The long time public power suffered through an 0-24 campaign last year after qualifying for CCS Open the year before.

But the ultra young Vikings broke their losing streak in just the second game of the new season, topping Leigh 51-45.

Congrats to the girls and Coach Blunt!

O-24 last year?

Guess there was no one good enough for Mitty to steal this year.

Congrats on getting that 1st win and getting that monkey off their back early. Historical proud public program. Im rooting for them to have a good season and get back to relevancy!
Interesting that all but one of last year's Palo Alto transfers that decimated a very good team ended up at Pinewood and Woodside Priory, in addition to other transfers that landed at Pinewood and Woodside Priory. But yeah, Mitty's "stealing" players.

I don't think anyone will find it surprising that athletes want to transfer to Pinewood, but why did so many transfers land at Woodside Priory? Looking at the CIF state and CCS playoff history websites, Woodside was sitting mostly in the D5 brackets until fairly recently.

It was the NIL money

Update: Palo Alto has improved to 5-5 after an 11-pt win yesterday against league rival Mountain View (which had been 7-2). Stunningly, the freshmen-heavy Vikings look like they could be a post-season team.

We appreciate your enthusiasm for Paly. But "public school power?" Whoa. Let's step back on that. According to the CCS website, the Vikings have won three section titles since 1982. They have been runner-ups three times as well. So they have appeared in six CCS hoops finals in 42 years. They have never played for a NorCal regional championship, let alone a CIF crown. They may be a "power" in their public school league in Santa Clara County. But let's be frank: There are no true public school powers in the entire section. Relatively strong teams come and go. King City. Harbor. Los Gatos. Monta Vista. Burlingame. Terra Nova. Aptos. Homestead. Menlo-Atherton. They have all had their moments. No public program dominates annually and, most importantly, does serous damage at the NorCal level. We all know the sad record in this regard. We won't rehash it here.

It's the turnaround that has me enthused. To go from 0-24 to a 5-5 start without any recruiting is impressive.

As you regularly point out, there is no comparison between publics and privates, particularly in CCS. But among public schools, Paly was definitely a power. Their annual records prior to last year's debacle were: 20-7, 22-5, 14-6, 19-9, 23-5, 17-7, 22-4, 19-8, 22-5. Many if not most of their losses were to private schools. It's good to see the program back on track.
