Nailed it, IMO.It is rare for a school to move on from a coach that has been relatively successful. Del Oro has dropped off from the Taylor days, but I thought Maben did a solid job there.
Could be a tough haul next year too with Pinnick moving on
You have no clue what you are talking about, and are clearly just trolling. Josh Parry is as good as they come. He was on the defensive staff at DO under Casey Taylor. He was the defensive coordinator under Jeff Walters and lead the team to a state bowl game. He has been very good as the offensive coordinator the last few years under Maben. He played linebacker at San Jose State, played fullback for the Philadelphia Eagles under Andy Reid and played in the Super Bowl for the Seahawks. He knows more football than most HS coaches ever dream to know. He is a tremendous leader of men and his players will run through a brick wall for him. If DO does take a step back, it will not be because of coaching or lack of stability in the program.Look for DO to take a significant step back in the coming years. Whitney will probably overtake them in the SFL now that they have better coaching and stability in the program.

So you’re already in “blame the kids” mode then? You have no clue what you are talking about, and are clearly just trolling. Josh Parry is as good as they come. This was the logical conclusion when Del Oro made the change. Still don't like changing HS coaches like this, but Parry is well acccomplished and respected.Last year's OC and past DC of DO, Josh Parry, was announced as the new HC today.
so what will it be?You have no clue what you are talking about, and are clearly just trolling. Josh Parry is as good as they come. He was on the defensive staff at DO under Casey Taylor. So you’re already in “blame the kids”
I am not saying they will take a step back, but everyone knows it’s more about the Jimmy’s & Joe’s than X’s and O’s.so what will it be?
So you're blaming the kids already like I said?I am not saying they will take a step back, but everyone knows it’s more about the Jimmy’s & Joe’s than X’s and O’s.
i agree with that for sure.I am not saying they will take a step back, but everyone knows it’s more about the Jimmy’s & Joe’s than X’s and O’s.
It's the truth. Maben did a solid job with what they have athletically. They are not physically better than the teams they lost to. Some coaches get a pass when they get out classed (in terms of overall athletic ability.)i agree with that for sure.
FFA isn't as popular is it was in the past. As a program that attracted future farmers with uncanny football skills......The Jimmy and Joes aren't transferring to DO like in the past.......
Or one Casey Taylor left the program.FFA isn't as popular is it was in the past. As a program that attracted future farmers with uncanny football skills......
That's one reason he left. That pipeline was getting shut down and he knew competing without it wasn't happening. At least not for long. Walters retained a solid group and had a great season then fell off. Mike inherited the real aftermath and managed it well. Somehow the same administrators who decided the questionable transfers didn't fit their "academic integrity" model are the same people who booted Maben for not being able to compete at the level which requires transfers. Go figure. This is why people are getting out of this profession. The expectations and the compensation are world's apart.Or one Casey Taylor left the program.
If it was the 2024 season and they were sitting at 0-5, you'd have an argument. However, we are a long ways from August/the beginning of the season. Where is the venom coming from?So you're blaming the kids already like I said?
No venom, just pointing out the hypocrisy. The facts are the facts. If it was the 2024 season and they were sitting at 0-5, you'd have an argument. However, we are a long ways from August/the beginning of the season. Where is the venom coming from?
Remember that Taylor also benefitted from a stable admin. DO is on its 3rd principal since Casey left and the long time principal retired; hence, it has been the third leader (and their vision) since the long-time principal, who was Casey's boss at DO. Different thoughts, different expectations, different visions. That's one reason he left. That pipeline was getting shut down and he knew competing without it wasn't happening. At least not for long. Your not totally off.No venom, just pointing out the hypocrisy. The facts are the facts.
Very good point. I think people don't realize that most districts are not top down in terms of athletics. From site to site the resources given and the expectations can be drastically different. Doesn't seem fair but that's how schools work.Remember that Taylor also benefitted from a stable admin. DO is on its 3rd principal since Casey left and the long time principal retired; hence, it has been the third leader (and their vision) since the long-time principal, who was Casey's boss at DO. This is a tremendous insight and hits the nail directly on the head.Your not totally off.
As I stated in a different post, blame can be spread around disproportionately depending on who the coach is and how strong his lobby is or how high up his friend group extends. I have seen some guys who's teams are stacked, and as soon as they lose, the apologists swoop in and blame (not so much the kids themselves) the disparity in talent. Serra case in point but there are others. When they win he's a genius and when they lose the other team was just better. Nice realm to operate in. Stacked deck.
Then there are other coaches who absolutely squeeze water from a rock just to eke out a few wins with minimal talent, and get ridden out of town on a rail because the people who assign blame (community, admin, etc.) either don't like the guy or grossly over estimate the available talent.
So in short, it all comes down to the evaluator. Not the reality.
I am not saying they will take a step back, but everyone knows it’s more about the Jimmy’s & Joe’s than X’s and O’s.
bob ladouceur wasnt sending bums out there. he had plenty of talent several that played in the nflBob Ladouceur's history at DLS surely disagrees with you. They sure beat a lot of Jimmy’s & Joe’s with their X’s and O’s.
There's a nice list of area coaches that built consistent winners, even dynasties, without the aid of multiple D1 athletes most years and even with undersized offensive and defensive lines.
Conversely, a lot of folks on this site took issue with the X’s and O’s Mike Alberghini employed for his Jimmy’s & Joe’s at Grant Union for many years.
It works both ways much of the time. But, sure, if things are relatively equal coaching and scheme wise, the team with the superior collection of talent is typically going to win.
Unless you have the rare bird that, in the words of the late great Bum Phillips, "can take his'n and beat your'n, and then he can turn around and take your'n and beat his'n".
It will be interesting to see how they replace Pinnick. He was such a dynamic player. One of the best I've seen around here in years in terms of raw talent and ability to change a game.D.O. had a ton of young players last year. They had a bunch of sophs and 1 or 2 frosh that played alot in the Jesuit playoff game. Freshman TE caught a big td or game winner.
Apparently it was a scheduling mistake. When they realized they were supposed to play Placer the same week they were scheduled to play St Francis they had to back out of the SF game because of the home & home contract that was signed a year ago under Maben. Not sure how a mistake like that can happen though. But you're right, Parry's brother coaches at SF and I know both really were looking forward to that matchup. Was there a reason given why DO isn’t playing @ St. Francis-Mountain View? Isn’t Parry related to a coach @ SF?
Your absolutely right. Amani Toomer, Atari Callen, Simon etc. This goes back to the spinning of the narrative. If someone really likes a HC, the story can read like the David and Goliath narrative that swirled around DLS, which was a false narrative until Mater Dei started recruiting like the Taliban. Now it is actually David vs Goliath.bob ladouceur wasnt sending bums out there. he had plenty of talent several that played in the nfl
It will be interesting to see how they replace Pinnick. He was such a dynamic player. One of the best I've seen around here in years in terms of raw talent and ability to change a game.
Agreed, he was the best player on the field the 3 times I saw him play in person last year.
I watched Del Oro last year. Fantastic skill position players but the line was lacking on both sides and got steam rolled. Personally I didn’t really like the defensive front. They went to more of a 3-3. It was hard to figure out why, not enough linemen of trying to create a mixed pressure defense against the Folsom’s of the world. Either way, I watched a D6 team overwhelm them on the lines.
CASA has a good program. Also have a D1 TE that is a major matchup problem. They didn’t face a D6 team last season, so I can only assume that you’re referring to their matchup against Casa Roble (who was D5)?
Casa’s lines were larger than the vast majority of area D1/D2 teams, so the fact that they are D5 doesn’t mean anything wrt the manner you are positioning it. The size on the Rams offensive line, specifically the left side, could have presented some challenges for even the likes of Folsom.
CR just didn’t have enough skill talent or depth to really compete with most SFL teams. They did compete quite well against DO that night, specifically during the 1st half, and with a play or two going the other way could have really made it a game near the end.
That said, Del Oro ended up winning that game 31-13 so to suggest that they were “overwhelmed” is quite the stretch. CR only rushed for 46 yards, so they surely weren’t overwhelmed on that side of the ball. Offensively the Golden Eagles produced nearly 400 total yards and scored 4 td’s, so “overwhelmed” doesn’t fit there either.
Placer rushed for a lot of yards against DO, but also surrendered over 200 yards rushing at over 9 yards a clip going the other way so that doesn’t equal “overwhelmed” on both sides of the lines either. FWIW, Placer is D4, and sometimes D3 for postseason play, and typically among the better teams at that level.
DO’s 5 losses were to divisional opponents.

Walsh goes to Socal with a damn talented team and gets boat raced. The apologists come out in force. I guess at DO there is less margin for error. Not sure.
He has reached sainthood amongst the Serra faithful. I have never heard a chirp about "underperforming" etc. Even when MD and Bosco thrash them yearly. So in my opinion he gets a pass. Where a guy like Maben or others not so much. What makes you think Walsh gets a pass?
