Pretty strong reaction from Malik McCord:

“We shouldn’t have been here in the first place,” Bishop O’Dowd coach Malik McCord said. “How we won a head-to-head and then we’re here, I don’t understand. But this is the first time, I was telling the kids in there, out of my eight years coaching, I never make excuses, but the way the refs were calling that second half was totally different. And it really screwed up our rhythm.”

I think the two losses to Salesian might have had something to do with the lower seeding and the fact that Pinewood beat Salesian.

This was a tough call. Each had roughly the same strength of schedule (per MaxPreps'
computer) and neither was section champ. But one would think head-to-head would count for something ...

I agree with Malik that either a) O'Dowd and Pinewood should have been seeded closer together, or b) Pinewood should have been at Chabot (not O'Dowd, which should never host a postseason game).

How about this .... PINEWOOD IS PRETTY DAM GOOD AND BOD GOT BEAT! Doc is a class act and one of the top 3 coaches in NorCal IF NOT THE STATE, he flat out knows what he's doing! Give credit where credit is due !

When BOD barely beat St Marys by 2 in semi finals of Section and then lost to Salesian, think both of those things dropped BOD seeding.

Pinewood.aka..Moneyball
PW averages 28 3 point attempts per game...
against either SMS or Mitty ...PW needs to attempt at least that many attempts...
last time they played Mitty...21 attempts at a three...that is not enough...
Yes Doc knows how to teach shooting mechanics everyone knows that...
that is PWs advantage...and they didn't even try to use it...dumb move...
OK now another potential chance to use one of the few advantages PW has...
"Come on man" don't make the same mistake twice

"didn't even try" lazy or stupid?
"dumb" OK then, stoopid.

brilliant analysis, covering all aspects of basketball. does a blocked three-point shot count as a three-point attempt? Jump played.

How? BOD lost a divisional section game in MARCH to a team Pinewood beat in February. Head to head 3-4 months prior gets trumped when you don't deliver in championship contests. CW is not ranked ahead of St. Johns and they won head to head? Pinewood proved last night who the better team was.

In the same argument you would have to put Pinewood ahead of salesian and salesian ahead of BOD, It can't be done. PW played Mitty closer than anyone and did so without their PG and BOD lost to Salesian, not once but twice and Salesian lost recently to Pinewood. Sounds about right.

The real mystery was how Carondelet was ranked #2.

Idiot.

This is where the CCS Open helps the CCS teams. PW lost in the finals of the CCS Open, while BOD lost in the finals of NCS D3. Open is more impressive than D3.

Also, as Jaymel mentioned PW played Mitty close in that game, while neither of BOD's losses against Mitty were close. I think it was the right call to seed PW ahead of BOD. Can't comment on the referees during this game though, because I didn't see it. As we all know, the referees can make a difference, it's just rare for a coach to call them out. Did anyone watching the game (besides Malik) think the referees made the difference?

The real mystery was how Carondelet was ranked #2.

Carondelet was ranked #2 because their 4 loses came to Arizona's 2017 state champion, Tennessee's 2016/2017 state champion, and CW & Mitty the #1 and #2 seeds in the state who have both been #1 in the nation at times this season.

Folks with class don't hate on children. They give positive encouragement.

Congratulations to Cardinal Newman on the victory. And congratulations to both teams for a very entertaining game that could have went either way. Good luck to Cardinal Newman moving forward.

Paytc ....

It was as exciting of a girls HS basketball game as Ive ever watched....

It's a cliché but it holds true here....neither team deserved to lose that game and its a shame someone had to. Its what HS sports is all about....who wouldn't want to play in a game like that?
You were/are very gratious in defeat and its much appreciated.
