With 7 secs left CN up by 4.

Moreau hits a 3 with .1 second left and CN up 1.

The refs put. 3 back on clock. CN inbounds the ball and the REF CALLS A FOUL ON CN AND PUTS THE MOREAU PLAYER ON THE LINE SHOOTING 2.

He makes both and Moreau wins the section championship.

CN kids/coaches/crowd devastated....

And of course the NFHS feed wasn't working at the game so no video of the bullsh*t...

From that video, looks like the CN kid is grabbing the MC kid. With .4 seconds gotta have situational game awareness (Trent Tucker rule). Ball hits the floor game is over. MC kid catches it, no way he gets a shot off in time from that distance.

Any Referees on the site?

An inbound pass like that..(even if the team is over the foul limit) is that a shooting freethrows foul? Or just change of possession foul and MC ball?
CORRECTION: if the foul is on the throw-in team, it’s a team control foul and NO FTs are awarded. Throw-in at nearest spot of foul.

Seems like a misapplication of the rules.

Questionable call for sure, but a long way from the worst call in the history of basketball. Do both teams go D2 for NorCals, or can they be moved up to D1?

The ref gave MC two FTs that weren't warranted that changed the outcome of the game after adding .4 of a second back on the clock after time expired in regulation.

Look at the thread on Gus Morris X account at the video of MC last 3 pt shot and the buzzer going off. There was no time left.

MULTIPLE mistakes by the refs. CN won the game but the refs wouldn't let them.

Somebody on CN staff shoulda got refs attention about a shooting foul or not. Horrible way to lose. Led the whole game til .4 sec left

That’s on the coaches for not telling the players to just not allow an easy catch and shoot in the key. And even that is nearly impossible with 0.4 sec. Also on the kid who grabbed the Moreau player…..that was completely unnecessary and he single handedly cost his team a Norcal title. Sucks, but that’s is the reality.

A Norcal title . Hmmmm…

Interesting how aggressive CN was on the inbounds pass - it was like THEY were DOWN 1 instead of being UP by 1!. Not a huge fan of the hail mary toss there - that would have been my last option / instruction as coach. I assume there was a timeout for the coach to confer with his team before the thrown in but maybe not.

Also horrible that the refs didn't know the proper interpretation of the rules - they were supposed to be the best of the best refs. On that note I thought the NCS Open game was reasonably well officiated - they let the kids play for the most part and didn't blow their whistles endlessly.

i dont mind it - you want the ball at the other end of the floor, not at yours where a steal and shot goes up, as unlikely as that is with .4 of a second on the clock

Loss for words, other than Video Film for teaching others. I feel bad for CN, cause this was bad.
Yes, watched film and 3 different angles. At least 4 mistakes on procedure and rules

For the sake of argument, what if, the CN coach instructed his players to foul, if worse got to worse, knowing at worst MC would get the ball out of bounds with .4 seconds (or less) out of bounds. I would like to know from someone who was at the game if the CN coach vehemently protested the shooting of free throws and if the 3 refs even got together to discuss. This is not a judgement call but misinterpretation of the rules and subject to a protest, no?

That's no argument. That's a fireable offense.

I still don't get why they are throwing the ball down the court anyway? You can set the ball down inbounds and the clock will run out when someone tries to grab it.

There is no protest rule.

Exactly. Just inbound it to your best FT shooter in case they foul, but there was less than a second left. Incredible play selection there.

They were not up by 3 where I can possibly see fouling late. But more importantly, they were in possession of the ball with the lead.

I don’t think any coach with a 1 point lead and possession of the ball and less than a second on the clock is going to tell his players, “Hey guys just by chance if you have a turnover, make sure you foul them and put them on the line. Best case they miss both free throws and we win, worst case they make both and we lose, but there is no way we can contain them for .4 seconds”

Plus...
There had to either be a timeout or stop in play before that inbounds where the coaches MUST preach game awareness.

What the hell were they discussing??
