Call me old Fashioned

I like certain aspects of CE placement, but using CalPreps ratings is no more consistent than using enrollment criteria. I think the Open division placements is what needs correcting. For instance, I think maybe all schools less than D2 enrollment should be given the option at beginning of season of opting into the Open or not.

Simple… 5 divisions. Top 10 from NorCal and So cal playoff divisions champs plus Open

So for example a D7 winner may not make it to a regional game. If you win section congrats great season but you are not one of the best 15 teams in state
Yep - that's a throw back to the now old CIF system. The problem expressed at that time was that too many worthy sectional champions had to sit home while other systematically chosen champions got to head to a "state championship."

I guess you argument is that the old system wasn't focused on the top 15 teams in the state. Of course only 2 or 3 of 15 best teams in the state will be sectional champs. So you still are not getting that top cut.

A true playoff system is our only alternative answer to our current CIF bowl system.

Still so funny how NCS people desperately hold on to old notions and completely ignore obvious and verifiable data that shows how completely wrong they are.

There is verifiable data that shows 3 teams from the same league in the NCS open division, one of whom was 3rd place in league, playing the number one team in Norcal. Really great stuff. I’m glad you have decided to defend this system with all your blogging might. That is what is so funny.

Do you proofread what you write? Maybe have someone read it for you before you post to make sure it makes any sense.

You're definitely old fashioned.
Here’s an example why the current system is flawed

Ebal MTN standings

1. De la Salle
2. San Ramon Valley
3. California
4. Amador
5. Monte Vista

Amador is in a state Championship game because they dropped divisions cause Cal and SRV beat them. If Amador would’ve beat Cal or SRV in the regular season, they wouldnt be in a state championship game.

Cal 14…you cool with that? No disrespect to Amador, cause their team looks great. But if I’m Cal or SRV, I’m scratching my head

Do you understand the purpose of divisions?

To the divisions talk…. I think the way they should do it re-organize leagues so that there are D1 leagues, D2 leagues, and so on, all the way to D7. League winners are obviously in, most likely with first-round byes and home games. 2nd place teams get in, but travel, etc.

Since leagues are all one division, everyone knows their playoff target BEFORE the season starts. No need for selection committees, except maybe to determine and seed Open.

This is roughly what was going on when I moved to Oregon, but it was better when they had just four divisions among their 500 or so schools. One big difference was no Open division, not needed.

It became more diluted when they went to six divisions…. Just not enough schools per division. But I think ya get my drift…

On another original point, the no-cash pay-thru-app is a FANTASTIC change, at least once the glitches at start were figured out….

No lines, show up, show ticket on phone, roll on past into the bleachers. what could be better?

I just wish all schools would put up their ticket links in a timely manner…. But that’s on them, not the system.

Sections have already tried this and decided to move on. You end up with perennial powers and programs that could never develop to those levels. In many cases, entire leagues would be moved up because of one team. In doing so, the rest of the league completely suffers.

To make matters worse, players start transferring from the weaker schools to the better ones.

Really, we need to study and learn from history.
