Ethan Kassel is reporting that WCAL athletic directors will meet Monday to determine if/how their winter schedules should be adjusted to account for the persistent virus.
I doubt the intent is to create forfeits so much as thresholds and protocols for when games need to be postponed/cancelled (ie number of players on a team out, what if it’s elsewhere in a program etc). Anecdotally so far schools have handled differently. If a team catches covid and its a league game, it should be re-scheduled. This forfeit crap is unfair, because there is no way to tell how someone gets it or not. With this omricon variant, you can't get tested. It's nearly impossible, people are flooding the testing stations. Its a mess right now.
I pray everyone stays healthy....and personally I would like to see the mask rule enforced a lot more than I have seen it thus far. Ive seen everything from techs being handed out for not properly wearing a mask, to teams just flat out not wearing masks at all. Make a rule and stick to it!
Geary - what you’re implying is that anyone vaxxed will likely not die & if not vaxxed “by grace of God nothing serious happens to you” ?? What about long term effects of the illness? At this point in time, its just time to let sports just play as is. People that are 2 shot and 3 shot boosted have significant protection from serious illness and hospitalization. Vaccinations were never about preventing contracting COVID. At some point, we all are going to get it and if your vaxxed, you likely will not die. If you are not vaxxed, by the grace of God, hopefully nothing serious happens to you. Really its time to just let nature run its course move on. Get boosted and play on.
but a lot more tots and teens are getting it. and then you know who they live with?At the risk of coming off as a know-nothing moron, here's a data tidbit from the latest San Mateo County Health Department covid dashboard: Over the nearly two years of the pandemic, the county has registered 636 covid-caused deaths, none of them below the age of 20 and only one below the age of 30. So, no matter how you care to slice the numbers, the virus, mutated or not, is not killing Peninsula tots or teens.
Im saying its not going to go away because the world cannot collectively work together to beat it. So this boils down to who's doing whats necessary to be protected (vaccinated) and who's playing the I'll take my chances (unvaccinated). I liken it to smoking cigarettes. You know its bad for you, but if you still do it then you have no one to blame but yourself. Roughly 2/3rds the population is protected while the remaining 1/3 want to play the risk game. So let them play with their lives. Cant make them do what they dont want to do. Just time to start worrying about the people that did everything asked and let them get on with it. Just my own opinion and no one elses. I hope for no one to get sick and die.Geary - what you’re implying is that anyone vaxxed will likely not die & if not vaxxed “by grace of God nothing serious happens to you” ?? Seriously … Covid as Dr’s & scientists have been stating for what seems forever: can be deadly for elderly, anyone obese or with breathing problems, diabetis or other immune system deficiencies - which is a LOT of people. This new variant effects children which are now hospitalized in record numbers.
As to “letting nature run its course” that is also referred to as”thinning the herd”.
Understood Geary and like your comparison to cigarette smoking or vaping - there will always be those who do what they want to do regardless. My nieces son 17 got it 2 weeks ago and was ill for 4-5 days. A week later despite masks inside the house and distancing my niece got it and was sick for about 5-6 days. Less than a week later the spouse got it [2 days ago], but so far no symptoms [fingers crossed]. So for last 2 weeks the grandparents [one is immune compromised] who live close by have been unable to visit daughter and 3 sons'. They usually have nearly daily contact with daughter & grandsons', but will still not see them for another 2 weeks+. As ankleassassin said the young ones bring it home to who they live with, unfortunately the more young ones that get it the more parents/grandparents will likely share in it [ie: domino effect].Im saying its not going to go away because the world cannot collectively work together to beat it.
