Oakland @ SRV

Well, didn’t expect to see on NFHS that there was a game after all…. But yes there is…

So, I put my handy-dandy swin-fin attachment on my wheels, and slogged my way down here.

Right now, it’s halftime of the JV game, SRV leading 18-16.

Based on my horrible connectivity last time I came here, I didn’t bother to bring my Bluetooth keyboard, so no attempt at semi-play-by-play will happen here…

Anyway, this should be a really good game…

Tonight's Campo game postponed due to weather concerns...

Found out after I got there for the freshmen game and encountered an empty gym, happened to run into Coach Dyer on the way back to my car, and he told me the news...

Little wind, almost zero rain at 3:45 at Campo, but they are concerned over what it'll be like after the games, I guess...

Thought about seeing if I could find another game nearby, decided to bag it.

My guess is more postponements will happen tonight, and even more tomorrow.

Liberty Patriots vs. Modesto Christian Crusaders 1/7/2023

Another top-notch square down as MC travels to play Liberty of Henderson. Liberty who has played a very tough schedule has recent wins over Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 87-83, Harvard-Westlake of Bel Aire 59-56. Liberty also played Coronado and loss 58-55. MC started season with loss to Coronado 78-70, also Notre Dame 98-72. MC was leading West Linn who just knocked of Duncanville and Sierra Canyon, this past week. MC had the lead on West Linn late into the 4th qtr., until Prince Oseya and BJ Davis fouled out. Crusaders have played superbly winning 7 out of their last 8, only defeat was to West Linn suburb of Portland. Liberty has 4 players over 6'8 and will have an advantage on the boards. MC really starting to spread the floor and pass to the open player, who recently has been Freshman Sensation Rashod Cotton. Opponents when they double team BJ and you have Jalen Green or Zeke Davis for the 3. Kody Weary has stepped up this last week playing with tenacity. Tough schedule for the Crusaders this month playing Liberty 1/7, Saint Mary's of Stockton 1/9,1/30, Lincoln of Stockton 1/13, Saint Joseph's of Santa Maria 1/16, Saint Rita of Chicago 1/20, Vashon of Saint Louis 1/21.
Big congrats to Coach Fantazia who had Phillips show up for Friday practice and Saturday have his parents tell him Phillips was headed to AZ Compass. Adversity that might have sunk a promise has built chemistry to a team and not me guy!

Elk Grove’s Simi Pale chose Stanford over last ditch NIL deal offered by P5 school in attempt to steal the recruit.

While at Pale’s signing day his father had mentioned that they had been offered an NIL deal from a P5 school in an attempt to sway Pale to their institution. Mesmerized by the offer his Father, Coach Pale, said he was “acting like a groupie” when he seen the offer. But he expressed how proud he was of his son when he chose Stanford and to put off the money now, in hopes to land money later.. I.E. getting drafted or a shot in the NFL. It was a breath of fresh air to see a kid level headed not chasing the NIL deals but rather choosing the institution that is best suited for him and his future interest and endeavors.

West Coast Jamboree: Thanks to all

We'd love to say everything went smoothly from start to finish but with 160 games, there are bound to be a few hiccups.

Our thanks to Dave Cutaia and all the officials for working so hard to cover all the games. (I have to say I'm not as happy with fans and coaches who complain incessantly about the officiating. It's high school basketball, and we're all high school level, so when a ref is doing his 12th game in three days and blows a call or two, I wish people would remember that their players miss layups and their coaches make mistakes. If you don't like the officiating, then get a whistle and do a better job than the people out there now.)

Our thanks to all the coaches and players who dealt with game changes, delays and all the usual hassles of a big event.

And of course thanks to the fans who battled the rain to come out and cheer on their teams.

See you all next year ...
