Four CCS public school programs are still alive in the CIF NorCal playoffs: M-A in D3, HMB and Mills in D4 and Summit Shasta in D5. All are located in San Mateo County. The first three represent the PAL Bay (A) Division. Summit Shasta is a No.1 seed. HMB is a No.2 seed. Those two appear to have the best shots at playing for a NorCal title. No CCS public has won a NorCal crown in 33 years (Monta Vista won in D1, then lost in the CIF finale). The top 2025 CCS public, Los Gatos, played in D2 and flamed out badly in Round One Tuesday. There had been relatively high hopes for them. It was not to be.

Summit Shasta lost as well. The Moon is the last chance for the CCS publics. We are heading for The Church of Eternal Hoops Hope for another novena.
Colhenry: you can also root for SJS's McClatchy and Rio Linda. They are public schools and I believe the only girls public schools left in the SJS still alive in the NorCals after tonight.

Mills and M-A both go down. HMB wins.
It was so there for #5 Mills to take at home against the #13 Gators. Down 12, Mills trimmed the deficit to 41-39 with five minutes to play. Then both teams went scoreless for an eternity. Casty's final three points (its only points of the fourth quarter) were all banked in free throws as time was running down. But they were enough.

There's a difference. CCS girls are utterly dominated by two very strong private/parochial leagues, the WBAL and the WCAL. No other NorCal section has such a situation For all practical purposes, the CCS publics are lucky to get the private/parochial leftovers when all is said and done. It's an annual imbalance that has become both stark and depressing. Maybe the CIF's equity-based playoff system will eventually help.

Agree. It was brutal.

Dang..never would have thought that Mr Henry would get me intrigued enough to be paying attention to D4! HMB 2v RL 3 and 9v13 on the other side? Is this the true norcal title game? Soooo close....not ever gonna have a better chance than this!

Lets go HMB!
