Cougars Basketball is On The Air!

Tonight, the 12-0 Campolindo Cougars face the Bellarmine Bells (imaginitive nickname, that) who bring in an 8-4 record.

Hard to figure how good the Bells are…. They lost two close ones to the powerful Mitty Monarchs, but got abused HARD by Dublin. Injuries? Illness?? Who knows…. Neither Maxpreps nor the Bells’ own athletics website shed any light.

Cougs start with the Bennett brothers, Emmanuel Callas, Shane O’Reilly and Matt Radell, pretty much the standard starters with Mahaney and Robeson out.

Announcer just stated the Cougs are rated #5 in CA by MaxPreps.

Callas opens the scoring by going end to end and a reverse layup…. 2-0 Cougs.

Cade Bennett with a foul, Bells sink a pair. 2-2.

Zach Turner nails a corner 3 for Bells…. 5-2 Bells.

Cade drive, layup rolls just off…. Bells board, but they turn it over.

Callas loses the handle, fouls…. Bells ball.

a pair of turnovers, one each…. Max Weaver gets a loose ball underneath, fouled, 2 FT’s both go. He’s in early cuz Callas has 2 fouls.

Despy of the Bells nails a 3…. Cade drives and scores…. 8-6, but Bells with a nice pass and layup… 10-6.

Radell with a nice up-and-under pivot move for 2…. and fouled. FT goes… 10-9.

Despy scores on a pullup for Bells… 12-9.

Sweet move by Radell…. 12-11 Bells.

Cades drives and hits a floater! 13-12 Cougs.

1:22 left in the 1st. Cade forces a Bells turnover.

Fabulous Radell pass to Weaver for an easy 2… 15-12.

Bells score on a putback. 15-14. Wevaer passes it to Radell this time for a score…. 17-14. And…. that’s the quarter. Heck of a game thus far!

Don’t see the Bells’ 6-10 Kiachian. Cougars driving at will.

Cade hits a J, but offensive foul. Announcers and coach complain, but it looked like a good call from here…. Bells cough it right back up…. Callas, back in the game, gets tied up… Bells possesssion. Cougs get a stop… Max Weaver drives the length of the floor, drives, is fouled. makes 1 of 2. 18-14.

Wolf Bloom of Bells drives, is fouled by Weaver. FT missed.

Callas takes it strong to the hoop… miss, but hacked. FT’s both missed, but Radell is the MAN tonight, offensive board for 20-16. (I must have missed.a Bells scoree somewhere).

Cade drives and scores, but the Bells come right back with a score…. 22-18.

Chase Bennnet gets an open 3 chance…. BAM! 25-18

O’Reilly with a 3…. BAM!! 28-18, Bells time out.

Cade fouls, has to sit…. Callas gets the defensive board…. goes the length of the floor with a twisting layup and scores! Bells hit a short J. 30-20. Radell grabs a loose ball and scores! 32-20.

Rodericks scores for the Bells. 32-22. GREAT pass, Callas to Radell for 2… 34-22.

Cougs get a stop, Callas drives, is fouled. FT’s split. 35-22.

Bells Wolf Bloom hits a 3…. Cougs turn it over, Bells ball. 35-25.

Despy fouled by O’Reilly on a driving shot…. FT’s both go. 35-27.

Radell gets the ball inside, gets it knocked away, but dives, hits ball to O’Reilly and he scores! Bells answer back…. Halftime score, 37-29.

It’s been one heck of a battle!

Guess who? Radell rebounds a miss…. Cade Bennett for 3!! 40-29.

Zacj Turner with a nice drive on Cade Bennet, gets the hoop and the harm Cade’s 3rd. 40-32.

Smallest guy on the floor, Chase Bennett grabs an offensive board and calls time just before falling over the baseline…. COACH’S KID! Cade with a nice pass to Callas for 2. 42-32.

Shane O’Reilly with a great offensive board off a Callas miss, puts it back in…. 44-34 after the Bells answer (Hey, great name for a song!). Bells hanging in, get a stop and hit a 3…. 44-37.

Cade splits a triple team, drives and scores…. 46-37.

STEAL by Callas and a drive and a dunk!! 48-37. And the Cougs get another stop…. Pass to Callas who scores…. 50-37.

Bells try a 3, Cougs rebound, and fouled. Cougs ball, time out. 2:49 left in the 3rd.

Bells get a stop, but it looks like a Bell hurt his ankle.

Bells try another 3, no go, out of bounds.

Radell tries a rare outside shot, nope…

But the Cougs get yet another stop…. It looks like the Bells are playing 6 Cougars at times…. A trade of buckets…. Now Turner scores for the Bells…. 52-41, Cougs looking for last shot of the quarter.

Cade takes a wild jumper… the bank is open! 54-41 and the buzzer sounds.

Pass down low to Callas, easy score…. 56-41. Bells answer with a spin move…. but Callas scores again! 58-43.

Pearson scores for the Bells. 58-45.

Cade Bennett with a drive and score! And he’s fouled! 61-45 after the FT.

6:15 left, Bells call time.

Yasakochi drves, passes to Weaver for a score. Despy scores for the Bells… but Weaver drives and score…. 65-47.

Yasakochi hits a J…. Cougs are pouring it on! 67-47.

Despy nails a 3 for the Bells…. 67-50.

Radell steps in and takes a charge!

Now… Chase Bennet takes a charge!

And then he hits a 3! 70-50. And then he gets a defensive board…

Finally the Bells score… 70-52.

Callas rebounds a miss and dribbles it out…. Cougs win 70-52. Much better game than that score indicates.
