Great game from Eastside ... they'll be a force in D5.
But note, that if the info I got is correct, that next year, Eastside would not drop to D5, but rather to the division the committee felt matched their competitive level -- into other words, most likely D1 and at the lowest D2. The same concept will apply to Pinewood and all schools, supposedly.
The plan is that next year teams will be slotted in NorCals by the committee and not by enrollment. So Pinewood and ESCP, for example, will likely be D1 if they don't go open. Same with teams like Salesian, Miramonte, Campolindo, Lincoln, Oak Ridge. etc.
That means that the lower divisions will be much weaker, but presumably all of them will be much more competitive.
Brookside is D1 next year, I believe. A two-year sentence for getting stuck in the Open against their will.
It really is unfair. Brookside Christian was placed in the Open by a completely different group than the organization that will keep it in D1 for two years. Again, why punish teams that make the Open? It's bad enough that no respect is earned for qualifying, but to then condemn a team like Brookside -- which would be very competitive in a lower division -- to D1 makes no sense.
As for the North losing D3-D5 state games, for most of the history of the state championships, the North has dominated divisions 4 and 5, so the pendulum is merely swinging back.
Another note: Mater Dei, thanks to losing two overtime games in the Southern Section Open, will drop to D2 in the SoCal Regionals.
Which South D5 team is going to beat Brookside by 60 next year...in their state final....too much 420 this morning
I just think Que is a really good coach. I don't know about the AAU circuit so I will take your word on that but let's not forget who started the BC program and brought them their only state title.Jaymel911
Don't be mad that's Brookside moved on with Coach K !!! Pico is way better coach with less players in D1. When K was coach at Brookside he ducked ever team that and everyone that was ranked!! Pico ducks nobody and would love to see them to in the AAU circuit. The only thing Oakland Soldiers don't play in Reno or the second division in every tournament. Brookside will be strong again for years to coming until Pico moves on to NCAA as a head coach !!!!!!
Yes it will be ugly.Brookside will never be D5 ever again with competitive equity....
and I don't smoke 420....
and I'll be right with my analysis when its all said and done next year. In fact I think we could see a game at the D5 level where the south winner wins the game by something like 90-25.
We had an EXCELLENT D5 rep last yr. ESP. And that game was a battle right down to the wire. Now ESP will end up in D1 or D2. And don't forget the South is already doing comp Equity so their rep last year is the level of team that will always be there.
I'm telling you its going to be ugly.
