Good week for NorCal in the Pac-12

UCLA's Chris Keck (Amador Valley) was named Hitter of the Week and Washington's Noah Bremer (Berkeley) was named Pitcher of the Week.

Keck went 5-for-10 with nine RBI as UCLA went 4-0. He started two games at third base and two games at first base.

Bremer, a true freshman, had four shutout innings against Portland and then tossed seven shutout innings against North Dakota after retiring the first 19 batters.

Brackets are out, tanks, but no tanks

Congratulations to the NorCal Open selections. Looks like the committee got it right, but I am surprised that SMB was selected, and a 5 seed at that. I guess the selection committee saw right thru all the tanking that went on this past week, except of course for Brookside (lighten up I'm only kidding).

I'm looking forward to watching more great girls high school basketball. No more predictions from me. It's very clear why I always return from Vegas with empty pockets, but I am always interested in hearing what the "experts" have to say.

Dublin vs. Carondolet

People are already writing The Big C in to the open divsion. I don't think Dublin will go down without a fight.
This is Dublin's best chance in years to pull the upset. Carrington, Moses, Amante and Warlich are all seniors and have been under Wainwright since freshman. DHS for the next 4 years looks like a bad team with its current returners and jv prospects so the time is now to try to win.

Moreau catholic and St. Francis chosen for the open

Moreau Catholic and St. Francis were chosen for the open filling out the 8 team bracket.
O'dowd vs 8 St Francis
4. Folsom vs. 5.el Cerrito
3. Moreau catholic vs. 6. Serra.
2. Monte Vista vs. Modesto Christian.

Besides O'Dowd. I could see all these games being really close.
I guess they threw St. Francis to make 8 teams. That is 4 d 2 teams which really waters down d2.
Everyone besides St. Francis. seems to belong their this year.

Serra beats SF 40-38

Jake Killingsworth gets fouled on a three with .6 seconds left and drains all 3 f/t's to put Padres up 2. Testa off the bench was huge for the Padres. Padres were up most of the 4th quarter but Witt scored 7 points in final minutes to give the Lancers the lead before the fouls shots. Lancers were 10 for 20 from the line.

NCS D4

ok......the final 4 is set......

The consensus best 4 teams are left playing.....GREAT matchups!!

#1 SMB vs. #4 Piedmont...

#2 Salesian vs. #3 CN...

1v4....Piedmont has been balling coming down the stretch...Beat Berkeley, battled O'Dowd to the wire...has Dennis made that big
of a difference? Good guards for Piedmont and good bigs....Moseley for SMB and role players.,...is that enough? Upset?

2v3.....GREAT GREAT GREAT matchup....very good Salesian guards vs. very good CN bigs.....HUGE advantages for both teams...

any thoughts??? predictions??

next weds....march 4th....

Mater Dei vs Chaminade...Socal Board Chopping it up

: : : : : : : : : : : : I am very interested in this matchup of two
heavyweight teams. Chaminade won the first meeting in the beggining of
the year which leads me to believe that Chaminades length and
athleticism will be too much for MD. MD looks slow but only compared to
Chaminade. Does anyone disagree?
: : : : : : : : : : : Yeh but
Chaminade don't have no skilled players they just athletic. Gotta guard
that three vs MD cause they'll get us out the game quick
: : : : :
: : : : : It'll come down to the Xs and Os, and by the looks of things
Kiernan is looking like He doesn't know how to coach talent with two of
his former players making it to the championship that he couldn't win
last year!!!!!!!!
: : : : : : : : : Who were the players he coached that made it to the championship?
: : : : : : : : The girl from windward just made it to the championship and Odom is obviously facing MD.
: : : : : : : Maybe it was too many Ego's for him to coach on one team! LOL
:
: : : : : Wow! Didn't realize he had all those players on one team last
year. And they say HS basketball coaches don't recruit LMFAO
: : :
: : There was no recruiting going on, they just all jus so happened to
be on the same team, at the same time, I mean MD isn't good or
anything..... But seriously how don't you win with a Division 1 team
haha. Kiernans Coaching is a joke.......
: : : : When it's all said and done MD will win because the three ball is worth more than the two
: : : The two teams with the most recruits are in the finals!
:
: I think coach K knows something about coaching, his teams are always
near number one in the nation every year. Troy was always close to tops
in the nation. I agree you have to have the best players as well He is
the Phil Jackson of girls basketball.
: We have #1 vs #2 in the Nation playing for our CIF-SS championship and people criticize? How about enjoy it?
::
IMHO this is definitely going to come down to coaching, plain and
simple. Just like it did last year with Windward. MD got out coached had
no answer whatsoever. I don't know if everyone remembers, but Mater Dei
(MATER DEI!) never got within 15 points of Windward after the half.
They trailed 23-46 at the half. Coach K and the entire team, staff were
utterly confused about what was happening. They had KLS, Odom, Ally,
Woods, Velasco (sisters) - ALL that, and still got beat. One of the
Windward starters was a freshman. This is going to be a FANTASTIC
game. Anything could happen, including MD being dismantled by the "#2"
team. I'm gonna sit back and enjoy!

SHC Wins CCS D-III Soccer Championship

In Division III: SHC beat S.H. Prep 1-0. Spencer Johnson scored an early goal and it stood up. SHC was more aggressive on offense and had more shots on goal as a result.

In Division I: Bellarmine beat previously undefeated Watsonville 1-0.

In Division II: Leland and Mt. Pleasant tied at 2-2 and shared the trophy.

Good crowd. At least 2000 people showed up.
