The ultimate sports nepo baby

Math sucks. I said "late 40's" for LeBron to have a shot at Nepo #2... He's 39 now, so maybe 44 or 45, not super likely, but not impossible.

He has said he thinks he can play until he's 50. As amazing as he is, I definitely doubt that.

Then again, Wilt was allegedly getting offers from pro teams past his 50th... But NBA, probably not.
There is nothing left for him to achieve. He's already left his impact on the game. His next phase in his life ideally he will use his wealth and influence to help areas of need, development, education, and opportunity.

What division are CN and Marin Catholic in NCS for the playoffs this season?

It depends on what Seed they get…. If the Open is the same it’s 1 v 8 and 2 v 7 and the winners play for the Open Title…. The rest of the Seeds are in D1…..

So if CN is 3-6 they would be in the D1 Bracket and could make a run but would still have to deal with SRV and Either PITT or DLS if they get by SRV…..

CN is currently Ranked #4 in NCS behind DLS, PITT and SRV…..
Exactly! So if CN ends up #3, they’d get a home game vs #6, and then would host most likely SRV, with the winner playing the DLS/Pitt loser for the D1 title and NorCal berth. If they end up #4, then the 2nd round would be at SRV.

Still a lot of football to be played, but I see DLS as the #1 seed, Pitt the #2, & SRV a lock for the #3 & #4. If CN runs the table, they’d likely be in the #3 or #4 slot. The rest of the field is likely to come from Cal, Liberty, Amador Valley, and maybe CVC, MV or MC in the dreaded #8 seed to open at DLS. If Heritage beats Freedom this week, they’d take Freedom’s place.

What division are CN and Marin Catholic in NCS for the playoffs this season?

Newman needs to stay away from the Open, it’s only 2 rounds and would have to play DLS or Pitt in the first round. It’d be 1 and done. Put them in D2

CN won't have a choice if they run the table. They'd be NCS Open bound and they wouldn't get DLS or Pitt in the 1st round as they are currently sitting at 4 behind DLS,PItt and SRV in the rankings. CN would get 1 home game at least. Im not sure who would be 5 as it looked like it would be El Cerrito but now with the forfeits not sure.

Again..CN still has to beat SM and MC and that is going to be tough to do. At MC on a Saturday during the day (instead of under the lights on a friday)is such a screwball/different type home game. I think it's a big home field advantage for MC. IMO...
MC Day games are the absolute worse. Its like old Jesuit. Huge advantage too like you said.
And yes Newman wouldn't get DLS or Pitt until round 2. Round 1 could be a California High or Liberty Type.
Would love to see a Newman/SRV game.

PCAL week 9

PCAL Week 9

Before we get too far into this week’s preview wanted to share a great story about the King City head coach, and what he has done over the past year to support his family and his community. A great story about a really great man. Sometimes Highschool football is not about the wins and losses on the field.

https://www.montereyherald.com/2024/10/20/high-school-football-a-different-kind-of-comeback-story/

Last week 9-3 Overall 97-29

Gabilan- Some interesting story lines are starting to develop in the Gabilan. It appears Soquel and Salinas are destined for a title matchup on 11/1. Monterey seems to have secured at least third place, while Hollister, Aptos and Palma battle for 4th through 6th. PAL Booster says Palma is basically in the playoffs, but he has them at 5-5, I think they finish 4-6. Will that be enough for the final at-large bid? Maybe? Or does the steak end this year. Hopefully the PCAL will let Alvarez go down to a “B” division for a year or 2 in order to build some consistency.

Thu 10/24 Aptos (CA) at Alvarez (Salinas, CA), 7:00pm – Maybe Alvarez last best shot to win a league game. Also seems odd that Alvarez has to ply 3 Thursdays in a row, while Palma and Monterey don’t have any Thursday night games. Aptos needs to win to stay in the playoffs. Aptos 38-7

Fri 10/25 Soquel (CA) at Monterey (CA), 7:30pm
- Potential trap here for Soquel. Monterey has some huge playmakers and they have been running the ball well lately. Soquel will do what they always do: dictate the pace of the game, control the line of scrimmage, and clamp down on defenses. Soquel 28-14

Fri 10/25 Arroyo Grande (CA) at Salinas (CA), 7:30pm- 2 schools of thought here: Great to keep the team rolling with a late out of section game against an historically strong program. Or what the hell are you thinking, take the bye get healthy and get ready for the biggest game of the year. If they beat Soquel in 2 weeks genius, if they lose worst scheduling decision ever. Salinas 28-24

Fri 10/25 Palma (Salinas, CA) vs Hollister (CA) at Salinas Sports Complex (Salinas, CA), 7:30pm-
I view this (or next week vs Monterey) as an absolute must win for Palma to ensure a post season invite. Problem is, Hollister might be the better team this year. Hollister 27-21

Mission North (Watsonville Bye) -
After a couple weeks of chaos, maybe some clarity in the Mission North. NMC will be favored over the next 3 weeks and should win the division. Alisal had a big win last week and will also be favored over the next 3 weeks to finish second. But don’t be surprised if either one of these teams’ falters and allows St Francis, MVC or Scott’s Valley to sneak into the playoffs.

Thu 10/24 Scotts Valley (CA) vs St. Francis (Watsonville, CA) at Cabrillo College (Aptos, CA), 7:30pm- Winner still can have an outside chance of playoffs, loser of this game is probably out. St Francis has been more consistent, but Scott’s Vally has played the tougher schedule. St. Francis 21-18

Fri 10/25 North Monterey County (Castroville, CA) at Monte Vista Christian (Watsonville, CA), 7:30pm-
MVC QB and WR1 have some staggering numbers. Like leaders in the CCS and state. Congratulations to them. But NMC is 3-0 in division and probably going to the playoff’s. NMC 27-17

Fri 10/25 Alisal (Salinas, CA) at Seaside (CA), 7:30pm
- Alisal had a goal line stand to win last week, probably wont be as close this week. Alisal 27-7

Mission South (PG Bye) –
North Salinas took care of Business vs KC last week to set up a battle for first this week vs Carmel. Carmel did allow Ranch to score a season high 14 points last week, but it was in the 2nd half after they took a 41-0 lead into halftime. We will see if NS can really give them a battle. PG, lost for the 2nd time in a row vs Soledad. This sets up Soledad to challenge NS for a playoff spot in 2 weeks.

Fri 10/25 King City (CA) at Rancho San Juan (Salinas, CA), 7:30pm -Rancho may have found something to build on by scoring some touchdowns last week, meanwhile KC will look to get off the mat after being beat up by North Salinas. King City 24-7

Fri 10/25 Greenfield (CA) at Soledad (CA), 7:30pm
- I can already smell the Swiss sausage. Leno’s vs Richina (if you know you know). As far as football: Soledad needs to win if it want to try an overtake NS for 2nd place. Soledad 28-24

Sat 10/26 North Salinas (Salinas, CA) at Carmel (CA), 2:00pm -
Carmel can not let NS successfully control the clock. NS has 2 offenses one of them being a Wing T formation to try and control the line of scrimmage. The QB is still hurt so they will be trying to run a lot. It may work, But Carmel’s Starting defense is pretty good. Carmel will be able to score. Carmel 42-21

Santa Lucia (RLS BYE) -
I understand why RLS starts late because of the boarding school deal, but schedule a game during the bye week for 10 total games. Mission is SF has an open date. Anyway after RLS took care of PV and SLV pulled away from Gonzales late, this should set up a battle for the title next week. @Streakone, RLS needs to go back on the pick’em next week!!! Also of note last week, is Santa Cruz got a win for the first time in 2 years!!

Sat 10/26 Gonzales (CA) at Pajaro Valley (Watsonville, CA), 12:30pm- This game will probably decide third place. Both teams will be looking to get momentum for next year. Gonzales 23-18

Sat 10/26 Santa Cruz (CA) at San Lorenzo Valley (Felton, CA), 2:00pm -
Santa Cruz hada great win last week, but unless SLV is looking to far ahead to next weeks showdown with RLS, the wininig streak will stop at 1. SLV 35-7

Sat 10/26 Marina (CA) vs Harbor (Santa Cruz, CA) at Seaside (CA), 7:30pm
-2 Struggling programs trying to find something to build upon for next year. Neither one really believes in Defense. Marina 45-40

Pleasant Valley TE Gavin Garretson flips to Arkansas

Miles Fishback (of Durham HS) is an assistant at Arkansas too. So the local connection probably helped get the ball rolling.

And while most would prefer to live in San Diego than Arkansas, it would be hard to turn down the SEC for the MWC/Pac-12.
He's a Chico kid also..so maybe he's just not a big city guy and would prefer to live in a town similar to Chico. Plus the SEC vs MWC/Pac12 comparison is fair.

The ultimate sports nepo baby

Yeah, I have an that’s the ticket for him. Play him a tiny bit early to please Daddy, until he and the Flakers realize that he needs minutes against lesser competition in order to improve.

Then, if he does reasonably well there, he might get chances later, esp. if the Flakers bomb out or injuries happen…. or both.

I think Bronny has a chance to eventually be a rotation player, mayyyybe.

Meanwhile, I have heard that Bryce is considered a better prospect. But Daddy will have to still be able to contribute in his late 40’s for any chance of Nepo #2.

As amazing as LeBron is, I have trouble thinking that can happen.
Bryce, I wouldnt say has the talent to be on an NBA roster, but he really does have the better size/body frame to be a rotational 3 or 4. I would not be surprised if Bryce goes and stays in college for at least 2-3 years and collect NIL money, work on his game because his dad's dream/wishes have been fulfilled with playing Bronny. There is no pressure on Bryce to meet lofty expectations. He can just concentrate on being a good basketball player.

What division are CN and Marin Catholic in NCS for the playoffs this season?

its kind of like be careful what you wish for. I think there is a decent probability that Newman runs the table and ends up getting pulled up into D1/Open. They would have a good shot of winning at home but then in round 2 would end up playing a Pitt which would be a bad matchup. This is the year Newman is a legit D2-D3 SBG type team. But deep down I would love to see them play a few games with the big boys.
But I don't take SM or MC lightly like @northbaybbguru said. Lots of football left.

Parent/Coach/Administration Conflict at Sheldon

I've always thought Chris Nixon was one of the better coaches in the Sacramento area. And without knowing any details about this situation outside of what is in the Sacramento Bee article, this seems like an overreaction from the school side.

I don't remember all of the details, but he had a messy exit from Elk Grove too that might have been an overreaction

Folsom vs Centennial 2025

I'll believe it when I actually see it.

While Coach Doherty has scheduled tougher competition than his predecessors, it still hasn't been the program's M.O. to schedule opponents they don't realistically expect to beat.

Scheduling DLS and Serra have been the exceptions, as they stand in their path to an OPEN bid (and even then, I don't believe Folsom expected to lose to Serra back when they scheduled them).

But wrt SoCal and out-of-state opponents, the Bulldogs program has never been very ambitious or adventurous. But perhaps Coach Doherty wants to change that?? If so, he deserves major props for taking on these challenges. We shall see.

Folsom better hope Ryder Lyons isn't reclassifying for this upcoming Spring, otherwise their chances of competing well in that game aren't likely to be so good.
Thunder, Folsom has a JV QB (Brody Rudneke) who would start on 95% of teams in Norcal varsity. He already has a few offers and will pile on a bunch this summer. He's not a Ryder Lyons but he will be a power 5 QB. So the machine still cranks. He's 6"2 190 and can run also. Personally I don't see why Ryder wouldn't leave after this year. He should be a Senior anyway and he is so far advanced as is.

Acalanes 24-25 Schedule

As an Acalanes grad, I know what a Don is ... but the confusion is only exacerbated by putting "Lady" in front of it. It's like a "Lady Ram."

Every Acalanes student is a Don, male or female or whatever. It's not the greatest mascot, granted, but still we're all Dons, even old ones like me.
Techincally, a female is not a don. She would be a dona (with the squggly line above the n). Puttying lady in front of anything is stupid. Campo isn't the male cougars or lady cougars. They should just be cougars.

At UConn both teams are just "Huskies' but at Tennesee, they are the "Lady Vols"...go figure..

Davis High out of SFL for football

There will always be a last place team in every league and sometimes there is a big gap between them and the rest of the league. So I try to have some grace with these realignment decisions. BUT everyone knew that Davis to the SFL was a terrible idea when it was announced. And it didn't even make geographic sense either.

Big picture, the gap between the haves and have nots in HS football is getting bigger by the year and trying to set up leagues/playoffs with that backdrop is getting harder.
