Cameron Skattebo thrives on national stage

I’ve been telling people since 2018 that the kid is legit.
I was shocked when he didn’t garner more recruiting attention, especially after a head turning, dominant Junior season at Rio Linda, then was ecstatic that Sac State was able to land him.
I was bummed when Taylor left for Stanford, which also caused Skat to want to leave. But am again ecstatic (in hindsight) that he found the right landing spot at ASU and for a head coach that knew how to leverage Cam’s extremely versatile skill set.
Aside from his rushing and receiving talent, Cam has taken snaps at QB and even punted on numerous occasions. The kid is the literal walking definition of a “football player”.
Like everyone else (wrt player evaluations), I’m often wrong but I did successfully predict Elijah Dotson as a kid capable of playing on Sunday’s (he made it for a short spell) and I predicted the same thing about Cam not long into his tenure at Sac State. And since that time he’s only strengthened that belief via his continued impressive play at ASU.
I think yesterday’s performance against a very talented Texas defense might have increased his stock to a point that he’ll be a day 2 draft selection. Jeanty will likely go in round one, and Cam could go in round 3, maybe even late round 2 if his combine measurables go really well.
Whomever lands him is getting a gem of a football player.

The kid is flat out fun to watch play. Reminded me of CMC in many ways.
In a recent interview with Dan Patrick, Cam cited the Christian McCaffrey comparison since he became the first player since Christian to rush for over 1500 yards and accumulate over 500 receiving yards in the same season.
Cam then cited Marshawn Lynch, Mark Ingram, and Le'Veon Bell as influences in which he tries to implement pieces of their game into his own.
In the past I've compared him to a more elusive, mobile, yet mini version of Mike Alstott. But I also see shades of Christian McCaffrey wrt his versatility and football IQ.
Yes, Christian is a freakish player that nobody truly compares to in terms of pure ability, but Cam just might be a lesser version of him which is still pretty damned good. A lesser but more physical version.

Cam is another in a long line of great HS players to come out of NorCal and why I love HS ball so much to this day. When you see some of these guys play locally for a few years then see them star at the next level and even the next level after that for a few of them — it really makes you smile.
From Troy Taylor to Aaron Garcia to Jason Fisk and Tony Cline to Randy Fasani to Donte Stallworth, Onterrio Smith, Lance Briggs and DJ Williams, to Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers to Syd’Quan and Shaq Thompson to Devontae Booker to Devante Adams to Jared Goff, etc, etc, etc. The list is seemingly endless.
Circling back to Cam Skattebo, I first saw him play in person at Whitney HS for the Section title against Casa Roble during his junior year. The kid scored 7 TD’s in the game and made it look way too easy. While you can never know for sure, I left that game speechless believing that this kid could one day be doing what he’s doing now. And that is being talked about and revered by the Natl’ media after a stellar performance against a top 4 team.
Again, that’s one of the reasons I love HS ball so damned much.
