First up, Woodland Christian takes on Rosamond.

Whichever one wins this, it’ll be their first state title.

Rosamond has been up here once, and it’s Woodland Christian’s debut at the state level.

Last time Rosamond made it to the title game was way back in 1990, and they were victims of the Menlo School dynasty.

In my little oddsmaker post from the other day, I made Rosamond a 2-point choice. They are ranked 187 in the state, Woodland comes in at 201, if I recall correctly…

Impressive for them girls from the desert!
Edwards Air Force Base is next to Rosamond. Some serious NASA action there.

12-7 Woodland after 1q.

Keziah Maldonado-Lemus has 7 for Woodland.

I’ll abbreviate THAT name from now on…

Time out, 2:59 left in the half…. 19-14 Woodland.

Lemus has 10, and now Teagan Hayes has 7 for Woodland.

Cain and Cordoza each have 4, and Perez 5 for Rosamond.

Ariel Cain is about 6 feet, has surprising quicks and hops.

First play of the game, she swatted away a 3-point try even though she was all the way in the middle of the paint when the shooter started her motion.

Woodland takes a 25-19 lead into the lockers…

A fullcourt press sprung by Woodland in the last 45 seconds paid off, a quick 4 points to close out the half.

39-35 Woodland after 3 quarters. Anyone’s game, even though Woodland has led most of the way.

Lemus scores on the break…. 44-35. She has 12. Sorbello has amassed 15 rebounds, and Woodland is dominating the glass 39-25.

5:34 left.

Cain hit a pair to get it to 44-41, a near-steal, but stepped out…. A stop, another stepout…. Still 44-41, 34.2 left, Rosamond has ball again after a stop.

Rosamond 3, misses badly…. Woodland ball. 24.5 left. Rosamond’s next foul is bonus, I’m sure that’s what they’ll do.

There’s the foul…. First FT nope, 2ndrattles home.

Long 3 by Rosamond, nope.. Foul, Hayes hots both…. Ball game! Woodland wins 47-41.

I whiffed on that pick, but that’s just fine…. One for NorCal.

I told the Carondelet players that one of the biggest things that hurts teams is the presence of the NBA three-point line on the court. Kids tend to shoot from there and it seldom goes well.

Rosamond kept firing away from behind the NBA line.

And our kids will probably do the same ...
