El Cerrito

From the other article:

EL CERRITO – One of the East Bay’s best teams is forfeiting its first six games of the season.

El Cerrito played several ineligible student-athletes during its first half-dozen games, according to an email from principal Malcolm Norrington that sources provided to the Bay Area News Group.

As a result, the Gauchos are vacating wins against Amador Valley, Monterey Trail-Elk Grove, Oakland Tech, Campolindo and St. Mary’s-Berkeley. El Cerrito had also lost to De La Salle.

“The issue originated from a prior CIF: NCS bylaw 202 ruling regarding student ineligibility, which prompted a comprehensive review of the current varsity football roster,” Norrington’s email, dated to Friday, read. “Upon further review, it was determined that certain players were ineligible to participate in the games listed above.”

Norrington’s email concluded by saying that the school is “collaborating with district personnel to address these concerns and improve our enrollment procedures to prevent future occurrences.”

The email did not specify how many ineligible players participated in games.

I'm assuming eligibility from a "move" to that school and not sitting out the appropriate period?

WCAL Week Five

IMO, there are only two significant games this week. I hope I am not being blatantly dismissive of the coaching and team work on the side of Bellarmine and Sacred Heart Cathedral but St. Francis and Serra should dominantly progress to the winning side. There is alway a chance of a SHC or BCP win, but it is truly a long shot.

SF will likely remain undefeated this weekend and for the rest of the league play, although VC and AR might beg to differ.

Likewise, JS should finish the regular season with no more defeats but, similar to SF, VC and AR will beg to differ.

The game between Riordan and Mitty should be more interesting. Both teams are itching to gain footing and this game is a must-win for both teams. For Mitty, they must win to have any chance to make the playoffs. Even with a win, they may still not make the playoffs. And for Riordan, they must win to avoid a potential tie. If I have calculated correctly and all other games fall as presently assumed, a loss will create a 3-way tie at league 5th place between SHC, AR and AM. AR is favored to win but they must focus on defense and gel on offense to assure a victory.

The Valley Christian @ St. Ignatius game is another interesting one. Surprising, VC is undefeated in league so far. But they have the WCAL top 3 teams ahead of them. On the other hand, this likely will be the last challenging game of SI's league play. These teams always match each other well. There have been only a few blow out years, some by SI and some by VC. In the previous 21 regular season games, VC has won 15 times, SI won 5 times with one tie. However, SI has won the last two regular season games. VC has improved significantly in their offensive play this year. SI, though, is still favored to win this one, IMO.
Wondering out loud: Does SHC have a reasonable shot at upsetting SI next week? Tough to get a firm handle on that matchup that began during the Jurassic Age. SI clearly is favored. But SHC is not to be taken lightly at this juncture. They have some nice weapons on offense. Their QB is one of the best in the league. Scratching my dome on this one.

Turlock FR quarterabck Scout Silva is a gamer

As they call them in Folsom, another Super 8 kid!
This kid is a 2X holdback what do they call them?

I’m from this area and have a 14 year old freshman and it gets irritating hearing about how great this “freshman” is. Is he having a great season, yea, but if he was in his correct grade, there would be little talk.

It was recommended to me to holdback my son, who could benefit greatly, by their 7/7 team.

Mistakes in verifying eligible players can be made but rarely does a genuine mistake involve more than one player. Note: mistakes carry the same penalty as blatant action. However, the administrative leave action might suggest a greater malfeasance. In some other cases of forfeits, it was the coach who disclosed the error. It does not sound like the case in this situation.

Santa Cruz snaps 19 game losing streak

As fast as Soquel ascended up the PCAL equity ranks, in 2018 Soquel was in the Santa Lucia, Santa Cruz has almost the same decent.

Santa Cruz was a very good team, wining a CCS D5 Championship in 2019, 2020 -Covid, and dominating the Mission Division in 2021 Before getting a "bad" draw in the CCS DII losing to eventual champion Wilcox. In 2023 they lost some players to graduation and were put up to the Gabilan where they struggled to a 2-8 record. Last year more losses to both graduation and transfers to Soquel. team went like 0-6 on the field plus additional forfeits after being put down tot he Mission South Division. Did not even score a point. It is great to see them get a win this year.

A long rivalry reverses

It began in 1946 during the Truman Administration. It became the oldest Peninsula/South Bay prep football rivalry in the earliest iteration of the region's embryonic Catholic league. Bellarmine vs. Serra was a much-anticipated contest well into the 1970s. It lost some luster as the Bells took charge. They dominated into the 1990s. That has changed. Markedly. Over the last eight seasons, the rivalry has tilted dramatically toward San Mateo. Serra hasn't lost since 2015, a string of eight straight wins by big margins. The difference has been striking. Serra has outscored Bellarmine, 340-40, during that span. When the two schools meet at San Jose City College Friday night, the Padres will be heavily favored again as the winless Bells flounder for the second year in a row in the WCAL. They were 2-8 last year. They are 0-7 now. The Bells, who began playing football well over a century ago as Santa Clara Preparatory, have not gone winless since 1936 when they went 0-6-1. They still lead the all-time series with Serra, 49-31-2. But the tide has turned so stunningly it's difficult for alumni of both schools to fathom how fortunes have been reversed so severely.
Hey Col! You appear to have visibility into Bellarmine's past football performance. How are you accessing this information? Is there a link you can direct me to that shows game results year by year going back to the inception of their program? I'd be curious to see that. Thanks!

I don't know.... One Article is vague and allegations seem more on character yet supporters came out to dispute it. (I couldn't read the other article). In this day and age coaching is nearly impossible at hs level. The peanut gallery is larger and schools are often little support. More so on the public side.

This article doesn't have a paywall, but it also doesn't give many details:

That is too bad for the players. They have been an excellent team under Rincon. Hopefully they can continue their success.

Suggestions for Modifying CCS Play-off rules

Awesome Job as always! A few of us were on the edge of our seats the last 10 days! Glad you have the new playoff system dialed in as well!

Is it too early to tell who the last 5 in or first 5 out would be? In terms of at large spots?
All the teams that do not receive an automatic berth from their league are put into one large pool for at-large consideration. The top 15 teams from that pool with regard to their total CCS points are then considered, with the exception that there can be no more than 6 total (automatic and at-large teams) from any one league. The cal preps rankings are then used with the highest ranked team in this pool getting 15 points and the lowest cal prepared team getting one point. The CCS points are added tot he cal prep points and the top 5 teams are added to the play-off field and placed based on their combined point total and in accordance with other CCS rules governing divisions for A,B anC league teams. After seven weeks the at-large field projects as follows based on my calculations.

Pretty big break between top 4 and numbers 5 and 6. Another big break after that to to 7-9. If Mitty ends up in the top 6 in the WCAL they will replace one of the other WCAL teams. The WCAL can only get two at-large teams and they will be the 1 and 2 teams in the at-large pool. The same holds true between Palma and Hollister as long as they both beat Alvarez.

1. Riordan 4-6 31 CCS + 15 Cal preps = 46
2. Sacred Heart Cathedral 4-6 26.5 CCS + 14 Cal preps = 40.5
3. Hollister 5-5 23,5 CCS + 13 Cal preps = 36.5
4. Aptos 5-5 23.33 CCS + 12 Cal preps = 35.33
5. Sacred Heart Prep 3-7 20.33 CCS + 11 Cal preps = 31.33
6. Carlmont 6-4 21 CCS + 10 Cal preps = 31
7. Hillsdale 4-6 18 CCS + 9 Cal preps = 27
8. Soledad 6-4 18 CCS + 8 Cal preps = 26
9. Milpitas 6-4 19 CCS + 7 Cal preps = 26
10. Leland 5-5 17.7 CCS + 6 Cal preps = 23.7

Other 5 teams in pool are Leigh, Lincoln, Monte Vista Christian, Silver Creek. and Pacific Grove.

Suggestions for Modifying CCS Play-off rules

WCAL

St. Francis replaced SI as the favorite to win the league based on their 27-13 win this week. VC and St. Francis are the leagues only two undefeated teams. Serra nd SI are projected to win the third and fourth automatic spots with Riordan and Sacred Heart Cathedral projected to both get at-large bids.
I'm sure this league description will be corrected in next week's post, but I believe SF and SI are slated for #1 and #2 slots. It is Serra and VC that will likely fill the third and fourth slots.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

Not defending Regalia, I was merely pointing out facts. Sorry if the truth offends you. Sue me. Or blow me, I’m cool with either.

Regalia had more winning seasons in the his last 10 years than Riordan had playoff appearance in that same amount of time lol. Hell, I think Regalia won more games in his second season (not by his second season) than any of the six previous coaches before Ravipati ever did before the got canned LMAO! And the fact remains that Regalia stepped down. While he may not be a legend, he sure as hell was an SI legend and his job was not remotely in jeopardy. Had he wanted to remain coaching, Vandermade would still be in SoCal.

Everything I’m saying is fact, there’s no debate anywhere. My whole argument was that SI’s Football Program was much more stable when Lenny took it over than Riordan’s was when Adhir took it over.
Fake news. Do your homework while you chew on mi verga!
