Del Oro gets rewarded with a 300mile drive south. Thank you CIF!

Ok, belly aching done...

I know little about Liberty so have some research to do. Anyone have 411 on Liberty i.e. speed, size, offensive and defensive schemes?

I guess they figure Del Oro travels well and the fanatic eagle fans will make the trek.

I think CIF missed by scheduling this for Friday...300 mile road trip for a Friday game definitely sucks for Del Oro and fans.

How does Ridgeview HS, (Bakersfield ) play for the south and Liberty HS, (Bakersfield) play for the north? Aren't they both from the CCS?

OK here are some quick numbers:

Liberty SOS = 35.45
Del Oro SOS = 46.36

Liberty Receiving total = 1678
Del Oro Receiving total = 2329

Liberty rushing total = 2740
Del Oro rushing total = 2263

Liberty TD totals: 49 total
Del Oro TD totals: 45 total

Liberty field goals: 6 made on 9 attempts
Del Oro field goals: 14 made on 19 attempts

Del Oro with the more balanced offense. Looks like liberty is more of a ball control team with more ground yardage. Initial impression is, "on paper", unless Liberty has a lot of speed this looks to be a good matchup. Will look at some film to get a feel for Liberty's team speed.

I haven't seen Liberty at all. I did see Bullard play at Grant Union this year -- who gave them a tough game -- and Liberty rolled them by 34 in the Semifinals.

They also had a descent showing against 14-0 Mission Viejo, losing by 13.

On paper, I'm thinking DO will have a tough time with the Patriots especially given the travel.

Thanks TR for the 411. I've not done much research yet and I have to agree with your point on the Liberty/Bullard/Grant link. DO looks to have their hands full and travel does not help.

Liberty will be a handful, somebody said the chip on the Golden Eagles' shoulder is a boulder and I think it's still there. They are peaking at the right time for sure, on the shoulders of QB Stone Smartt and great coaching, Casey and staff are probably all over film by now. Evidently the Liberty Patriot's have a solid QB committed to CO State, and v good LB headed to UCLA. Forecast is showers Thu/Gameday, and it looks like maybe a grass field, if it is grass pack the long cleats for the spotbilts ha ha.

Smashmouth, would love to take a peak at Liberty on film (or is it now tape, haha?).....where did you find some?

I just took a quick look at the Liberty videos posted on MaxPreps and the one ThunderRam copied above. I will, when I get some time, goto NFHS and check out some videos there as per ThunderRam's suggestion.

Coach T and DO have been in these big games many times (and traveled too). That has to be an advantage.

Then there is the psychological factor. DO players have played great teams all year (from different sections and states)- they should be confident they have competed against teams as good and better than Liberty

Since Del Oro is going south to play Liberty I want to see the socal chatter on this game.

Which socal preps web site do you all go to to keep our socal friends honest?

I went to the following site but saw no threads on Liberty/Del Oro:
http://southerncaliforniapreps.forums.rivals.com/forums/football.12/

Either I'm not at the right site or socal does not "claim" Liberty:). I believe Liberty alternates each year playing in the socal vs norcal playoffs.

Your not going to find any chatter on the SoCal boards for Central Section teams. They really don't even put up with San Diego Section talk.

Even when Clovis West, Bullard, Bakersfield, Liberty, etc. were considered part of the SoCal bracket, they were treated like red-headed step children over there.

You're probably better off trying to find a Central Section board of some kind or perhaps a message board via one of the Fresno/Bakersfield newspapers.

Isn't this the first year that CS teams are playing in NorCal playoffs?

Isn't this the first year that CS teams are playing in NorCal playoffs? And I believe it was to try to balance the number of teams so that they could get the same number from NorCal and SoCal to square off, which is why some of the smaller schools remain in SoCal playoffs.

To even out the brackets CIF placed CS D1, D3 and D5 in the north and D2 and 4 in the south for the new format.

Thanks TR. I've searched for any media that referenced Liberty and the only thing I could really come up with was "The Bakersfield Californian". Seems Liberty is a best kept secret. Oh well I guess I'll go to NFHS as you suggested earlier and not waste time seeking Liberty fan opinions.

Krys Barnes is the standout for Liberty. No. 144 in the country by Rivals and committed to UCLA as a linebacker.

Just made it down here to Bakersfield. Having a pre-game burger and beer and see other DO fans at the pub!

Liberty fans pretty confident of a win with multiple D1 players on their team. Never count the underdog DO out.

I believe this game will be close and hope to make the drive back north with a win. Good luck to both teams!

Liberty has a really athletic and strong armed QB. Seems to throw deep well. They look pretty good on film. Should be a challenge.

Yes seen some film of Liberty. Their QB runs the read-option very well. Reminds me of the Bakersfield Drillers QB that DO played in 2013 D1 SBG. They have good lines on both sides of the ball. DO better have a game plan for dealing with a stout D line.

You better come back with a DUB-YA.
