La Lumiere beat Number one Montverde last night at the boys Iolani..Sierra Canyon a California CIF school should be playing them tonight for the championship....
But the CIF has a rule CIF teams cannot play schools that are not in a federation....
My translation...We are not going to let you play these teams that don't follow principles
and some guidelines...
AKA maybe like these "schools" that are not "real schools"

The rule does have some holes in it, as the definition of "affiliated" varies from state to state. There are some states with several federations, if you will, but if they are under one big umbrella, then it might be OK. Or not, depending on the judgment of the state the school they're playing is from.

In general, though, it's a way to separate the prep and reclassify schools from the "regular" high schools that don't allow 19-year-olds to play and don't take juniors and make them sophomores to extend their athletic careers.

So Clay you are saying that high school students should not be able to apply for red shirt seasons. ;)

Unless they do it in middle school, which happens -- especially in football. Boys who haven't grown yet are held back and repeat seventh or eighth grade so that they can enter high school one year older than everyone else.

At some schools, they wouldn’t be older by being held back, but entering at the same age as a lot of their teammates.
