2013 Wrestling CCS Championship Updates

So far sortly after round 2

Teams:

1. Gilroy 67.0;
2. Palma 54.5;
3. Saint Francis 48.0;
4. Alisal 44.0;
5. Serra 43.5;
6. Mitty 42.0;
7 Gunn 41.0

Looking like Gilroy is going to be tough to catch with positions they hav moving forward unless some major upsets. Palma coul close some. Looks like St Francis could catch Palma (will probably go back and forth through rounds), but most likely not at the end with wrestlers in position to score. SF moves forward at lower-mid weights and Palma moves ahead at upper weights. However, Palma and SF could be a battle to the end. MBL Gabelon Division though looks like the WCAL in football though. Alisal and Christopher have been doing well.

2013 CCS Wrestling Championship Seedings

120 - Isaih Locsin - Live Oak #2 ranked in state and should win and be high seed in state.

132 - Paul Fox - Gilroy #3 in state (should win and high seed in state).
138 - Nicholas Villarreal - #1 in state (#2 in state Elijah Davis, #3 in CCS Alex Garcia Palma) - Villarreal is elite but maybe one of the most stacked weight classes.- Villarreal should win and seed #1 in state)
145 - Zac Contreras, Riordan, #7 in state
160- Louis Quitero, King City, #8 in state
170 - Jovan Villalobos, Alisal, #7 in state
220- will be a battle - no elite
285- Hildelv Manzur, Palma, undefeated, #4 in state - should keep his undefeated record and will be high seed in state.

Gilroy should win CCS again. Palma #2 and St Francis or Riordan will take #3.Palma may have challenge Gilroy this year, but lost a top CCS seed Hunter Reihben early in season to injury. MBL Gabelan should be #1 and #2 in CCS in 2013. 1-2 state champs come out of this section this year.

The Sacred Heart Cathedral Frosh team beat Serra 2-1 and finished their season in second place at 8-1-1
in the WCAL and 11-1-3 overall. Their only loss was to Bellarmine (2-0). They
also tied Bellarmine 0-0 in their earlier game. That's the best record I can
recall any of our soccer teams on any level ever having.

Riordan dropped their frosh soccer team. Their JV's were 0-19-1 and their varsity was 2-18 before the playoffs but at least they broke their 123-game winless streak having wins over El Camino and Terra Nova this season.

WCAL

Irish Soccer beats St. Francis 2-2-2013

Sacred Heart Cathedral beat St. Francis 3-1 at Crocker #2 today. St. Francis scored first early in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead at the half. SHC played much more aggressively in the second half, scoring on a penalty kick, then a corner kick later in the half and finally in extra time, SHC scored on another penalty kick. St. Francis players and fans couldn't believe the mickey-mouse calls by the officials all during the game. I'm no soccer expert but I would agree with the fans on this one. Lancers had at least 4 yellow card warnings.

Wrestling: 2012 The Clash-National High School Wrestling Duals

The Clash National High School Wrestling Duals, Rochester, Minnesota:

Clash National Duals results (Vacaville)
Today Vacaville finished the Clash National Duals by winning the
division 4 pool, finishing 13th overall and 3-0 on day two of the tournament.

Among the highlights include a 36-24 win over the #1 team from Missouri, Kearney High School,
to win the pool, ranked 33 nationally by Intermat. Other dual scores include:

Vacaville 44 Owatonna MN 18
Vacaville 29 Kasson Mantorville MN 35 (#17 Intermat)
Vacaville 30 Pope GA 33 (#50 Intermat)
Vacaville 47 Collins Hill GA 17
Vacaville 54 Jefferson GA 22

The team finished 4-2 overall, with a 13-2 record so far this season. The dual meet win over Jefferson, GA, was the 200th dual win for Coaches Wight and Birch, who are now 201-46 in eight seasons.

Senior Kasey Klaus was selected for the All Tournament team at 120 lbs. - a weight class that also featured the #1 wrestler in the nation, Tommy Thorn of St. Michael Albertville. Klaus did not surrender a single point the entire tournament, and pinned Kearney's defending state champion and All American Seth Brayfield. Klaus finished 20-4 in his four trips to Minnesota, including going 12-0 the last two seasons. He will join his brother Kody on the list of Most Wins at the Clash, who was also 20-4 and a two time All Tourney team member.

Finishing 6-0 with Klaus was senior Chris Lai, who was honored as part of the tournaments All Academic Team. Jeramy Sweany, Danny Delgado, Zack Dawson, and Cameron Bailey all finished 5-1. Steven Gomez and Zach Crane both bounced back from tough first days to win all three matches the second day. Sweany's lone loss was to Broc Berge of Kasson Mantorville, ranked #1 in the nation by WIN magazine, and an Iowa committment. Jeramy lost 6-4 in Overtime.

Wrestling: 2013 Battle for the Belt- Temecula Valley

2013 Battle for the Belt Team List

We are excited to announce the initial 2013 Battle for the Belt team list. This year's tournament is shaping up to be the best yet. New to this year's competition will be Bethlehem Catholic of Pennsylvania. They were Pennsylvania's AA state champs in 2012 and finished twelfth among the national rankings. Also, joining the competition will be perennial state power Vacaville who will be travelling south for the first time since 2009. Other top 10 finishers from last year's state meet who will return to the Battle for the Belt are three time defending Battle for the Belt team champions and two time defending state champions Clovis along with Bakersfield, Poway, De La Salle, St John Bosco, Lemoore, and Canyon Springs, respectively. We are also in the process of attempting to secure other state powers. All of this will contribute to what might be the most competitive team race in the history of the competition.

Currently, there are 38 teams who have applied for, and been accepted to, the 2013 Battle for the Belt. These teams are listed below.
