MIGHTY MITE craziness in SONOMA COUNTY

The Sonoma county MIGHTY MITE BOWL.... Windsor Knights Vs Santa rosa stallions recently was played.

And what resulted is one example of true ugliness in youth sports.
Remember that the mighty mite level is 7-9 yrs old....

The Windsor squad won the game in a close battle....I want to say 47-42 but not entirely sure.

The SR stallions are alleging unsportsmanlike conduct on the Windsor coach stemming from the coaches intervention on an injured SR player in the 2nd quarter. The Windsor coach is a licensed physician (EX TEAM DR FOR THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS!!! AND CURRENT TEAM DR FOR CARDINAL NEWMAN HS!!!)) He went onto the field to tend to an injured SR player who was on the ground for 10 + minutes. He suggested that the child be transported to the local hospital for x rays. The x rays were luckily negative and the child was OK.

BUT what happened next is the crazy part.

The SR stallions are contending that the coach maliciously recommended the Xray in an attempt to gain an advantage in the game as the player was SR best player. They contend they were forced to comply with the directive as the coach was the highest level of care at the time. DONT FORGET THESE ARE 7-9 YR OLDS.

A board hearing has been scheduled next week to address the accusations.

Bear in mind that this DR is a VERY well respected DR and member of the community. Who volunteered his time as an assistant coach with the Windsor squad.

And now he has to deal with his character, integrity and reputation being challenged because he suggested a child be taken to the hospital.

Shame on the adults in the SR Stallions organization....unbelievable.

MC vs MC---NCS D4 Semi

Hell of a game in Kentfield today, Moreau jumped out to a 13-0 lead in 1st only to see Marin score 17 unanswered to take 17-13 lead at half. Marin scored early on long QB run 1st play but Moreau battled back with safety and touchdown to cut lead to 24-21. Marin wins 31-27, good game. Both Moreau and Fortuna showed they belong on field with CN and MC. D4 division was most competitive.

Lillard, Lin, Johnson: Unlikely NBA players

Was looking at Norcal guys currently in the NBA and 3 stood out as guys who I never in a million years would have pegged as NBA players when they were local high schoolers. Damian Lillard, Jeremy Lin and Tyler Johnson. Lillard has obviously separated himself as a legit Superstar in the league but looking back at all 3 of these guys in high school, they were very good local players but you are LYING if you say you saw this coming.

Leads me to my question, who's next?

Maybe a current college player from Norcal already starting to exceed expectations or a sleeper pick who's still in high school but you think might have a chance to crank it up a few notches and put themselves on the NBA radar in a few years. And don't respond with "Josh Jackson" LOL. Not a local and duh...

Side note. By my count, there are currently 9 "local" players on NBA rosters: Lillard (Blazers), Lin (Hornets), Johnson (Heat), Aaron Gordon (Magic), Matt Barnes (Grizzlies), Ryan Anderson (Pelicans), Jared Cunningham (Cavs), Drew Gooden (Wizards) & Festus Ezeli (Warriors). Chuck Hayes just got cut by the Rockets. Jabari Brown and Brandon Ashley were training camp cuts but could end up back on rosters this season.

Kevin Anderson - Sr. LB out of Palo Alto High [starter]

Notre Dame:

OAK RIDGE @ ELK GROVE SJS D1 SEMIFINAL

Let me first say that I have seen Elk Grove on film and they are really good. They have size and a very talented running back. Elk Grove is currently #92 in the country, #9 in the state, 12-0 overall, and a 42-7 win over Grant.
But, a strength of schedule rating of 24 (same as Napa). Oak Ridge #212, state #24,10-2 overall,SOS is 37. and also very good. Why is Elk Grove rated so high and a 41-27 favorite to beat Oak Ridge?

CRUSH IN THE VALLEY coming January 29-31st. Top players in Country coming to Norcal.

GrindFlyerPAGE.jpg

Coming January 29-31st is the "Crush in the Valley". This is a first year event that will be held at Napa Valley College. Some people are saying this event will have the most talent to ever come to the NorCal area. This is a must see event. We are happy to have local team Bishop O'Dowd battle against Jarrad Vanderbilt and Victory Prep (TX) as part of the event.

The event will include:
Josh Jackson #1 2016 in Country
Deandre Ayton #1 2017 in Country
Thon Maker #1 2016 in Canada (considered top 1-3 in USA if were able to be ranked)
Rawle Alkins #9 2016 in Country
Jarrad Vanderbildt #5 2017 in Country
Jaylen Hands #31 2017 in Country
Abu Kigab #1 2017 in Canada

Lots of potential NBA Lottery picks will be on hand. Schedule is listed above. Hope to see everyone there to celebrate the talent and major media coming to Northern California that weekend to Napa, CA. VIP Packages and floor seating/VIP Access are available on demand (contact info@prolificprep.org)

CCS playoff competition for NorCal regional games

So, we have the final pecking order for potential advancement to the NorCal regionals as runner-ups (provided I have the playoff point numbers correct).

1. St. Francis
2. Palma
3. Bellarmine
4. Oak Grove
5. Monte Vista Christian
6. Milpitas
7. Burlingame/Live Oak
9. Monte Vista Christian
10. Valley Christian

D-I: Bellarmine is the prohibitive favorite to win. Milpitas is the heavy favorite to reach the finals.
D-II: St. Francis is a heavy favorite to reach the finals. Valley Christian would be a favorite over Oak Grove in the 2nd round due to their first meeting.
D-III: Palma and Riordan should be a very competitive semifinal. I'm calling Sacred Heart Prep over Live Oak, who should face Monte Vista Christian in the 2nd round. Do not sleep on the Mustangs, who had a lead late against Palma and actually beat Hollister to end the regular season.

Given the above, I'm predicting that the CCS regional teams will be Bellarmine, St. Francis, Riordan, Monte Vista Christian, and Milpitas.

Pacific Grove-Scotts Valley CCS Section Thriller in Final 1.2 seconds!!!

After a 1-minute 2-second surgically executed but nonetheless desparation drive that, if the last play of the game failed, the 4th Quarter in a CCS Section Small School semi-final game would have ended 35-34, but only if the final play of the game failed, with 1.2 seconds on the clock!

Cold night in Pacific Grove for the PG vs. Scotts Valley semi at Breaker Stadium on Monterey Peninsula where a week earlier PG defeated Capuchino while up Hwy 1 and just off Hwy 17 Scotts Valley defeated Menlo in the first round of the CCS Small School playoffs.

After Scotts Valley jumped to a 14-0 lead to end the 1st qtr on two long plays against a rather sluggish, flat-looking PG, the Breakers got some game and began the 2nd qtr by recovering a SV fumble and then a couple plays later PG's Ebo snaked into the endzone to pull within : Scotts Valley 14-7, and then, with only :52 secs left in the 1st half, PG's Cryns, on a slant off the right tackle, scored and the half ended with both teams tied: SV 14-PG 14.

Two highlights of the 1st half were the defensive play of SV's muscular, extremely fast RT line-backer Leonetti who through-out the first half was almost the 12th man on the Breaker's team as he was in PG's back-field, tackling or sacking or breaking-up pass plays when he wasn't leading or in on searing short-gain tackles, the 2nd highlight when, with an all good things must come to and end flaver to it when PG's Cryns running down the right sideline to set-up PG's 2nd score a play or so later was about to be shoved out of bounds by Leonetti but instead turned into the burly linebacker and drove him about 5-yards downflield before gravity took over, with both guys rolling another 5 yards like a ball of colored yarn and about to duke it out after Leonetti got up and popped Cryns on the front shoulder pads. You had to be there, just one of those terrific moments during a hsfootball game when tension and stakes are high. (Hard to believe a kid like Leonetti won't make all-league at his position and good reason for the Mercury News sports section to name him their #1 candidate in that position for its yearend picks of top players, even though he's from a small school.)

Second half was a see-saw scoring affair, with SV scoring on a 10 yard pass at 9:00 into the 3rd qtr, with PG coming back after Colby Foster ran for 2 consective 20 yd gains capped by a Capolla 22-yd run for a TD, score tied SV 21-PG 21 with 5:12 remaining in the qtr which ended with SV's Troy Mihn scoring with 2:00 remaining to end the 3rd qtr SV 28-21.

Less than 2 mins into the 4th qtr, after PG's Cryns (a surfer-looking kid with long hair and natural, instinctual running ability) bulled his way down field into SV's red-zone, Ebo rushed for the end-zone to tie the game up, again, 28-28.

With 3:33 remaining in the 4th qtr, SV scored on a beautifully executed hook and lateral passing play for a 44-yd TD, and then, with 1:40 left on the clock, from 2 yds out, Cryns scored again bringing PG within 1 point and a tie: with SV leading 35-34, but not to happen, as PG, instead of kicking for the extra point, failed to run the ball to the right for 2. Game over is what it looked to be, but instead, after the kick-off, with SV's running game stalled and with PG using up all three of its TOs to stop the clock, SV had to punt, kicking the ball OB which stopped the clock with 1:02 left in the game. About 10 plays later, with PG's QB Morton (a short-stop with a rifle for an arm during another season) hitting most of his passes and spiking the ball if the play didn't go OB to stop the clock, finally, with 1.2 seconds on the scoreboard digitals, after Scotts Valley used 2 of its TOs to rattle kicker Nolan, ball snapped, Moore sets it down on the round black disc, and Nolan pops it through the uprights with the buzzer sounding and PG winning 37-35, a heart-breaking loss for Scotts Valley, a jerked from the jaws of play-off death vic for the Breakers of Pacific Grove who will meet Half Moon Bay during next week's CCS Small School championship game (after HMB deteated Carmel, tonight, in HMB, 28-14). Yeah, one of those games where everyone in the PG stands has these holey mackeral-eating grins on their faces and big rolling eyeballs in their sockets as PG is hop-scotching down the field to pull off the win which yoou almost know is going to happen. And some people wonder why many of us grown men love following hsfootball! Muds

Cal vs Texas A&M Predictions

Just a few days till the Lady Bears go to Vegas to play ranked A&M. Should be a good one, I think we can beat them if we beat Louisville. Texas A&M did beat Duke but I'm not impressed with Duke this year. I looked on the site and looks like a lot of good match ups in Vegas and that Kelsey Mitchell kid at Ohio State, and Kelsey Plum for Washington. Games should be streamed, I will be tuning in.
