Saturday - Day two
There were 9 games competing on Saturday. With a few exceptions, most game results were expected. And as it normally happens, the South dominated the top 5 divisions. Only Grant pulled off a win for the North among divisions D-Open to D2A.

The D-Open was won by SS section's Mater Dei as expected. The score was 37-15. However, DLS performed much better than most people thought was possible against the number one team in the nation. A win for the South.

D1A was won by Edison of Huntington Beach 21-14. Central of Fresno was representing the North. A win for the SS section and the South.

D2A Palos Verdes dominated 55-19. Calpreps predicted a win by Twelve Bridge that did not materialize. A win for SS section and the South.

D3A Vanden won 42-41 in overtime. This was one of the closest games of the 2024 SBG games. A win for the SJS section and the North.

D4A was won convincingly by Sonora 52-34. Another win for the SJS section and the North.

D5A American Canyon won a high scoring games 68-41. A win for the NCS section and the North.

D6AA This was another very close game won in overtime by Arcata 27-21. A victory for the NCS section and the North.

D6A Summerville won 38-21 for the SJS section and the North.

D7A Balboa dominated in its win 55-21. A victory of SFS and the North.

Here are the final tallies for the 2024 SBG games.

CCS 1/1 - Carmel was the only team to represent the CCS section.
CS 1/3 - The CS section won only one game. Two teams represented the South and one team represented the North. The one winning team was a victory for the South.
LAS - No representation in the SBG games.
NCS 4/7 - The NCS section had the second most teams representing in the SBG games after the huge SS section. They came away tied for the most wins with the SJS section.
NS- No representation in the SBG games.
OS- No representation in the SBG games.
SDS 1/3 - Like the CS section, the SDS section won only 1 game out of the three teams competing in the SBG games.
SFS 1/1 - The SFS section has only one slot and they got a solid victory.
SJS 4/5 - The SJS section tied the NCS section for the most wins in the SBG games. However, this section gained the highest percentage of SBG wins with 80% of the teams being victorious.
SS 3/10 - As expected, the SS had the most representative teams in the SBG games. But their performance was one of the worst this year.

Final North vs South tally. This year was typical of other years.
South 5
North 10

Total record since 2015 when the CIF included all divisional champions for the bowl games
South 49
North 78

And the tally for the entire set of SBG games since 2006, there have been 168 games played. The North had won 95 games and the South won 73 games.

Mater Dei has the been the most dominant winner of the SBG games recently. But they do not have the most total wins. That distinction goes to DLS. Here are teams winning 4 or more SBG games.

I broke down each NorCal section's performance in the regional games dating back to 2017. Eventually, I would like to add in 15 & 16, but I got busy with other projects. I wanted to see how each individual section division performed compared to where they were seeded in the NorCal games. I'll admit it was a little tricky to follow the process for which the NCS & CCS selected their state representatives prior to 2018. To me, it looked as if some section champions were left out in favor of higher division teams, but that could have also been incorrect reporting by MaxPreps. Maybe someone here can help shed some light on that for me!

Anyway, here is what I found for each section's NorCal regional games as a WHOLE.

North Coast = 27-16 (.628) + 20 state titles | Average team rating = 175 (75% above average for NorCal)
Sac-Joaquin = 23-24 (.489) + 16 state titles | Avg rating = 177
Central Coast = 17-17 (.500) + 11 state titles | Avg rating = 173
Central Section = 7-9 (.438) + 4 state titles | Avg rating = 180
Oakland = 5-2 (.714) + 2 state titles | Avg rating = 173
Northern = 5-18 (.217) + 3 state titles | Avg rating = 135
San Francisco = 3-1 (.750) + 6 state titles | Avg rating = 100

I'll admit straight up that I am a biased follower of the Northern Section, but I would really like to see the committee use data like this to inform their seeding decisions. 16 of the 20 state titles for the NCS have come from the lowest 4 divisions (as we saw again this year). I'd like to see some of those divisions placed a little higher, or the NSCIF placed into more appropriate spots. If they had matched Moreau with Winters & Arcata with Lassen, and both North Coast schools still won, so be it. But Lassen/American Canyon & Arcata/Winters didn't feel like proper matchups. I know many would have been against it, but I'd have even considered in-section games there (AmCan vs. Arcata, Lassen vs. Winters). Those would have been competitive games IMO.

From the NorCal side of things, I really don't see a whole lot more that would need fixing. Maybe add an opponent for the open game. When you take out the NCS & NSCIF records, everyone else is roughly .500. To me, that's what competitive equity looks like.
