Well…. I had Roosevelt by 5…. But after a closer look at common opponents…. I think it’ll be 15 or more.

Rankings, national…. Roosevelt 2, Riordan 23.

All three of the common opponents, Riordan won close games, but Roosevelt beat ‘em pretty bad.

A Riordan win would be a pretty darned big upset.

23-19 Roosevelt…. They are absolutely living at the line…. 13 of 13. Riordan is still waiting to take a FT.

Trying to figure that one out…. Riordan only has seven fouls, and Roosevelt has taken 13 FT’s.

Kinda surprising when Riordan should have the size advantage

Burries at the buzzer…. Has 27 at the half.

44-33 roosevelt…. Good news for Riordan is that they got off the hack train. Roosevelt shot no FT’s that quarter.

Roosevelt played very well good chess at the end of the half. Riordan scored and their coach took a timeout with 2:20 left in the half cause he knows every possession matters. Very smart move. The game itself is great to watch. And the Burries kid is unreal.

At what point will Riordan coaching staff start making someone other Burries beat them! Giving him way too much space. What happened to that commitment to defense?
Honestly as critical as I can be what can they do. He gets to the line with ease. Watch his body language going to the hoop. He works his way to the line. Honestly that’s tough to coach and beat.

80-60 final.

Burries is a one-and-done.

In other news, water is wet.

Goodnight now!

Burris reminds me of Cade Cunningham - he's so freaking smooth. Roosevelt came into this game battle tested against the best SoCal had offer while Riordan wasn't. I might have triple teamed Burris at some point and make someone else beat me though. NorCal Open champions ain't a bad season all in all...

You can’t triple him. His coach places him on the floor to score and dominate. He is unreal. He literally knows how to drive and draw fouls like a pro

The whole Riordan season they must have had like 1,000 dunks. NOT ONE today vs the better team. Burries with the 40 burger on probably the best defensive team we have in Nor Cal. Every year the Open and D1 games, the So Cal team, bigger, faster. Riordan was our bigger and faster and it was a 20 point difference. Riordan has nothing to be ashamed of. They put together a real exciting season and just came up short this year.

Funny thing happened while I was heading to my car in the 10th and L (I think) garage...

On the way, a fire truck came by sirens and lights going, toward the arena past me.

Got to the garage, was getting into the elevator, and just to be funny, I asked a guy going up with me... "Did you see the fire truck?"

He said, "Yeah, I wonder what happened..."

I said, "I think they went to the arena to hose Burries off and cool him down."

Amazingly, the guy said, "Yeah, he's my cousin! He wasn't slowing down for anyone!"

What a chance meeting...

great season by riordan... but that defense everyone talked about.. it hits different on a nba court.. those passing lanes are now much harder to cover. riordan dominated who they should have and left no doubt..
this was my first time seeing them, and honestly i thought the team make up would be different. i swear they were all africans.. but they got a few other boxes checked

Amazingly poor preparation by Riordan coaching for Burries who buried them...memorable 2 days of hoops
As critical as I have been of Riordan in the past for not getting over the state title hump, I have to disagree. The kid is obviously well coached. He was like a pro driving into the lane and knowing how to draw contact. That’s hard to coach against and plan for. The kid is a one and done pro.

At the same time I would have liked to see Riordan throw some zones at them to see what it would do. In the 2002 state title game if I recall Riordan threw a 1-3-1 zone if I recall and it helped massively. Centennial had 2 future pros, two other D1 players and an Oregon lineman who John Tofi did a hell of a job against. So maybe experimenting a tad might help.

And maybe like Forslund did one year, he let Gilbert Arenas light his team up as he told them we are not going to stop him from scoring. But if we can stop everyone else we can win and they did. I don’t think Burries can be stopped. Best state title performance I have seen since Klay Thompson dropped 37 and left many confused on why he was going to Washington State of all places.

You said it There it is...my point...1 game left in season for it all need to flip strategy ..no defensive afjustments

Your take respected
I remember in 2002 Forslund said look fellas we have to throw the entire kitchen sink at them. After experiencing 2001 and losing state, he walked away with experience of knowing you got to throw it all out.

And the players knew it as well. Katley leg was rolled over and Rich was going to take him out. Happened right in front of the bench. Kately said I am not coming out I am going to win this. He had the ball out on the wing and blew by his defender and scored. Kately was such a wonder to watch. He was pro material as a high school player. Unreal drive to elbow and pull up. Literally jumped out the gym. He won play of the week multiple times with monster dunks.

Anyways good news is the future is bright at Riordan as it is evident they will always get the kids and Coach Curtin which I don’t know how many guys can say this has lost state as a player and now Coach. It’s a good experience that I believe Curtin will up his desire and passion and I hope Rirodan loads up and try’s to play in a HoopHall level tournament. Cause if they continue to bring in the horses, the league games will not be competitive at all. And as we know neither will CCS. Got to find a national loaded tournament and find a way to play a game or two against highly nationally ranked teams during league. And even if you take a few L’s it gives the kids an idea about what level they need to focus on at practice. I was shocked to see 0 dunks yesterday.

Well aware of Klay's record setting 3pt fest against Sac High...do to knowing a team member on Sac High I literally asked a Sac High Coach prior what's the plan for Mychal Thompson's son...response was from my perspective "he is no threat"
Minimal game film on opponent....it turned out Thompson was a huge threat

Defensive practice approach minimized Klay's impact leading up to game
