WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

At half, Im sure you were beating your chest and you should. Defensively it just looked like SI had all the answers and Lancers just looked stunned that they could not run the ball. 2nd half blocking adjustments took care of that, plus SI's defense wore down. Dont have the overall statistics but it sure looked like SF time of possession for the game was 80%.

And that should do it as far as WCAL POY. Kingston definitely will take those honors. In a high stakes game like this, your team's best player needs to show up. Kingston in the 2nd half was phenomenal. Hummel was pretty bad. And thats just being nice. He was 7 for 17 for 14 yards. FOURTEEN passing yards!!!

Ive watched enough of his games and sure enough, he still cant throw over the top. He only throws timed 10 yard out routes to Polk or Shelton and really good teams know that and sit on those routes. Robinson of St. Francis did that and picked him off. Hummel needs to be better or whoever is calling the plays need to call better/different plays.

Looking forward to a rematch in CCS Open.

Unfortunately, I would have to agree with your take on our MVP QB Hummel. Throwing for 14 yards in a big game against SF is unacceptable.

Hence, why he’s going to a D3 school and St. Francis’ MVP is going to D1 Power BYU.

Hopefully, I’m hoping SI gets back on track this Friday with a win against VC.

WCAL Week Five

Honestly last year SH has zero shot at beating SI mainly because their defense last season was porous. Early on in non-league for this season it appeared the players were not going to repeat the the lack of physicality on defense with a good win vs run heavy SH Prep. However, the following week vs Wilcox showed severe regression as Wilcox ran all day and all night.

SH turned it around with COMPETITIVE showings vs Serra, Mitty, and VC. I would handicap the matchup vs SI for SH as +14.5 underdogs. They will lose if they dont contain Hogan and Malone. Defensively SH is very solid in the secondary as far as covering WR but stopping the run is their achilles heal.

Also a huge factor is whether or not the come out of this week's game vs St. Francis with no injuries. Lancers have a lot of big players and they are super physical and SH has no depth and cannot afford to lose anymore players. They are already without 2 of their best linemen (#99 Bellamy and #54 Forks).

Yeah, I don’t think the Bruce-Mahoney game will be close. SI takes it 45-14

Parent/Coach/Administration Conflict at Sheldon

Is Chris Nixon out at Sheldon? Beloved coach ordered to turn in keys after angry parent issue

Longtime Sheldon Huskies coach Chris Nixon on Monday afternoon was ordered into the principal’s office to speak with administrators and athletic director Jason Bumbaca to address a situation following last Friday’s home Delta League contest against Elk Grove. A father of a Sheldon player, moments after the game finished, allegedly approached Nixon in anger and cursed at him about playing time for his son, an issue in prep sports for decades.

According to several witnesses who observed the incident, including three Sheldon assistant coaches and several players, Nixon was upset that there was no school administrator at that moment to prevent the scene, or to keep spectators from walking onto the field to reach coaches. Bumbaca arrived to speak to Nixon, and the two got into a heated exchanged about fan access to the field.

Nixon on Monday was told he could not curse the athletic director and was ordered to turn in his keys. Was he fired? Suspended? No one seems to know. Reached by The Sacramento Bee, Nixon said he was not allowed to speak about it, nor was he allowed to talk to Sheldon players, as mandated by his administration.

Nixon did emphatically tell The Bee that he did not curse Bumbaca and that he doesn’t even curse in practice or at games. He added that he is deeply “appreciative for all my players and our fantastic coaching staff,” adding that he wants to finish out the season. An assistant coach said Nixon did not curse the athletic director but that he himself cursed in frustration.

What division are CN and Marin Catholic in NCS for the playoffs this season?

If CN runs the table they will be in the OPEN and most likely get a home game 1st round. Of course that's still a HUGE question as they have to get by both San Marin and Marin Catholic (at MC) and as we all know CN hasn't exactly had the best results against MC in the Sanchez era or in fact thIs CENTURY. Still lots to decide on the field!

That's something I always thought to be lazy when making a team nickname, just throwing "Lady" in front of the girls/women's teams' name. But sometimes it's hard to do a different name for female teams, a lot make no sense unless they go with a name that has absolutely nothing to do with the boys' team names.

After all, which is a worse name? Lady Tigers or Tigresses? I don't know; I give both names about a 1 out of 10.

I do have some faves, tho... I intensely dislike U$C, but "Women of Troy" is one of the most awesome womens' team nicknames in sports.

Grants Pass, OR, quite near the Oregon Caves, has boys' teams named the Cavemen. I'm REALLY happy they didn't go with "Lady Cavemen" for their girls' teams... They are the Cavewomen.

It’s very likely Rivers makes just as much doing those podcasts, maybe more than any team would be willing to offer him with a current contract. There are a lot of guys that could still play but now chose to do other things since the money is actually better. Also they don’t have to spend as much time on the road away from their families.

Rivers made close to 60 mil in his career. Regardless of his skill and who gave him the contract, that is still a ton of money that any person could easily retire on.

Did you just say see Austin Rivers? Could you possibly have a worse take than that. He was thr consensus national high school player of the year and dukes leading scorer as a freshman. He got his accolades on his own.
Austin Rivers did earn his way to the league. The talent and skill was there. No disputing that. The argument for him was after his rookie deal expired, there was no team out there that was going to sign him for anything more than a vet min because he was seen as not a rotational player. Enter his father, who happened to be also Clippers GM as well as head coach, gave him a 3 yr/36M deal which NO OTHER NBA team was goin going to give him. And we can say "how do you know that no other team would"? Well, its 10/23/24, Austin still is consider to be in his athletic prime, hes 32 years old. Hes been relatively healthy. He aint on any roster. He's out doing podcasts amongst the dozens of other player podcasts (note: im not wasting my time listening to what Austin Rivers has to say).

The facts are he's in the NBA. How he got there, that's always going to be a talking point. Bronny is just one of many examples of "He is there because of his daddy or because he is the brother of" --- see Austin Rivers. See any Antetokuompo who is not Giannis. See Damion Lee. We can talk until we are blue in the face about who doesn't belong. We can be haters about the nepotism and I can bring to light there are many players who sit on the bench and are the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th man and they log countless DNPs who are not offspring of a former players.

It was a cool historical moment and thats all it was. Bronny is likely headed to the G-League because hes not going to get any better sitting on the bench because he is not a rotational player. They got their cameo out of the way last night.

add seth curry to the list.. but you can say all that and wonder why the 2 other greatest to play magic and mike neither had their sons in the league.

just wanted those that claim to be elite talent evaluators to see they were wrong.
i dont think he plays much if at all the rest of the season... but he still is on a roster.. which everyone one of us who laced up Js as a kid dreamed of.
