HEY REB!

Tony Sanchez (Granada Alum, Cal High ex coach) leads UNLV home with the CANNON! His team is looking great. Michigan has allowed 200 total yards in their last two games, SancheZ's team far exceeded that against BLUE. Followed by and 80 point game and a huge in state win. Sanchez owns the state. His team is one win away from hitting the over in Vegas. This is all with none of his recruits (his assumed strength) Watch out MOUNTAIN WEST!

Watchout, Palma: Salinas Cowboys bale the Balers in The Pit!

If the Salinas Cowboys have anything to say about it (as they surely did Friday nite in the Pit after holding off a final quarter surge to extend their game long lead and beat the San Benito/Hollister Hay Balers 39-16), it's looking like the Central Coast Section's Monterey Bay-Gabilon League could come down to what happens when the Palma Bag Pipers (I can't spell Chieftans correctly) and Salinas meet prior to the generally annual League decider between Palma and Hollister.

Now, with the Cowboys' serious win over the Balers (after getting drubbed last week 46-6 by Milpitas), Salinas is going to make the end of the season just that much more precious for the thousands of home town fans who pack the Pit each game (ie., get to the next one early cause parking can be a bwitch).

Friday nite, the Cowboys primary scoring attack came on 2 TDs by Jack "The Ripper" Schuler and a trio of passing TDs from Matt Castenada to Ryan Jensen, two of them for 48 and 50 yards. Last time I saw Castenada throwing was about three weeks ago against Pioneer of San Jose, his arm (quite strong) and accuracy much improved since then. Muds

DLS 37- GB 0 Final

DLS is playing like crap, but leads 16-0. Were they playing an OOS game, or even one of the better SoCal teams they would likely be losing by at least 2 scores.

4 turnovers at least 70+ yards in penalties. The only reason they are winning is because the defense held GB without an earned first down (as in one not given because of a penalty) until GB's last drive of the half with a minute left and DLS in a prevent. DLS' possessions have gone fumble, then muffed the GB punt, TD, went 3 and out thanks to some questionable play calling (3 straight pass plays which I don't get when the team is clearly not executing), fumble, fumble, TD. 3 fumbles have occurred deep in GB territory, including the last one at the goal line (although it led to a safety and TD).

To be fair GB has committed a number of penalties as well.

I don't know what happened on the bye week, but film session will not be fun tomorrow.

WEEK 5 PREDICTIONS FOR DVAL,DFAL,BVAL,EBAL....FREELANCE

The game of the week takes place on Friday night as Monte Vista visits Clayton Valley charter...Now CVC is 3-1 and their only loss was to Folsom 27-26, but look what they have done.....shut out tracy 35-0, shut out Cardinal Newman 28-0, but if Brookshire was healthy, this game might have been different...And then last week they polished off Logan 42-13.....Now Monte Vista is a different story....The eagles face a team with a very good QB and a strong line...Jake Haener is only a Jr.but has been red hot, so we will see how the Mustang's stack up against CVC.
Another game between Campolindo and Dougherty Valley should be a real test for the Wildcats to see if they are for real...Last week, Dublin would not quit and held the Cougars to a 14-10 win, so we will see if DV can stop Campolindo..

FRIDAY NIGHT RECAP

There are some interesting things going on in other leagues right now as in the Tri-County Stone league we have two teams at 5-0......Valley Christian of Dublin and Swett of Crockett...And Moreau Catholic lost their first game last Friday night to American 27-20....
The game of the week played up to its title as Clayton valley charter got by Monte vista 21-17 as Jake Haener kept the Eagles realing with his passing attack, but in the end it was the eagle defense that saved the day..
FREE LANCE
Logan got by Bishop O'Dowd in what was figured to be a hard fought game and DLS did what they do best...WIN....by shutting out Granite Bay.
Game Of Interest
McClymonds got by Piedmont 23-21 as the High Landers would not lay down for Mack...
BVAL
Pittsburg ran all over Castlemont 47-7, but we thought this was going to happen...
But at the Deer Valley-College Park game, a real battle took place as the Falcon's would not quit and stayed with DV but lost 38-33..
Deer Valley.....07.....14.....14.....03.....38
College Park...07.....14.....06.....06.....33
Now College Park gave Pinole Valley a run for their money a few weeks ago but went down 41-32 and although CP is 0-5, the will give the DVAL teams trouble..
DFAL
Alhambra has turned into a team of underperformers as they racked up 15 penalties while going down 34-13 to Acalanes..The bulldog's have been their own worst enemy the last two games as these calls have killed TD runs and big ground gainers, a total lack of discipline.. In this game, we thought the bulldogs would get into the win column, but the Don's thought other wise.
Campolindo popped Dougherty Valley's bubble with a 41-0 shut out,, with all the victories that the wildcats racked up made them look red hot so not time for the Wildcats to regroup. And Miramonte kept its winning ways with a 43-13 win over Las Lomas.
DVAL
Clayton valley Charter ran into its second hard fought battle against Monte Vista and was in trouble for three Quarters and going into the fourth quarter before the defense came up strong and the Eagles won 21-17
Mt. Diablo finally won its first game with a 36-34 win over Oakland in the second high scoring game the Red Devils played. And Ygnacio Valley erupted for a 60-26 win over skyline, we thought for sure that Skyline would win as the Warriors seamed to be stumbling.
EBAL
Hats off to the Monte Vista Mustang's although they lost to CVC 21-17 and now next Friday is league play.
Amador Valley got by Granada 29-22 which we figured would be a close game and Foothill shut out San Ramon Valley 24-0 and in this game we thought for sure that San Ramon would put up some points and California shut out Livermore 41-0 .
Most interesting games this week were Monte vista at CVC, Deer Valley at college Park, Oakland at Mt. Diablo and Amador Valley at Granada....Three games saw the score board light up and one real battle...

CLAYTON VALLEY CHARTER 21 MONTE VISTA 17

Clayton Valley Charter...08.....20.....00.....06.....34

Monte vista.....10.....07.....00.....00.....17
CVC...........,.,..00.....14.....00.....07.....20

In what a lot of guys thought this was going to be a route, turned out to be CVC in trouble for three quarters so it seemed....But the eagles running game ran 57 plays for 269 yards with Jackson on two big runs of 49 and 40 and the Eagle QB with countless QB sneaks kept the ground game moving...Now CVC likes to go for 4th and 4 or 5 yards, but one of these plays in the first quarter backfired and Monte Vista booted a field goal as the Mustang's got super field position when the game had five minutes left on the clock in the first quarter.....but with 1:20 left, the mustang's again took advantage of a 4th and long and it back fired again, but MV could not move the ball so they booted another FG which was successful, but a roughing the kicker gave MV a first down and the MV QB fired a three yard pass to Banta for the first TD and Monte Vista went ahead 10-0...Now the Mustang's had the thankless job of trying to stop Jackson and this guy is a wild man as it took several defenders with all their might to stop Jackson while he was dragging defenders before going down.
Now Jake Haenor was using Banta, smith, Holms and Fitzgerald as targets and he fired 33 passes for 217 yards..There were passes of 45 17,13,15,22,24 and 29 that were completed by the MV QB who was also sacked in the closing minutes of the game when it looked like they may pulled the game out after falling behind 21-17 for losses of 7 13 and 9 yards which ended the possible threat...
Now Jackson struck for the first Eagle TD in the second quarter with a 49 yard dash with 8:37 on the clock and then later on a four yard romp which game the Eagles two TD's but were behind 17-14 going into the half..
The third quarter was strange as neitherteam could move the ballrealsuccess, but in the fourth quarter, MV was driving and gotdown to the 32 yard line and fired a long pass that was intercepted by the Eagles that ended another possible scoring drive and set the tone for the final TD that won the game....

For Monte Vista, the running game was dismal as they ran 13plays for 33 yards and went to the air for 217 yards on 33 attempts., they punted twice racked up 13 first downs and had five calls 50 yards in penalities...
For CVC, the Eagles threw only one pass for six yards, but ran 57 running plays for 269 yards , they also had 13 first downs punted twice and had a back breaking interception in the fourth quarter which lead to the winning TD. CVC had seven calls for 55 yards

Evan Marshall

Many of us are familiar with Evan. He prepped at Homestead. He attended Kansas St. He made the big leagues with the Diamondbacks in 2014. (May) His father is one of the "Mt. Rushmore" posters on this site, dating back to the old days of the early 2000's when the baseball board was humming.

Evan was struck in the temple with a line drive while pitching for the Reno Aces (AAA) Tuesday night in El Paso. He has a fractured skull and is currently still in intensive care in Texas. Here is the latest statement from the team, “He is alert and has been engaging in conversation and is able to walk,” the team said in a statement Friday.

Let's keep the young man and the family in our prayers.

Thanks
