With two high schools with red hot offense' to work with, it sure looks like some high scoring football games are coming our way.....We are talking about Antioch and Pittsburg, but Freedom could be in the same picture, but for the last couple of years, Freedom has been lacking that certain chemistry to give them the edge. Ronnie Rivers is back for his third year who ran for 1585 yards and 23 TD's, not the biggest guy in town, but it doesn't make any difference. To support Rivers running game is new QB Dominic Mather and Jonathan Pierce, plus running backs Kyle Harmon, Kevin Lonergan....To boost the passing attack, there are recievers Baylei Coston and Jaelyn Thomas and these two guys can fly.On top of these guys is a JV team that went 8-2, so the tools are there, is a question of making them work.....Freedom opens the season against Turlock at home on 8-26.
BUT.....what about Antioch, it looks like they are the team to beat and to support this case is running back Najee Harris, a one man gang with blazing speed, and he is joined by Omari Harris and Dalaan Green...QB for this season is Will Karnthong and the go-to guys are Isaac Freytes and Gaudie Campbell, so the Panthers have a one-two attack on the ground and thru the air.
And what about the O and the D, there is Justin Kenward, sir Forbes, Neal Sahota,Kyle Brown, Isaia Dunn, Antione Tanner, Cameron Nathan, Omari Harris who can go both ways and Koby Williams...This all sounds like a killing machine, but Antioch faces Lincoln of Stockton in a home game on 8-26 and a road trip to Miliptas on 9-2 and then San Leandro, Rancho Cotate and then DLS for the preseason games. The one with the most interest is against DLS...what is going to take place.
But then there is Pittsburg who is loaded with running backs that are speed demons that will back up Montaz Thompson who gained 1760 yards in 2015. The pirates have three QB's to work with and all three should see action in the Jamboree this coming Friday night.plus a fleet of recievers who are also fleet footed and a well stocked O and D. Plus a JV team that comes into play with a 7-3 record.
One hates to say it will be a two or thee team race for the BVAL, but strainge things will happen. Now the Pirates also have a tough preseason, starting off on 8-26 with a home game against Serra.
Heritage enters the season led by QB Nick Zell whopassed for 1680 yards and 16 Td's and ran for another 400 yards and four TD's, he has a supporting cast of Jett Stanley,Max Peterson, Adam Morse, Austin LaMunyon, Marcis Bustos, Jaime Luna,Ryan sanchez and Aidan Quinn.....The Patriots open the season against Tokay of Lodi . Coming up from the JV's is a 5-5 team to boost the varsity...
Liberty starts the season with QB Ryan Dutt or maybe Matt Marchetti and is backed up by Ohmstede Field, Ryan Vanderwerf, Zane Hinjose and Anthony Gripe, to top it off, the Lions' also have a JV team that went 9-1 that played tough defense, so these guys will be a big part of the Liberty O and D.
Liberty starts the preseason with a home game against Vacaville on 8-26
The team that makes you wonder is Deer Valley, after their great season two years ago, they have not been able to recover, but the 2016 season has possibilities....The Wolverines have 2nd year coach Robert Hubbard who is putting together a squad made up eight returning members...Names that are popping up are Jamarr Hardy, Ronald Areston,Daniel Lado, Osey Oigemhonian, Kyle Thomas, QB Dior Walker, Dyan Rakchhat, Gianni Purnell, Devaughn Brown and Kelvin Daniels..DV looks to have a lot of speed and size...
On 8-19, Deer Valley has a scrimmage with Castlemont at 7 P.M., followed by the real test against Monte Vista in a away game on 8-26.. Monte Vista with Jake Haener at the throttle will promise a serious air raid.
How does the finish look for the BVAL
Antioch or Pittsburg....when they meet, who scores last wins, plus a league flag both teams have the speed and the guns...
Freedom
Heritage,Liberty or Deer Valley...its a toss up between the three as this looks like a any thing can happen between these three....
