Monte Vista opened up the East Bay Athletic League with a surprising win over the top ranked Spartans in Concord. Down 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning, Monte Vista scored four in the fifth and three in the seventh to bounce back from a weekend loss to Patterson.
Junior Andrew Howard had a one out grand slam in the fifth and a two run homer in the seventh to tally six RBI.

Michael Curran and Trace Tammaro each homered for the Spartans, which have lost three in a row in a 5-0 start.
