The La Jolla Country Day Sweet 16 featured three of the top four NorCal teams with Mitty claiming the title. McKenna Woliczko was named tournament MVP. St. Mary’s had a 55-52 win over McClatchy in the third place game to leapfrog them at No. 3.
In other tournament news, Folsom (Dorothy Speck at Davis) and McClatchy (Christian Brothers) won a pair of the best December tournaments to solidify themselves as the best teams in greater Sacramento.
Acalanes held off St. Ignatius (56-53) at the Marin Catholic Tournament and are off to an undefeated start. Dulci Vail was the MVP of the event. They are the top ranked team in the NCS in what will be a wide open race.
While we don’t rank the Central Section, Clovis West is well known in this region, but another team to watch is Clovis. The Cougars have wins over St. Mary’s-Stockton, Priory and San Ramon Valley with a loss to Oakland Tech.
