Aptos 37-1 in league over last three years

Unfortunately, that dominant league record may actually hurt Aptos in the long run. Without strong weekly competition, it is only natural to allow the small but important things to slide. It's one thing to be a big fish in a little, local pond; it's quite another to be a hungry shark in the entire CCS/NorCal aquarium. One modest caveat, however: The equity-based NorCal/state playoffs may open the title door for the Mariners (or some other reasonably strong CCS public) at some point. It seems inevitable. If it's Aptos under these new favorable rules, good for them. It's been 32 years since a CCS public won a NorCal or state crown. Burlingame, 36-2 in 1988, is the sole CCS public to pull off those twin feats, both achieved under the prior five-division, enrollment-based format .
