Loser drops down to D1 to play the winner of Riordan vs Los Gatos for the D1 Title….

Haha.. I say you in a few cardinal 4 life videos as well. LT played a great game. Good adj by coach sanchez to get the ball out of his hands quicker. SRV is tough. QB is a stud and LB Jones will be best player they've seen all year. But we aren't so shabby either.

Does anybody know if you have to get to the champ game of the open to get an "AT Large"? I want to say the loser of the open NCS will still be playing?

MC is a hell of a team. They did get super tight on offensive play calling and Newman figured out they could run consistently. I'm curious what total offense looked like for MC minus the 66 yard TD run early.

Los Gatos 14, Serra 7

Maybe not. But Serra has had two strong frosh classes in a row, this year and last. There are playmakers on those two rosters. They will have a big impact in 2025, and 2026 for sure. But we shall see.

Sure but there is some context to that. Riordan and SHC have no freshmen teams and so you’d have to compare their freshmen team to Riordan and SHC’s JV team. At the same time, SI takes any experienced freshmen to JV or Varsity. None of the three schools were pulling like Serra so they decided to get a little innovative to help bridgen the gap.

I saw Serra’s Sophomore team play Riordan’s and it was more competitive than the score would suggest. Serra #1 playing a triple hold back (who w
Serra had lost one game in NorCal for four years, with 3 straight open appearances.

I think naturally people thought it would continue, it may of just been a great class.

Either way serra had a down year but they should be back to to they usual 9 or so wins they was before they run.

They got alot of good young players coming back, coach Walsh a great coach, they simply need to grow

Serra does it organically with just recruiting, they don't do the transfer thing really. So it's hard to build a dominant team yearly.

They should be better next year

Recruiting and Organically completely contradict each other.
