Nike TOC a down year?

I went to watch Mitty-GRC (Kentucky) at 9am and I got the 4th quarter only. I guess Arizona is the Mountain Time Zone so it would be 8am PST. I have been unable to find a final score (not listed on screen nor do they show the scoreboard at the end of the game). The Monarchs were playing nearly all reserves in the last period so I would speculate that they had the lead.

NCS open-division 3 seedings

I don't see how moreau could get there in the rankings. They play in a weak league and chose to use 4 non league games in hawaii against seemingly weak competition there too. They do have 5 non-league games left so if they roll the table on that and those teams all turn out to be pretty good then maybe but I don't see it happening. More likely to be a top seed in D2

Transfer Portal Era: FCS or Junior College for FBS Aspirations?

I have always thought about it in terms of finances. One can go to a juco for free. If the FCS offer is a full boat, then go to the FCS school. There are more than a few NorCal student-athletes that have gone juco out of high school and then went on to big time FBS football. Obviously it is a small percentage. But for the overwhelming majority of student-athletes looking to continue playing beyond HS, juco is usually the best route, and for two main reasons: 1- Juco is free, 2- the offer coming out of juco will be significantly better than the offer out of HS.

Is CalPreps Wrong?

The same effect happened in a microcosm back when the SJS was strictly divided by North and South playoff brackets. The two, three, or even four best teams in that division might all be on one side of the bracket due to geography. There were many times that the City Championship (North semi-final) was the best match-up in D1. If that scenario were in place now, Oak Ridge would never have made it to the finals.

NCS open-division 3 seedings

-If O'Dowd wins their league they have an argument to be in the Open regradless of their record. They play a usually tough schedule.
-Clayton Valley without Perryman means they are probably out of the discussion.
-How in the world do you have Moreau Catholic in the open? They have had better teams not make the open.
-Redwood will have shot also to get in, they were ranked high last year and return almost everyone and added TT
-Ygancio Valley and St. Mary's Berkeley also have shot to get in the open.

The rest of the list and divisions will depend on what the NCS does with the Open
No debate about B Odowd - let’s see if that happens

Agree about Clayton

Moreau has couple bad showings vs DV and O Tech. Sandwiched in between those games is a victory over Modesto. Moreau has a high ceiling with the players on their roster, that are actually playing (not hypothetically) . Seasoned coach! Currently who belongs in the open over Moreau ? Let’s see another team step up and will replace em.

Redwood will be in the open with Carr. Right now he is not on the floor and we expect better from the rest of the unit.

Yv stays healthy they do have a shot to get in. St Mary’s beat yv seems practical for them to have a shot at the open

Sac State Football hiring Michael Vick!

Sac State is not a final destination coaching school. Not sure what the term would be. Transitory school? Anyway,
Troy Taylor had success and moved on. Brennan Marion is highly regarded and if he shows promise he will be gone.

If you really think about it, there are really only maybe a dozen or so true final destination colleges. Every other college, for the most part, is transitory.

Sac State is simply trying to climb the list of transitory college programs. If they are able to build these new facilities and join FBS, they can put themselves in position to leapfrog a lot of FCS and lower-level FBS programs ahead of them now. Then see where they can go from there.

Remember, back in 1995 Boise State was in the same conference Sac State is now. By 2008 the Broncos were upsetting Oklahoma in a memorable bowl game. And today they are a top 4 seed in the upcoming 12 team tournament while featuring a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Is CalPreps Wrong?

This is easy to explain, simply look at the playoff systems in the South and North and the disparity of level of teams which face each other as the level of the games decline. It's not apples to apples. Only 1 of the top 10 down south move on (and the domino effect from that across the entire southern section), while in the north you have teams which lose moving on in some cases and a widespread effort to get as many of its best teams to state. CalPreps, while not error proof, is pretty darn good.

Look at SJS for example, if the SS model was used, Grant would have been in the Open and lost to Folsom and not advanced to state. This goes on, on a much wider scale throughout the North.
Not sure why this even needed to be explained but great job high lighting the obvious.

Sac State Football hiring Michael Vick!

I’m pretty intrigued by Marion. Should run a fun and high scoring offense and recruits well. My concern is he has also moved around a lot

Sac State Football hiring Michael Vick!

Of course I didn't think Vick was ever in the ring for the job. C'mon man. What i said is exactly what happened, and sac state football guys and AD had no clue. Vick grew up in that area of VA. Tough place. Same area as Allen Iverson. He was always going to be at Norfolk.

Then how exactly did Sac State’s President get played? As I said before, you’re not making sense here.

Vick wasn’t in serious contention, with both the President and AD immediately going on record to deny the rumors that he was being hired, yet you follow up by saying that Sac State’s “prez” got played by Vick agent.

Furthermore, nothing has come to light to suggest that the President and AD were anything but in lock step here.

I’m going to go ahead and say, no, what you said didn’t exactly happen. Only partially.

A Different CIF Option

I think HS Football is going to eventually adopt a similar model to College Football: 12 teams seeded, top 4 get byed, first 4 games are at home sites, quarter finals at home, semi finals at one venue, finals at one venue

A tournament would look something like this if it occurred this year

1 - Mater Dei Plays winner of 8-9

8 St Frances Academy (MD)
9 Archbishop Spalding (MD)

2 - Milton (GA) Plays winner of 7-10

7 Duncanville (TX)
10 Chaminade-Maradona (FL)

3 - Bishop Gorman (NV) Plays winner of 6-11

6 St John Bosco (CA)
11 Westlake (TX)

4 - N Crowley (TX) Players winner of 5-12

5 Carrloton (GA)
12 Buford (GA)

Semi Finals: Eagle Stadium (Allen, TX)

Finals: Autzen Stadium (Eugene, OR)

Travel wouldn’t be too crazy. But I think this is the model that needs to be adopted in order for there to be a legitimate National Champion in HS Football
Not going to happen because states all operate differently.

Is CalPreps Wrong?

So this year, 75% of the top 100 teams from CalPreps are in Southern California. I imagine it has been like this in past years. Yet Northern California schools are leading (pretty significantly) in the number of state titles won. So why aren't more Northern California schools ranked in the Top 100 by CalPreps? Seems like 75% of the state titles should be won by SoCal schools since 75% of their teams are in the Top 100. Is there something in the CalPreps algorithm that favors Southern California schools? Maybe the Southern California Open, D1 and D2 type schools are often better than the Northern California Open, D1 and D2 schools, but Northern California is superior on the lower than D2 (or D3) level? And since there are more lower than D2/3 title games that is why Northern California leads in the "who has won most state title game" tally. Or maybe it is as simple as there is just that there are more schools in Southern California. Any thoughts?
