yep! if the CIF had done a 4 team bracket we would be looking at it now. The best teams in every section! Big girl ball! All Nor-Cal section winners advanced to the CIF Open Division Semi-final? Is that right?
Not a bad way of doing it. Like a tournament of champions.yep! if the CIF had done a 4 team bracket we would be looking at it now. The best teams in every section! Big girl ball!
New York does it like that, and they split into into Private and Public. They don't meet until the TOC. So NYC will have separate CHSAA (Catholic) champ and a PSAL champ (public) hat both qualify for the final four. Not a bad way of doing it. Like a tournament of champions.
In this case i doubt it was an issue because OR had a 3hr drive and they weren’t bringing many fans. But agree with you in terms of gym size.A conundrum: How can Pinewood, with a gym capacity of about 250 souls, actually host a NorCal playoff game?
I’m not sure which is worse…Pinewood or BOD? Both are hugely undersized for capacity for NorCal’s and section playoffs too.A conundrum: How can Pinewood, with a gym capacity of about 250 souls, actually host a NorCal playoff game?
Still, it's tough to run the picket fence at PW under the best of circumstances.Fun atmosphere though. Felt Hoosieresque (without the magical finish)

Even tougher to prepare when you spend time on here bitching about seeding... oh well... I guess he proved his point...Must be tough to prep for Mitty in 48 hours. It's one thing to imitate their press. A lot harder to imitate their length.
Great win for Mitty. That’s the most athletic team and fundamentally sound team I’ve seen and unlike a lot of teams their trapping etc is all calculated and organized. I apologize if I came across as bitching. Was just having a conversation about the process and the history of the process. Life ain’t fair. I’ll stop posting ✊ Goodluck to your kids the rest of the way they are an unbelievably talented and respectful group of girls.Even tougher to prepare when you spend time on here bitching about seeding... oh well... Pretty snotty statement. Only purpose is to cut someone down. SRV coaches worked as hard or harder than anyone to put the girls in the best position to succeed.Even tougher to prepare when you spend time on here bitching about seeding... oh well... I guess he proved his point...

Agreed.. and have always been impressed watching their team and what they have built. So it sure did rub me the wrong way that he was advocating for a 5 team Open before the brackets even came out, knowing he coached his hardest, and his kids played their hardest (only way they know how) and they EARNED that open division placement. Its not a punishment, and people need to stop viewing it as such. And I get it, everyone wants to play on the last day and win the last game.. so save that argument.. but he has taken that program to heights never before seen. The number of schools to qualify for the open, let alone win a game in the open, is not a long list. SRV is ON that list. Hang a banner for making the open. I dont get why more schools dont do that. That banner wont say champion on it, but dammit, it represents their best overall season to date. Embrace that. Celebrate it.SRV coaches worked as hard or harder than anyone to put the girls in the best position to succeed.

Each team that qualifies for the State Open should get a special banner to hang. I've been advocating for that for yrs.Agreed.. and have always been impressed watching their team and what they have built. So sure.. I could have made a "nicer" comment or not said anything at all.. but I did. And now you know my feelings behind it were not as malicious as they might have come off. Hats off to the SRV coach and those kids. I truly respect what they have done and will continue to root for their success (especially against C-let)
That is great perspective and you make great points. No offense taken to your comment. Just to be clear again My dad is the coach and I just help him the best I can. He works his damn ASS off and my posts are not related to him whatsoever and they are my own thoughts only. But in regard to the open, I think I agree with you. The 5/6 team open was thinking about my girls best interest. They wanted to win a banner together. That was the final goal on their checklist. Sure they could have done that theoretically in open but anyone that watched our game last night knows we were completely over matched and probably lose that game 100/100 times. We struggled to get the ball over half court but you are god damn right they played like it was a 2 point game the entire time. It is one thing to have the talent, size and speed they have. It is an entirely different thing to be as organized as they are. I get it now and understand why they have a billion banners hanging from their rafters. Seeing that in person is one of the more humbling experiences I've had and certainly #1 in my short coaching career.Agreed.. and have always been impressed watching their team and what they have built. Good call. You’re right. Playing in the Open Division is a whole other level. These teams sacrifice a much easier run for a Division banner, to go for all the glory. My utmost respect to all the Open teams. Each team that qualifies for the State Open should get a special banner to hang. I've been advocating for that for yrs.
And CIF should provide such banner just like the provide awards for the champions of lower divisions. Making The OPEN should be celebrated as a “top accomplishment”. Especially for those programs that might only get there once. Each team that qualifies for the State Open should get a special banner to hang. I've been advocating for that for yrs.
