Folsom 28 DLS 27. FINAL!!!! STUNNER!!!!

In all honesty that should have been 28-14 Folsom. The fumble for a td was bogus, and I don’t know if berry caught the ball in the end zone. Hell of a game though.

Well, tonight demonstrated why the games actually need to be played. No matter the odds.

Even when it seemed like forever that we always felt we knew what the inevitable outcome was going to be --- invariably a day comes along to show us that we don't.

And in an ultimate ironic twist of fate -- that day came not once, but twice.

First Saint Francis of Mountain View snapped a streak just 3 months shy of 30 years.
Then nearly 3 months later Folsom accomplished the same.

With one of their teams seemingly least likely to accomplish the feat, when compared to those they've previously fielded.

Let's be truthful and real here. Both Folsom and De La Salle were levels below their typical standards. The proof is there for all to see.

De La Salle suffered 2 losses against NorCal competition after coming 3 months short of not losing for 30 years.
Folsom suffered 2 league losses after coming 13 days short of not losing for 10 years.

However both teams were still better than most. And Folsom was just a little better than De La Salle tonight. For the first time ever.

Still being truthful and real, tonight's performance wasn't good by either team. The game was sloppy, penalty-ridden, turnover-ridden, and error-prone.

Still, Folsom accomplished something I'm not sure has happened many times before, if ever. They overcame a 14-0 deficit against the Spartans. Admit it. Once the Bulldogs were down 14-0, you knew the game was over, right?

Statistically, it should have been. Except, this time, it wasn't.

There were numerous momentum swinging plays. There were numerous questionable plays and penalties.

Did Walker Lyons really catch the ball on the late fumble return? Did Zeke Berry break the plane on the 2 point conversion?

At the beginning of the game it seemed like all the calls were going against Folsom. Then after the 1st quarter it seemed like De La Salle was being called for something every other play. Then towards the end of the game the refs seemingly weren't calling anything.

A 2nd twist of ironic fate had Folsom scoring a 2 point conversion to save their season against Jesuit and then stopping a 2 point conversion to finally topple De La Salle.

A 3rd twist of fate had Folsom avenging a 40-7 loss to Rocklin and 31-10 loss to the Spartans. Those things aren't supposed to happen, right? Especially by a team that looked lethargic and lost during the month of October.

Folsom's 2021 season somewhat reminded me of Del Oro's 2015 season. That team was 3-6 through October with blow out losses to Folsom, Rocklin, and De La Salle. They were written off. Rightfully so.

But that team got on a roll and won their final 8 games, 6 in the postseason, with wins over Rocklin, Liberty-Bakersfield and Camarillo in the Section, NorCal and State games.

Folsom's 2021 team is making an even more impressive run. And they deserve a lot of credit for it.
They completely turned the tables on previously undefeated Rocklin and previously unbeatable (by NorCal standards) De La Salle to do it. And none of us saw it coming from this team.

Lastly, tonight's result shines a huge spotlight on the argument I've been making here at NCP for 12 years now. That these Regional games are necessary (at all levels) and had they been in existence all these years there likely would have been other instances when the De La Salle Spartans lost when not expected to.

Case in point: The Spartans have now participated in only 3 NorCal Regional games and just lost one.
Had they not had to play tonight's game, most would have assumed them to win the hypothetical match up. Especially since they had already beaten Folsom 31-10 during the same season.

Let's put an official end to the absence of the Regional Open game!

Circling back to Folsom and their drastic turn around, they deserve all the credit in the world for it. It was amazing and unexpected. If they win their State Bowl game next week, it will be legendary.

This is a great post!

Wait a min- What about your "thoughtful adult posts" prior to this game? Are you going to come clean with an apology, or does jealousy and envy prevent it?
Clearly your priorities are to focus/avenge the wrongs (many taken personally by yourself ) based on the number of prior posts of previous posts and your running commentaries about said posts.

Nothing says revenge like winning. And nothing speaks louder than continuous, quality wins. Folsom has done an incredible turn around mid season and now the Bulldogs are going south to rep NorCal in the State Bowl Games. GOOD LUCK TO THEM ! Make us Northerners proud.

Clearly what you need to cure what ails you is not another Bulldog win but a proctologist (sorry Streak had to say it) to lance and remove whatever causes you so much discomfort whenever you sit at your keyboards. C'mon you're better than that !

I understand your points. They are well taken. However, @larry legend33 is a local guy that lives just outside Folsom, and his comments were overboard. He's been ghost since the game.

Your post is on the money period. Games need to be played. And it is why I personally laughed at the term “resume” in 2021. But if that term is to become a norm, now it’s time for one to build a resume and one to repair it.

It is very unfortunate that DLS was considered to be playing for a pathetic state bowl game to some, and now Folsom is playing in that very game.

Fact is Folsom hit the road. And they pulled it out.

At one time I used to sit in the floor at every state basketball game. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard people say the north never had a chance. Year after year.

And year after year the north came in and pulled out some huge wins. Some that were impossible on paper. And even at times some would evaluate kids and what school they committed to, and they thought man this guy can’t be that good, he is in it going to Washington State. That kid now a adult happened to be named Klay, many may not know him.

Being entrenched in the intensity of many games, some will say some of these divisions are lame. But at the end of the day guys like Klay, Jeremy Lin, and many others didn’t end their last game playing in the highest division. But when a school plays at the highest level, it is now major pressure to stay there.

One team that did such for many years finally got knocked off the stage, and one must now stay on it else lik

De La Salle hosts one of the best preseason basketball tournaments every year. Rumor in the street is they changed the time of their second round game so they can shower and attend the football game and laugh at you.
Still laughing?

Still laughing?
I am glad I could make you laugh after you suddenly got Covid and was in the hospital for three weeks in row. You know patsy you bring some fair knowledge to the board. Today the NFL is playing. How many people would say the lions are going to beat the Vikings today. Probably very few. Saying who is gonna beat who is not a issue, it is the words you spread after your disappearing act that make you look very bad. Saying DLS would win easily, doesn’t take a rocket scientist after 6 straight wins and a first time around ass whipping to think that way. However it takes a moron to knock the bowl game that DLS fell too after the committee elected to put Serra into the big game, then come back and say well I was just mocking DLS. No fact is you didn’t think Folsom would win either and you prepared the board with things only morons would say. I have been around the hoop game since 1997, we have seen plenty of teams in D3 and D2 that would blow the socks off the D1 rep year after year, then of course came the open and some of those teams would get the snot beat out of them as well. Ironically you downplayed a division and game that you are now overly excited to see Folsom win. When all in all any football team playing now is pretty darn impressive. Huge difference between many of us and yourself. And believe me when you got covid, we laughed for weeks. Enjoy your immediate gratification comedy

So with that said what is your take on the next game. Would love to hear it. Does Cathedral Catholic have no chance since DLS smacked them? If Cathedral Catholic wins does that make DLS better than Folsom in the end since DLS smacked them both and lost by a point? I mean that is how you evaluate right. DLS lost to St Francis
, St Francis smacked Serra, Serra then barely got buy St Francis, but per your way of thinking Serra hands down deserved it. So again if Cathedral beats Folsom, does that put DLS back into the scheme of things when we all debate who is better than who, or does your agenda kick in and we will suddenly see you get Covid again

Maybe you should bring the laughing basketball team to the game for when Folsom beats Cathedral for the 3rd time for another State Title.

State title. Oh wait is this a state title game all of the sudden. I thought Folsom versus Cathedral Catholic was just another game. Damn I must have missed something

Oh and I just called the basketball team. They are a little tired from beating Serra last night and they will be at one of the most premier Northern California tournaments next week in Gridley since they take on or accept all challenges

All that laughing must have been good. They got to see one of the best wins in NorCal history while at it.

Laughing is good for the soul. Just not when we're all laughing at you and the basketball team now. :)

You are correct, it sucks to be apart of a class that has now has lost two games in 30 years. They should he ashamed, I mean you did mention a Bellarmine loss from 2015. I think they should shut the program down

As long as our kids aren't laughing at teams during the biggest wins in NorCal history, I'm good with it.

It was probably a good thing. The SFL schools are the gold standard for NorCal anyways. Good for them to be there.

So I am much more into the basketball end obviously, but serious question and no crap talk. Can you tell me between football and basketball how many state bowl games and state titles they have combined. The WCAL has 6 schools with banners in them for basketball. I would have to do some research on the football bowl side. Sacred Heart(my school), Riordan, St Francis, Mitty, Serra,

Can you provide reasons why you believe the SFL is the gold standard. I ain’t being sarcastic at all. I am trying to learn more. What makes them above and beyond the WCAL. Let’s for once have a serious conversation here. Enlighten me

I knew that would get your attention.

:)
Again provide context buddy. It didn’t get my attention. I have provided you attention all day. So now answer the question and enlighten this guy who has always considered the WCAL the second best league in this state. We have proved that in basketball. Trinity got us, but let’s talk football now smart guy.

You may have always considered the WCAL the second best league in this state, but often the SFL and EBAL (since DLS joined in 2008) are as good or even better. Basketball as well. DLS, Dublin, Dougherty Valley give the top WCAL hoops teams all they can handle.

Outside of DLS how many state appearances and banners are hanging up in the respective gyms. SH, Mitty, St Francis, and Riordan all have state titles. Serra has been in a state title game, and pretty sure SI has been as well. And we ain’t talking one shots. Riordan a few times, St Francis a few, Mitty a few, Serra once for sure. That’s pretty impressive if you think about it. Not knocking any other league. But that is one league that has been fairly competitive from top to bottom. So again football wise, how is it the SFL the gold standard and since you brought up basketball I would like to hear that as well. Not saying you used the words “gold standard”, but that was my question to the great one

Correction, you brought up basketball. You can’t just remove DLS from the league. Their titles count too. Just in this decade, Monte Vista won the D1 title in 2014 and San Ramon Valley won it again in 2015 beating the Ball brothers. DLS lost in the state Open title game to the Ball brothers the following year. I’m sure WCAL schools have won many lower division titles, but those aren’t the same. The EBAL has stacked up well with the WCAL since DLS joined in 2008-2009. Dublin & Dougherty Valley joined the EBAL a few years ago and they’ve only made the EBAL stronger.

Fair point but again I have always had massive respect for the San Ramons and DLS up the corridor as well as many other schools, but again it was stated “SFL”.

On that note I have until the last few years sat on the floor at many state title games since the late 90’s. When it comes to basketball I have seen way more NBA talent play below D1 and then of course they put in place the open division. It used to be back in the JKidd days that you could move up if you wanted to. But it eventually went to school size period.

Klay Thompson, James Harden, Jrue Holiday, Jeremy Lin, Aaron Gordon, Aaron Affalo, I can go on and on with big time guys who made it to the NBA and major D1 guys who never came close to playing in the D1 game or the open. So to say those divisions ain’t the same is comedy to be honest. The division really didn’t matter once the rule to move up changed.

Either way football is a tad different no doubt, but the league I grew up around has put some major results in over the years. So as stated earlier, what makes the SFL per my original question the gold standard in nor cal as stated by Patsy. It seems when it comes down to such questions, they don’t get answered.

I too have been to many of those same state championship hoops games. I’d probably recognize you if we were to meet. No doubt the WCAL is always among the top leagues year in and year out in most sports, boys and girls. But the EBAL and SFL give them some stiff competition in most years. This year, the EBAL was a step below both in football.

Thanks for once again pulling a disappearing act when asked a straight forward honest question. That is why most don’t respect your opinion at all. Oh let me guess you gad to hit the sack, big meeting tomorrow at work
Pardon my ghostissness.

I'm still slightly hammered from that W on Friday night in Concord brother. I can still hear that basketball team laughing! :)

In that case we probably know one another. I had to put my hoops passion on the back burner, one of them guys who had a baby boy in my 40’s. Hell I had to even quit golf. But I have decided to jump back on these days as I plan to get him to some games as well.

Obviously being a private school kid myself I am a private school homer. But I really wish the public’s who want to separate themselves especially in the basketball side would load up. For example I just looked at the SFL non league lineup, six teams, three private schools scheduled.

The SFL has Jesuit in the area. But dynamics have changed in the Bay Area due to financial economics. I would like to see the SJS teams in say a Riordan Crusader Classic that they have had going for many years. How about one in the Vontoure classic. How about one in the MLK day showcase that happens.

Then in a football scale sure Folsom and De La have played. But let’s see a Serra, St Francis, Bellarmine, O’Dowd, Salesian. Who ever. Now sorry if I this has happened, I am more blind to football than hoops but I followed the board for the years I was absent. Patsy just asked on one of the threads of Marin Catholic is available in week 4. If the SFL as he claimed is better than the WCAL, line it all up. I don’t follow the EBAL as much, but San Ramon played in the riordan tourney for quite a few years. Monte Vista has been tough as nails over the years as well.

In the end I am all north. I hope Folsom wins, and everyone else up north. I hope Serra try’s to represent as well as they can. What league is best we can argue for days on end. But fact is scheduling before league speaks volumes no matter the risk to the win loss column. I would like to see the SFL and WCAL interact a lot more in all sports. Especially on the hardwood since that is my passion. Take care, I will unfortunately be in Vegas this state title weekend. Hope to meet you soon. Thanks for the comments. It’s nice to engage with people who provide some context versus one liners

I agree with you. I think the SFL teams and SJS as a whole should be playing the WCAL teams on the regular. I think its beneficial to all.

Folsom is an obvious pick for the WCAL teams but I also think teams like Rocklin, Del Oro, Granite Bay, Jesuit, and Monterey Trail are also stellar choices for some cross section battles.

These are probably the two sections or set of teams that seem to never play. I think it needs to happen.
