Prep 2Prep Tip Off Grades

Here are my grades based on the games I watched yesterday. (I skipped out for a early dinner during Sheldon vs Army Navy).

Manteca- B+ (Has some work to do but a solid group with great Size and Kenny Wooten)
St Marys- D (Over matched for these type of events)
O'Dowd- C (Definitely a work in progress, good pieces, will improve)
Dublin- C (Not much outside of Falls, beat a struggling O'Dowd. Will struggle vs comp)
Modesto Chrstn- B (Looked out of sync but always good come playoff time)
Folsom- A- (Well coached, great guards. Enough Said)
Newark M- C (Over achieving team)
Woodcreek- B+ (Huge upside)
Moreau- A (Big time performance on big stage. Please Give Coach Knight his due!!!)
Sierra Canyon- C (Overhyped. Not their fault blame the "rankers")

SJS D-3 prediction....

So here's my prediction on how this Friday's semis will go down
Oakdale-20
Inderkum-28
After watching both squads, Oakdale will struggle against a bigger, faster Inderkum team that still has the bitter taste of losing that title game last year to this same Oakdale squad....
Placer-23
Central Catholic-35
Key here is Placer's run game, as they have to grind this one out and move the chains in order keep that CC offensive attack to limited possessions..CC is just to difficult to defend because of their ability to pass the ball with high efficiency when teams try to stack the box trying to stop their run game...

MIGHTY MITE craziness in SONOMA COUNTY

The Sonoma county MIGHTY MITE BOWL.... Windsor Knights Vs Santa rosa stallions recently was played.

And what resulted is one example of true ugliness in youth sports.
Remember that the mighty mite level is 7-9 yrs old....

The Windsor squad won the game in a close battle....I want to say 47-42 but not entirely sure.

The SR stallions are alleging unsportsmanlike conduct on the Windsor coach stemming from the coaches intervention on an injured SR player in the 2nd quarter. The Windsor coach is a licensed physician (EX TEAM DR FOR THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS!!! AND CURRENT TEAM DR FOR CARDINAL NEWMAN HS!!!)) He went onto the field to tend to an injured SR player who was on the ground for 10 + minutes. He suggested that the child be transported to the local hospital for x rays. The x rays were luckily negative and the child was OK.

BUT what happened next is the crazy part.

The SR stallions are contending that the coach maliciously recommended the Xray in an attempt to gain an advantage in the game as the player was SR best player. They contend they were forced to comply with the directive as the coach was the highest level of care at the time. DONT FORGET THESE ARE 7-9 YR OLDS.

A board hearing has been scheduled next week to address the accusations.

Bear in mind that this DR is a VERY well respected DR and member of the community. Who volunteered his time as an assistant coach with the Windsor squad.

And now he has to deal with his character, integrity and reputation being challenged because he suggested a child be taken to the hospital.

Shame on the adults in the SR Stallions organization....unbelievable.

MC vs MC---NCS D4 Semi

Hell of a game in Kentfield today, Moreau jumped out to a 13-0 lead in 1st only to see Marin score 17 unanswered to take 17-13 lead at half. Marin scored early on long QB run 1st play but Moreau battled back with safety and touchdown to cut lead to 24-21. Marin wins 31-27, good game. Both Moreau and Fortuna showed they belong on field with CN and MC. D4 division was most competitive.

Lillard, Lin, Johnson: Unlikely NBA players

Was looking at Norcal guys currently in the NBA and 3 stood out as guys who I never in a million years would have pegged as NBA players when they were local high schoolers. Damian Lillard, Jeremy Lin and Tyler Johnson. Lillard has obviously separated himself as a legit Superstar in the league but looking back at all 3 of these guys in high school, they were very good local players but you are LYING if you say you saw this coming.

Leads me to my question, who's next?

Maybe a current college player from Norcal already starting to exceed expectations or a sleeper pick who's still in high school but you think might have a chance to crank it up a few notches and put themselves on the NBA radar in a few years. And don't respond with "Josh Jackson" LOL. Not a local and duh...

Side note. By my count, there are currently 9 "local" players on NBA rosters: Lillard (Blazers), Lin (Hornets), Johnson (Heat), Aaron Gordon (Magic), Matt Barnes (Grizzlies), Ryan Anderson (Pelicans), Jared Cunningham (Cavs), Drew Gooden (Wizards) & Festus Ezeli (Warriors). Chuck Hayes just got cut by the Rockets. Jabari Brown and Brandon Ashley were training camp cuts but could end up back on rosters this season.

OAK RIDGE @ ELK GROVE SJS D1 SEMIFINAL

Let me first say that I have seen Elk Grove on film and they are really good. They have size and a very talented running back. Elk Grove is currently #92 in the country, #9 in the state, 12-0 overall, and a 42-7 win over Grant.
But, a strength of schedule rating of 24 (same as Napa). Oak Ridge #212, state #24,10-2 overall,SOS is 37. and also very good. Why is Elk Grove rated so high and a 41-27 favorite to beat Oak Ridge?
