Folsom does not deserve state championship rings

After getting pounded by DLS 2 years in a row, they used their proximity to Sacramento and crony connections to strike a back room deal that would prevent them from playing DLS in 2014.

High school sports are supposed to teach kids to work hard, become better players and believe in themselves.

The 2014 Folsom story is the exact opposite -- it's a story of cowardice, jealousy and taking the easy way out.

It's the latest example of the modern "every kid deserves a trophy" mentality.

Folsom should be ashamed.

Folsom should be ashamed.
Ok I'll bite......

1) You got proof? Put up or shut up......Conjecture won't get a conviction
2) If you want to stir up interest on these boards.............pick something interesting...or at least factual.
3) I will donate $100 to a local YMCA/Boys' Club to see you and G61 go mano a mano for 3 rounds in a Smurf Off, jumbo-inflated glove boxing match.

I am in for a Bennie too...

Greek- Absolute classic! Do people know G61 is your alter ego?
wink.r191677.gif

It is the exact opposite!

This "rule" allowed DLS to play Folsom, loaded with underclassman, and allowed them to avoid them when they were at their peak, just to ensure a state title.

Folsom is the best team in the state! Go look at the tape!

Folsom beats DLS this year 41-24!

The only people that should be ashamed are DLS people. I watched their state title game this year. They had a QB that literally could not throw the ball 10 yards. All this from a national powerhouse!?

And don't give me this, "we don't have to pass!?" C'mon, this is 2014, not 1975.

DLS should be ashamed....

Another thing that is funny is the comparison alone..

DLS is an ALL STAR team comprised of the top players around the Bay Area.

The fact that Folsom (public school) can even be mentioned on the same level as DLS is downright amazing.

The best way to describe it would be like the NFC Pro Bowlers going against the San Diego Chargers.

It really is amazing...

I also find it funny how if anyone says a negative thing about DLS, all these people will come on here and go ballistic. But, if someone mentions Folsom, everyone comes on here and tries to slam them!

Complete and total homers...

G61: are you still in high school? You seem totally out of your element when posting on this website.

Greek the jimmy who the "F" are you? You ever win anything? Every team from the Open-DIV deserve a ring. Folsom V Grant would have been a classic this year. Yes DLS is a good team, but how good would they be if they had to stay within the constraints of heir geography year in and year out? If they had adhere to a certain limited geography? Play by the public school rules? I would guess they would be a middle of the road team with the veer.....

Seriously G61; are you really in high school? I ask because you come across as very immature and with little knowledge of high school sports.

None of you folks get DLS at all. I watched a group of awkward freshman who lost 2 games their freshman year (should have been 3) transform over 3 years to become arguably the best team in the nation. Their JV team the next year lost one also. There were two transfers during that time. McGee and McKenzie. Who joined the team in their jr years. What program that 'recruits' so much from all over california would let him walk away? Same thing with Joe Montana's kids a few years ago. McGee didn't start his Jr year, but had a huge Sr year. Why is that? Conditioning? Coaching?

IMO DLS does not get the fastest most athletic kids in the region and create a super team. Those kids are usually primadonna types and would never make the cut. What DLS does get from outside of its zipcode are kids that have a true passion for the game and take it very seriously. They work harder for 4 years than any other team, including college and NFL. They also get plenty of kids from outside of their zipcode that play no sports at all, because it's just a damn good private school and some parents want a great education for their kids. Go figure.

You don't build a lasting program like this by recruiting the top talent either. You see that in the SoCal teams where they will recruit a monster team with scholarships. Win a championship or two. Piss off their paying base because paying parents don't like to see their kids bumped out mid way through their tenure, when that player could be starting on another team. That catches up to a school real fast and the program falters.

You bring up a good point about how good DLS would be if they were constrained by geography. But I don't believe it is because of the reason you may have intended...recruiting athletes. If there was a dropoff IMO it would be due to the limited amount of players who are that dedicated and passionate to this sport to put in the 4 years that it takes.

As a youth football coach myself, I can also add that the top talent in the conference I coached in went to other schools in the area. Why? Because its not easy to get into DLS. Grades, placement tests, and jr high records are all looked at. Rules are not bent to accomodate the fast kid with good hands. I would say that gives the public schools who 'have' to take him are at a bit of an advantage there.

Bottom line...DLS works harder and longer than the rest to be where they are. National Champions. And yes, it's about the man next to you and giving a perfect effort.

This conversation of DLS vs. Folsom has definitely run its course. What gets lost in the muck of it all is NorCal had two of the top teams in the country this year and both surpassed 60 points in the two biggest bowl games in the state.

You don't need to put someone else down to boost yourself up. Both of these teams are plenty strong on their own

Spartunz- "The ultimate DLS homer"

Wow, you really do drink the kool aide.

The bottom line is the DLS will always have a distinct advantage over public schools for the simple fact that they can pick and choose who they want, football related or not. Public schools do not have this luxury. Few, if any, of the kids that attend DLS actually reside near the school. With the average annual family income of about 60k a year for the City of Concord, and the cost of tuition being around 60k for 4 years at DLS, I HIGHLY doubt that many of these kids come from Concord.

On a side note...Folsom is a public school. The average family income for Folsom is about 110k a year. There is no tuition to attend Folsom. All of Folsom's kids reside within the school's boundaries. No recruiting, no public transit system, and no scholarships.

The fact that the two are so different, yet could be considered competitive with each other, is amazing in itself.

Have you been to Folsom's stadium before? If not, I encourage you to go. Blue synthetic "smurf turf." It is the nicest high school stadium I have ever seen. And it cost nothing to attend

The kool aide doesn't taste all that good....

No doubt about it. Folsom had a great year, actually a good set of years with Browning. You put Folsom in about 55 other states and you've got yourself a state champion without question. Actually make that 32 other states. After looking at the list of top 50 teams, didn't see anybody in there that Folsom beat or put a running clock on.

On a lighter note, maybe they can make a movie about Folsom and how they overcame the adversity of losing to the Nor-Cal state bully decisevly two years in a row and win it all in their final year. Hollywood can guss it up and put in a 3rd rematch between the two.

Ditto to that Streak One......
NorCal 4 wins
Sou Cal 1 win (barely)
As one poster noted on the Sou Cal Boards, NorCal SBG victories for this decade to date are 13-12. The South may have population/depth of players but the North is top heavy with talent.

Like the Punxsutawney Phil in February, following the December SBG's some newbie-neophyte-rookie, with a Division Crown comes on these Boards like they have just invented the wheel, discovered sliced white bread and proved that the world is not flat. I like to think they have a case of Kim Jong-un me against the world flu. The louder the bark the ......... .......you know the rest of that quote.

I am for one am very proud of this season and that as a whole Cal Preps football looked prettygood, North and South.

It's hilarious that people respond like they do to Greek. He has to be giggling inside getting a rise out of people. G61 is a bit of a one trick pony but stayed on point. I think those two are related.

Spartunz,
Nobody is looking for movies. Some of us with "real" jobs do not have the time to sit home and watch movies all day

All we care about is this year...and this year we are THE BEST IN THE STATE!

. I'm a big fan of Folsom actually. Lived there and Cameron Park for a year in the mid 90's and its a beautiful area. What they have done at that school with the football program is nothing short of amazing. They will lose a great deal of talent but, at this point, their system is almost a plug-in and play deal.

Heres what i don't like- They don't do a very good job at allowing their backups to play and develop in meaningful minutes. I also would have liked them to show more respect for other programs at the end of the game by staying on the ground and putting in their two's and three's. Anybody that says anything different on those two issues either didn't play or coach or just don't get the big picture. A little disappointed in a coaching staff that I consider as good as there is.

I am glad you like the area...I like it as well

I don't know what to tell you about using the backups. That is always at the discretion of the coaches. Every team does it differently. In the games that I attended this year, Folsom had the starters out in the 4th quarter the whole time with a running clock. Folsom's starters were even out of the game in some 3rd quarters.

I think people are a bit short sided, especially since many of them watched Folsom for the very first time in the state championship game. That is a very short sample size on determining they're use of backups.

The only catch is you have to live in Georgia to enjoy this stadium...

What a buzz kill!

Nice stadium though

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Apparently the top QBs in the Bay Area did not feel comfortable riding BART everyday to school

Fondling ones cocktail frank while your mommy cooks downstairs does not constitute a job. Certainly not one of the $110k variety. Fertility clinics might provide you video game money but I doubt anyone would request your donation in the hopes of bringing a healthy child into the world.

Please use correct grammar next time you post...

And I thought all of you DLS homers got a good education

61- Georgia is a beautiful area and people are much nicer. Tulsa Union Stadium is pretty impressive. I go by there when I visit Tulsa.

I like Georgia. I have spent a lot of time there. I enjoyed it, and the people. But...the humidity...ahhhhh!

You would need a stadium like that to bring me to the game in that humidity!

Who am I kidding!?

I went to a Folsom home game in September when it was over 100 degrees at 8 pm!

"got" a good education??

I don't think you should be lecturing about grammar.

There is always the poster who goes through a thousand posts just to find one thing wrong with the person who called some other person out for grammar

Most of the grammar issues are with the DLS homers...

He only had to go through this one thread. Keep it going G. I love watching these people react to your drivel. You are going to have to get a little more creative though as you are starting to repeat your material.

G61, you should place the blame where it lies, and thats with the SJS.They did not anticipate how good Folsom was going to be,and wanted the SJS to win an SBG in a big school division.DLS had been in the way the last 2 years convincingly, and they anticipated a similiar result a 3rd time around. No sense trying to just start crap just for craps sake.I get the gist of your point, but DLS has handled Folsom easily tje past 2 years.Does Folsom look improved? Absolutely! IMO they are within 1 to 2 touchdowns of DLS THIS YEAR.But they simply havent shown that they are better.I suggest Folsom now start scheduling the Mater Deis,Servites, and Bishop Gormans of the world annually in preseason.Cathedral Catholic this year is a good start. But its easy to go on a message board and make proclamations about your team being better when you know they wont play each othet sfter they`ve throttled you 2 years in a row.Pardon the misspells, damn smartphone
