CCS Open playoffs

Looks like this year we will see alot of very good matchups in the Open. St Francis will be the favorite, but by a slim margin. Half Moon Bay will get a chance to show they are the real deal and SHP will try and prove doubters wrong as they did in football. Palma is quietly having a great season as well with only 3 losses one of them to St Francis by 10 points. The WCAL teams having been beating up on eachother, so anything can happen if they matchup again. Serra is playing their best basketball now, St Francis is shooting the ball well, SHC could suprise if the atheletes show up, Riordan could suprise as well with a prolific scorer, and will Mitty get hot again? All these questions will be answered next week with some first round upsets looming. This is assuming these teams are in the open.

Norcal Open State Teams Representatives

Why it that only one D1 team has represented Girl Baskeball Norcal Open State Playoffs. This tell me that D1 is not the strongest divisions in Northern Ca and that is was easy to get to the Championship for SMS. SMS has been in the open playoffs since it started but hasn't won Norcal yet but this might be there year. There has been a D3 team BOD who won the first ever Open State Champion 2013 and D4 team Salesian lost last year to LBP Socal team. What is that tell me that SMS had an easy way to State every year in D1 because it is one of the weaker Divisions in Northern Ca.

Little league WS...Petaluma

I was at a Petaluma HS Frosh basketball game earlier this year...and sitting in the stands I started up a conversation with a parent at Petaluma HS. Apparently all but 3 of the Petaluma Little League world series team are at Petaluma HS and not Casa Grande, which honestly was a shocker to me. It will be interesting to see how those kids develop over the next few years and if it translates to the varsity level.

HMB won't Beat Serra

What was looking like a dream season only two weeks ago is slowly devolving into a nightmare for the Half Moon Bay boys' basketball team. Two weeks ago, the Cougars were 11-0 in PAL North play and a win over Terra Nova away from finishing the regular season with an undefeated record. HMB was stunned by the Tigers that night, losing on a buzzer beater. They followed that with a sluggish win over Menlo-Atherton in the quarterfinals of the PAL tournament before bowing out 48-40 in the semifinals against eventual champion Sequoia. The Cougars still had enough to earn a spot in the Open Division, but at a lower than previously predicted seventh seed. Losing 2 of 3 is not how teams like entering the playoffs and a third loss in four games is a possibility: looming for the Cougars is a first-round, Open Division matchup against No. 2 Serra (19-5).
A loss to the Padres would not end Half Moon Bay's season - by making the Open Division, the Cougars get an automatic spot in the Nor Cal tournament. Between then and now, all the first-round Open Division losers play in a consolation bracket. Don't ask. Half Moon Bay certainly has what it takes to beat Serra, the best team in the county, but the Cougars will need a lot more than what they've been getting if they want to make any noise in the postseason.
